From year-round sunshine to top-of-the-line sporting facilities and championship-winning teams, Miami is a paradise for sports fans. Recent announcements and upcoming developments spotlight Miami’s standing in the world of sports.

FORMULA 1 EXTENDS MIAMI CONTRACT

Formula 1 held its inaugural Miami racing event in 2022 at the Miami International Autodrome, which wraps around Hard Rock Stadium. The Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix has become a can’t-miss highlight of Miami’s sports calendar every May. The Miami Grand Prix recently signed a 10-year contract extension with Formula 1, securing its place on the calendar through 2041 and making it the longest-running contracted race on the schedule.

FC BARCELONA MOVES ITS AMERICAN BUSINESS OPERATIONS TO DOWNTOWN MIAMI

FC Barcelona has relocated its U.S. commercial operations headquarters from New York City to Downtown Miami. This move taps into Miami’s rising status as a U.S. soccer hub and its deep ties to Latin America. The transition was supported by a business incentive grant from the Miami Downtown Development Authority

MIAMI FREEDOM PARK SET TO OPEN IN EARLY 2026

Inter Miami CF made big waves in the soccer world when the club signed Lionel Messi in 2023. The club’s new soccer stadium will open in 2026 at Miami Freedom Park near Miami International Airport. It will be open and ready to host events related to World Cup matches at Hard Rock Stadium in summer 2026. Additional stages of Miami Freedom Park, including three hotels, multiple restaurants and entertainment spaces, will be finished by 2028.

FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP 2025™

JUNE 14 - JULY 1, 2025

The tournament debuts its new expanded format with 32 elite soccer teams from across the globe. Champions from all six confederations will compete across 12 U.S. venues to crown the ultimate global club champion. Hard Rock Stadium will host Group Stage matches on June 14, June 16, June 18, June 20, June 23 and June 25 and Round of 16 matches on June 29 and July 1.

2026 DISCOVER NHL WINTER CLASSIC

JANUARY 2, 2026

The Florida Panthers will host the New York Rangers in the Discover NHL Winter Classic at loanDepot Park in Little Havana. This historic event will be Florida’s first outdoor NHL game and the southernmost outdoor hockey matchup in league history.

2026 COLLEGE FOOTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

JANUARY 19, 2026

The national championship game returns to Hard Rock Stadium for the first time since 2021. The Capital One Orange Bowl on January 1, 2026, will also serve as a quarterfinal matchup.

2026 WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC MARCH 6-17, 2026

After making history in 2023 by hosting all three rounds of the World Baseball Classic, loanDepot Park is set to return as a key venue in 2026. It will host Pool D in the first round (March 6-11), followed by quarterfinals (March 13-14), and the semifinals and the championship game (March 15-17).

FIFA™ WORLD CUP 2026

JUNE 11 - JULY 19, 2026

The most popular sporting event in the world is coming to Miami in 2026. Hard Rock Stadium will host seven soccer matches: Group Stage games on June 15, June 21, June 24 and June 27, a Round of 32 game on July 3, a quarterfinal on July 11 and the bronze final on July 18.

NOVEMBER 6-8, 2026

NASCAR is bringing all three NASCAR national series – the Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series – back to Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2026.

This lively Downtown Miami shopping, dining and entertainment destination celebrated its grand opening this May, and it’s already turning heads. MIAMI DESIGN DISTRICT

A haven for design enthusiasts and luxury shoppers, the Miami Design District is a vibrant neighborhood brimming with art galleries, high-end

AVENTURA MALL

Aventura Mall isn’t just Florida’s largest shopping center – it’s a must-visit destination packed with excitement for the whole family, with 300+ stores, eye-catching public art and endless entertainment. Upcoming new arrivals include Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Prada, Tissot, Mejuri and Tecovas. And get ready for a delicious new chapter: Eataly is opening a stunning two-story Italian food hall at Aventura Mall in 2025. It will be its first location in Florida.

ARTS & CULTURE NEWS

INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ART, MIAMI (ICA) EXPANSION

The ICA, a cultural anchor of the Miami Design District, is set to expand by acquiring and renovating a nearby building on the same block as its current location, doubling its exhibition space.

The new part of the museum, formerly the de la Cruz Collection, is expected to open in late 2025.

THE REEFLINE UNDERWATER ARTS INSTALLATION

Art is going deep in Miami Beach. Step outside of the traditional art gallery on land and slip on your snorkel mask and fins to swim The ReefLine, an environmental sculpture park that will soon adorn the ocean floor 600 feet offshore in Miami Beach.

Whether you’re an art lover or a water enthusiast, get ready to take the plunge when The ReefLine opens in phases beginning in 2025.

