Razors inspired by the grandeur of iconic houses and palaces in London It is a truth universally acknowledged that no discerning gentleman’s bathroom would be complete without a stainless steel safety razor. Each of the guest rooms are different, with the design offering a taste of the original Apulian palazzo style but with a modern twist. Majority of the rooms in the main building feature original 16th century vaulted ceilings and art work, typical of old Salento architecture and in the corridor on the first floor, guests will even see an old wooden door set into the wall like a work of art. Legend has it that the Duke Venturi himself had a passionate love affair with the Abbess of the convent near the present-day Church of St Anthony in town and in order to meet her, he had an underground tunnel built, which still exists, connecting the palazzo to the monastery. Throughout the hotel guests can also admire its extensive art collection of modern and classic works of art, from original paintings and sculptures to statues.

IMMERSE YOURSELF

IN AUTHENTIC GREECE Greece and its islands are a fertile blend of history, mythology, timeless monuments and spectacular natural wonders.

Clusters of sugar-cube houses climbing up a hillside with splashes of purple bougainvillea is the iconic image of Greece for many, but there is so much more. Think medieval villages with Byzantine churches, waterfront tavernas, neo-classical mansions in pastel colours, and landscapes that range from dry and rugged to thickly forested with cypress and pines. Add cliffs and volcanic mountains tumbling down onto sandy beaches, a population who are among the most generous, fun and hospitable on Earth, and you start to get an idea of what Greece offers. A luxury villa stay is possibly the most comfortable way to immerse yourself in the authentic Greece. Choosing the right base for your stay is one of the most important decisions you will make, but where does one start? That’s where Five Star Greece comes in; the small, elite specialist team offers a unique personal service that will match-make you with a handpicked villa on an island that fits your brief. Many Owners are frequent highflyers which means NetJets are able to know them and their family and friends. As a result, they are often able to have their favourite drinks and meals ready and waiting for them upon boarding. Perhaps the most unrated advantages of flying ‘private’ is the degree of autonomy, flexibility and sustainability which are given back to Owners.

This customer service extends to understanding the unique requirements of Owners. For high-net-worth individuals, there is rarely a day off and this can sometimes call for an individual to change plans at short notice. With an unrivalled fleet size, NetJets has the capability to fly an Owner to a meeting, yacht or unexpected destination and back in the same day, giving full flexibility and are able to fly an Owner to more or less any location. NetJets main European hubs operate out of two of Europe’s most well connected, historic and beautiful cities, London and Paris - on clear days, the approaches to both can be spectacular. Further South, and throughout the summer months many of the most popular routes are to Europe’s premier luxury coastal destinations. Nice, a beautiful location next to the sea and close to the mountains offers amazing views. And in the winter Samedan Airport, St. Moritz offers spectacular views with approaches over the beautiful Swiss Alps. Making aviation as sustainable as possible is also a key consideration. To this end, NetJets operates an industry leading sustainability programme and has been carbon neutral since 2012. Owners are able to join the BlueSkies carbon offset programme which allows them to make travel carbon neutral.

Rather than being bound to scheduled departure times and destinations Owners have full flexibility to fly from any location to any destination at the time they wish. NetJets offers unparalleled flexibility and peace of mind as we run the largest fleet in private aviation globally with over 800 aircraft available at any time with guaranteed short notice availability. Flights are generally direct, even to traditionally “harder to reach” locations, meaning the amount of travel required is minimised, saving on time and fuel accordingly. While providing luxury and comfort, safety is always the first priority. YACHTS & YACHTING

The lines imagined by Christian Grande for the Invictus range, right from the first GT280, have added a distinctive sculptural vocation to the typical dynamism of boating.

INVICTUS GT320 VERSILYS, WHEN MARBLE MEETS THE SEA The iconic half-reverse bow and the harmonious convexity of the hull produce a perfect balance of strength and agility: a real family feeling, capable of transforming the Italian shipyard boats into authentic classics. Giving life to a new classic is a gamble that Invictus Yacht and Henraux, interpreters of excellence, have taken on. On one side, Paolo Carli, president of Henraux; on the other, Christian Grande, Chief Designer for Invictus: the idea was to use marble precious, eternal, sculptural - on a modern, powerful, and fast boat.

