Editor's Note Welcome to the Autumn/Winter 2014 edition of Télégramme Magazine. It’s a little later than usual I’ve been suffering from digital fatigue of late; too many screens, not enough things made with my hands. This issue is a celebration of the little subversive moments. Nature taking back houses, grafitti taking back the bare walls, the light taking back the dark. I hope that your summer was a good one, and that you’re ready for the crisp autumn nights that are upon us. The nights are drawing in. Love Sarah

Special Thanks

To Autumn, and to the dry days and long nights of summer.

Télégramme speaks to: dora

Dora Kontha is a designer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Do you prefer to shoot in black and white or colour? Why? Definitely colour. The different colours and the way they change from time to time in nature are simply amazing and I attempt to reflect them in my photographs as well. What really makes me calm are the monochromatic colours by the icebergs. The combination and shades of white, How long have you been taking photographs? grey and blue is utterly mesmerizing. Actually, I have been in love with photography from an early age, but it all started around If you couldn’t take photos, what would you eight years ago, when I put my hands on my do instead? grandmother’s old traditional film camera. Scandinavia has always been the do. place I longed for in all my childhood, and now I couldn’t be happier here. Probably due to this, some of my personal favourite photographs are from my journeys in the Nordic countries; it is such a wonderland for me. What do you shoot with? Primarily with Canon Rebel and Praktica. Analogue photography is something that I find endlessly fascinating with its effortless beauty and inimitable atmosphere, that’s the reason why I am using analogue cameras, instead of digital ones.

36

What is it that you enjoy about photography? It lets evanescent moments become everlasting. When nothing is permanent, and time is flying, it becomes even more important for me to remember. Moreover, there is nothing like freely experimenting with the camera without having a clue about the final result or watching developed photographs for the first time. What motivates you? The wanderlust in me.

Lately, however, I have gotten back into digital and most days choose to use my Nikon D700.

What inspires you the most? Being outside, alone, both inspires and invigorates me.

What motivates you? I’m motivated by traveling, both near and far. I try to see each destination with a fresh set of eyes, even if it is somewhere I have been dozens of times. What advice can you give people starting out with photography? Do not rely on any of your camera’s automatic settings. Learn to shoot manually! It’s more fun, and you have much greater control over your finished image.