HOTEL HAPPENINGS

Several new hotels are opening or reopening this year…

THE SHELBORNE BY PROPER

The Shelborne has reopened as The Shelborne by Proper after a $100 million renovation. The 251-room South Beach hotel blends restored art deco and modernist details, marking Proper Hospitality’s Florida debut with ocean-view suites and updated luxury along iconic Collins Avenue.

ANDAZ MIAMI BEACH

(FORMERLY THE CONFIDANTE MIAMI BEACH)

Hyatt’s Andaz brand has entered the Florida market with the opening of Andaz Miami Beach, a glamorous oceanfront hotel on Collins Avenue in Mid Beach. Guests can enjoy ocean views, Ondara Spa (opening in June), two serene pools and inventive cuisine from the José Andrés Group.

And several properties will temporarily close for renovations...

ROYAL PALM SOUTH BEACH

The hotel has closed for a $100 million renovation of all 393 guestrooms, with reopening expected in May 2026.

THOMPSON MIAMI BEACH

Opening in October 2025, just steps from the beach and Lincoln Road, Thompson Miami Beach will offer 147 luxe rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, tropical terraces and iconic design by Rudy Ricciotti. Guests will enjoy a rooftop pool, panoramic dining, and interiors by Gulla Jónsdóttir – blending beachside glamor with Miami’s vibrant arts and culture scene.

THE RITZ-CARLTON, KEY BISCAYNE

The hotel will be closed until mid-December 2025 for renovations. The refreshed resort will feature a new lobby, bar, restaurants, expanded spa and redesigned suites.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL, MIAMI

The Brickell Key property has closed after 25 years of iconic hospitality.

A new era will begin with the debut of a reimagined Mandarin Oriental, Miami hotel and residences, set to open in 2030.

SLS SOUTH BEACH

The Collins Avenue property has temporarily closed for renovations.

In the meantime, visitors can still enjoy its renowned dining and spa offerings.

ATTRACTIONS & MUSEUMS

History and architecture buffs will want to explore Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a romantic Italianate villa overlooking Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove.

The historic Deering Estate, in South Dade, is a preserved example of Miami in the 1920s. The grounds are spread across 444 acres along Biscayne Bay.

If art is your thing, the Wynwood Arts District is a perfect spot to explore the eye-opening world of street art. Find it at Wynwood Walls – an outdoor museum dedicated to the artform –and throughout this hip neighborhood.

Or, pay a visit to the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) to peruse its collection of contemporary art of the Americas, housed in a stunning building overlooking Biscayne Bay in Downtown Miami. Right next door, you can see amazing sights at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, which houses both an aquarium and a planetarium.

Animal lovers won’t want to miss Zoo Miami, home to more than 2,000 animals. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and the Miami Beach Botanical Garden are captivating attractions for the whole family.

In Greater Miami & Miami Beach, the possibilities for excitement are endless. From the vibrant arts and culture scene to sensational shopping and sporting opportunities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Here’s just a glimpse of the countless attractions and activities awaiting visitors in Miami.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

With many scenic parks, including two national parks, Miami offers year-round outdoor adventures. Everglades National Park is an incomparable destination with a seemingly endless expanse of wetlands that invites visitors to explore by foot, kayak and boat. Experience a marine wonderland at Biscayne National Park, which is 95% under water. It is home to various endangered or threatened species and the only living coral barrier reef in the United States. At the 729,000acre Big Cypress National Preserve, cypress strands, mangrove tunnels and expanses of wet prairies are part of the lovely scenery.

State Park, at the tip of Key Biscayne, is a treasure. With rugged sand dunes leading to a comfy beach and unlimited ocean views as far as the eye can see, it’s a piece of unspoiled Old Florida. Visitors to Oleta River State Park in North Miami Beach can commune with nature by running or mountain biking along 15 miles of trails or kayaking through mangrove wetlands.

Visitors can also explore more than 280 parks in the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces system, nearly 150 parks in the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department, and more than 40 parks and facilities operated by the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department

SHOPPING

With warm, sunny weather all year and blue skies decorated with swaying palm trees, it’s no wonder there are so many al fresco malls and shopping districts in Miami. Bal Harbour Shops, which opened in 1965, is Miami’s original indoor/outdoor luxury shopping destination. Anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, it’s home to beloved designer shops such as Chanel, Prada and Tiffany & Co.

In South Beach, Lincoln Road is a classic destination for shopping, people-watching and enjoying lunch at an outdoor cafe. In Downtown Miami, Bayside Marketplace overlooks Biscayne Bay. It’s a prime spot for souvenirs and fun things to do, including boat tours and the Skyviews Miami observation wheel.

