by JACOB WEIGEL On Feb. 26, a team from McMinnville High School’s ProStart program went to an annual cooking competition. The team consisted of five seniors: April Haggen, Hector Zertuche-Honorato, McKenzie Purdy, Nathan Colony-Roecker and Jessep Hinkle. “They really had to make a quality meal,” said MHS ProStart advisor Carolyn Nyquist. Zertuche was the team captain during the competition. As the captain, he had many things that he needed

to keep track of that the other competitors didn’t need to worry about. “I was in charge of trying to keep the team together, some of the costing, and talking to the judges,” said Zertuche. “The students had to put together a meal that consisted of two servings of a three course meal,” said Nyquist. Teachers Jared Larson, Erin Brisbin and Kathy Beyer tutor tenth grade students of the Columbia Team during the second semester by HAYDEN ALLEN The tenth grade Columbia team staff, along school advisers, recently had a meeting where they compiled ideas about a tutoring program and considered how to develop it. Exclusive to their team, this program acts as a trial to see if their work had a positive affect on students. The three teachers who are putting their time into helping their students are Jared Larson, Kathy Beyer and Erin Brisbin. They are each tutoring their own designated subject, Larson tutoring Physical Science,

Beyer tutoring Language Arts and Brisbin tutoring History. “Instead of duty, we tutor one to five students at a time either one-on-one or in a group,” said Brisbin. “It’s helpful, because if they are gone they can make up their work, and it’s only the last 30 minutes of third period once a month, to make sure they are not out from the class too long.” When a student feels he or she needs help in a certain subject, they can sign up on a designated clip board, which the teacher goes over. The teacher then chooses
