ONCE A BLUE DEVIL, ALWAYS A BLUE DEVIL Senior Class of 2022
Boys track team wins 7A state championship Ella Chesney Section Editor
The Marietta Boys Track Team earned the 7A state championship for the sixth time in school history. This is the first time they have won since 2008. The meet took place at McEachern High’s track complex under almost ideal conditions, with little wind but a high temperature. Last year, the team lost to Alpharetta High by two points. Members of the team took the loss to heart, working harder this year to win the championship. “Well after what happened last year, when we came up short, that really put a chip on our shoulders to
come so close and to end up short. It was devastating. So all of us knew that we would be back to win it all this year, and that’s what we did,” Zuri Johnson (12) said. The boys aren’t the only ones excited by the win. Their coaches are as well. “[I am] very proud of our team this season. They set goals a year ago and worked incredibly hard for 12 months to make their goals a reality. It is very rewarding to see the process through and to finish on top,” Head Coach Nick Houstalakis said. Continue to pg. 14 for “Track”