PERFORMING ARTS VENUES

Miami’s fusion of genres and cultures creates an electrifying atmosphere. From classical symphonies to pulsating electronic beats, the destination offers a diverse range of musical experiences that cater to all tastes.

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Miami hosts touring Broadway shows as well as performances by its resident companies: Miami City Ballet, Florida Grand Opera and the New World Symphony. The New World Symphony also performs at the New World Center, its cutting-edge space in South Beach designed by Frank Gehry.

In posh Coral Gables, the Miracle Mile Shopping District is home to a range of fine shops, boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Farther south, in Pinecrest,

The Miami Beach Bandshell is an enchanting performance venue. Originally built in 1961, the charming amphitheater is on the National Register of Historic Places as a prime example of Miami Modern, aka MiMo architecture, found throughout the North Beach area.

The Moss Center, located in Cutler Bay, is a state-of-the-art facility for chamber music, dance, theater and community programming. Local companies, like the vocal ensemble Seraphic Fire, and touring musical acts perform here regularly.

The Falls is an open-air shopping center with lush tropical foliage and a milliongallon waterscape running through it. Esplanade at Aventura is a contemporary and stylish retail destination that blends indoor and outdoor spaces, offering a relaxed yet refined atmosphere with plenty of open-air areas and vibrant landscaping.

Brickell City Centre is a high-design outdoor shopping center in the heart of the financial district, where a high-tech “climate ribbon” naturally cools the catwalks that lead to a mixture of high-end and approachable shops, from Giuseppe Zanotti to Zara and Sephora

Miami is also home to a wealth of classic shopping malls, such as Dadeland Mall, Midway Crossings, Dolphin Mall and CityPlace Doral.

From year-round sunshine to top-of-the-line sporting facilities and championshipwinning teams, Miami is a paradise for sports fans.

Attending a professional sports game in Miami is an experience unto itself. The Miami Marlins play at ultra-modern loanDepot Park, boasting a retractable roof. Hard Rock Stadium’s outpost of legendary nightclub LIV is the place to watch a Miami Dolphins game. The Miami Open brings top-level tennis to Hard Rock Stadium every spring. Hard Rock Stadium is also home to Formula 1 racing at the annual Miami Grand Prix.

And basketball fans must experience the excitement of cheering on the Miami HEAT to victory at the Kaseya Center, in the heart of Downtown Miami.

The MICHELIN Guide added several new establishments into Florida’s coveted MICHELIN-Starred restaurant circle in 2025.

The anonymous MICHELIN Guide inspectors bestowed Stars upon 16 dining venues in Miami, reaffirming L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Miami’s prominent position with its enduring two MICHELIN Stars.

The 2025 selection not only encompasses nearly 70 Miami restaurants but also showcases a rich tapestry of diverse cuisines.

PortMiami is iconic for cruising. Passengers love the exceptional variety of cruise lines to choose from, the new state-of-the-art cruise terminals and the proximity to incomparable voyage itineraries, including the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and beyond.

PortMiami welcomed more than 8 million cruise vacationers in 2024, with plans to exceed that number going forward.

PortMiami is the first major cruise port on the U.S. eastern seaboard to construct emission-reducing shore power capability at five cruise berths.

BRIGHTLINE

The Brightline offers express train service between Downtown Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and Orlando.

It also offers fixed-route shuttles and Hard Rock Stadium Connect shuttle service between the Aventura station and Hard Rock Stadium before and after select events.

TRI-RAIL

Tri-Rail – Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach’s commuter rail line – continues expanded service into Brightline’s MiamiCentral station in Downtown Miami.

MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MIA)

MIA had its second consecutive record-breaking year for passengers last year, with a new all-time high of 52.3M. Thanks to this growth, MIA has continued to advance in Airport Council International’s rankings of the busiest airports in the world. Because of explosive growth in 2024, its world rankings are expected to continue to climb.

And several have been added so far in 2025.

PortMiami is expanding its global leadership in the cruise industry.

MSC World America launched on its first sailing on April 9 from MSC’s new, four-level, 490,000-square-foot facility, which is now officially the largest cruise terminal in the world. As one of the most anticipated new cruise ships of 2025, it offers guests a luxurious Caribbean cruise experience right from Miami’s cruise terminal.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Aqua, the first in its Prima Plus class, set sail for the first time on April 13. Featuring attractions like the Aqua Slidecoaster, this next-generation luxury cruise ship sails to the Caribbean from PortMiami.

Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady will make her PortMiami debut in November 2025. The vessel will operate 7- to 12-night voyages to the Caribbean.

The cruise industry’s version of royalty – one of Cunard Line’s elegant “queens” – will homeport in Miami to operate new Caribbean itineraries in 2025. The 2,081-passenger Queen Elizabeth will operate 33 voyages between September 2025 and April 2026.