Through various processing and installation tests, the two companies achieved the goal of using thin slabs of grey Versilys marble on board of a GT320, the iconic model of the Italian shipyard. Marble is used for the walkable surfaces of the deck, as well as for various details and complements on board, from the kitchenette in the cockpit to the bathroom top and its washbasin. The Titanium cushions and the Attack Grey colour embody the perfect match for the elegant shades of marble; a combination of charm and sportiness is also expressed in the choice of propulsion: two generous Volvo Penta V8s engines with 350 horsepower each, for excellent performance and comfort. The full-load weight of the GT320 Versilys differs slightly (around 70 kg) from the 8 tonnes of the standard version: this amazing result derives from an unprecedented plate processing technology and the consistent use of carbon parts, such as the hard-top and support poles of the aft awning. “The Classic does not only belong to the past, it is the image in which every civilisation has identified the most accomplished form of its culture. It is something that remains deeply relevant and continues to stand the test of time” comments Christian Grande. Issue Issue 53 53 2022 2022

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS Whether travelling across continents or over mountain passes, Bentley’s three-chamber active air suspension with adaptive damping, and Bentley Dynamic Ride provide control and comfort in abundance. The 48V active anti-roll control system was originally pioneered on the Bentayga and third-generation Continental GT and now tuned even further with the knowledge and learning since the systems introduction. This innovative system features powerful electric motors within each anti-roll bar to resist body roll. In their firmest setting, the motors can deliver 1300 Nm in 0.3 seconds to counteract cornering forces and keep the body level.

DYNAMIC ABILITY The Electronic All-Wheel Steering enhances the dynamic nature of the Continental GT Mulliner W12 in each of the driving modes. This is even more apparent in SPORT mode, as the steering combines with Bentley Dynamic Ride and the electronic limited slip differential for a level of agility unlike any other Bentley road car, utilising up to 4° of steering lock on the rear wheels. At low and medium speeds, the GT Mulliner’s rear wheels are steered in the opposite direction to the front wheels to aid a rapid change of direction, noticeably increasing the feeling of nimbleness. The steering feels sharper and with a quicker ratio, and a commensurate increase in steering feel provides even more driver confidence. At high speeds, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front, to improve stability.

The roof of the cabin is trimmed along its full length with indented hide, or smooth hide to match the seat backs if the fixed glass roof is selected. The centre console is dressed in a unique diamond milled technical finish that uses precision machining to form a perfect pattern of facets, flanked either side by Grand Black walnut veneer with chrome overlays. A unique Breitling clock sits in the centre of the console, while the passenger side fascia is finished with a silhouette of the car’s exterior profile and the Mulliner logo. The veneer flows into the doors, where it is completed by a discreet Bentley ‘B’ motif.

Maggiore Project M is an exclusive project to relive the fantastic 80s with the most modern technology and the finest materials. A perfect mix of Heritage, Design, Technology, and Italian Style to create unique and totally customizable pieces, like a tailored suit.

Only 40 cars will be produced, all following the wishes of each customer. M like Maggiore, but also M like Magnum P.I., the iconic series tv where Tom Selleck shared the show with his amazing Ferrari 308, a car with a soul and with an unmistakable line which can survive through the ages.

The project is a genuine “tribute”, not in the sense of nostalgia but rather giving new life to cars that in time might have been relegated to museums or closed in the garages of collectors. A modern reinterpretation of an iconic star of 80s, using the best technology and a deep attention to Heritage and Design.

The donor car is a real Ferrari 308 and the starting point are the original chassis and the original engine, but then all the parts have been completely re-Designed and re-built to guarantee reliability and performance of these days with a vintage allure.

The Engine has been rebuilt by Italtecnica, a well-known Italian company specialized in racing and special projects. 400 HP for 1200kg, with a manual shift to change gears and without electronic controls....Driving pleasure is guaranteed!

The body is completely realized in carbon fiber to reduce the weight, all the mechanical components have been upgraded or re-Designed and the interiors have been refreshed with high end materials, such as leather, carbon fiber and marble, a touch of our roots and a sign of our customization program. The research into the materials and colours to use was carried out by the Studio Stefan Scholten, a Design studio based in Amsterdam with many Italian influences. It was precisely this union of modern Northern European design commingling with Italian culture and Mediterranean styles that inspired us to choose this studio as partner for the development of this project. There will not exist 2 cars with the same specs! The internal components of the engine are all new, the suspensions are made of lightweight aluminum alloy, a new Brembo brake system and bigger alloy wheels. The aim of Automobili Maggiore was to put the driver back at the center of the stage, that’s why you can find a manual gearbox and a high rev natural aspirated engine ready to go up to 8000 rpm.

REVIEW > LEXUS RX450H Even though I have driven a few SUVs of late this was the first hybrid SUV that I have driven and although I went into the drive with nothing to completely match it too I was very pleasantly surprised. Yes having a hybrid is beneficial because of the impact on the economy but the RX450h does offer you some great performance and also gives you a more expensive feel compared to other SUVs in the market. Don’t be fooled by the sound of the hybrid engine because the output coming from motors definitely gives you a kick. As you would expect from Lexus the car is well built and you can feel that when behind the wheel, you get a sense of respect when driving around. It really felt like a car you could trust. One of the things I really liked about this model was the styling, I think Lexus has done a fantastic job on the RX, and when you compare it to other vehicles in the same bracket I think the overall look of the Lexus really makes it stick out from the crowd. The interior is as you would expect from Lexus, a touch of class and packed with high-quality materials and lots of equipment. The RX does seem to focus a lot on comfort and this does show when driving at any speed, as I said it really feels like this is a car you can trust and a car that is very easy to drive. If you are cruising on the motorway you feel at ease and when driving around more urban routes you don’t get out of the car with a bad back from the cobbled streets. The RX is a very practical car that is a great choice for someone looking to do long journeys but also for someone who likes having a little boost around town.

REVIEW > ANTONY HOLTER PHOTOGRAPHY > ANTONY HOLTER

The original Lexus RX was one of the first hybrid cars on the market and the model has seen a few revamps over the years but I would say the current RX450 is one that Lexus will find it hard to match, it is an impressive, large luxury SUV that offers a lot to a variety of people and would be a very suited choice to a wide audience.

Colours brighten up to play a key role in the collection, as they spread a summery taste in a rich variety of declinations and in all categories of clothing. Ginger-hued red, salmon orange, sunflower yellow and above all a wide range of light blues such as periwinkle, Oxford and ultramarine harmoniously combine with the array of greys, blues and in particular the light beiges that represent the cornerstone of the collection. Patterns play a marginal role in comparison with the variety of textures, structures and special colour-enriching effects such as délavé and mélange, conferring threedimensionality and unique characteristics to elements across the collection. Lightweight and summery knitwear displays ample creativity through its use of fresh and natural yarns, enriched by vivid seasonal colours and by the refined details that instill contemporary appeal into traditional stitches. Classic models and the distinctive proposals of the Brunello Cucinelli collections are joined by new lightweight sweaters, which reinterpret the breezy style of T-shirts and polo shirts in versions with a high level of craftsmanship. Enriched by prestigious materials and exquisite manual workmanship, the generous collection of accessories has been developed to complement the look and meet new needs in a versatile and contemporary manner. The footwear proposal expands to strengthen the selection of styles for any occasion: from formal to lightweight and dynamic casual styles, up to the capsule dedicated to the summer months featuring the most relaxed designs, which are enriched by rope details reminiscent of a nautical appeal. DAVID GANDY WELLWEAR

STAY COOL (AND PROTECT YOUR ASSETS!) WITH THE NEW POOLSIDE COLLECTION David Gandy Wellwear is excited to announce the launch of its first Poolside Collection – a carefully edited selection of swim shorts and towelling essentials, designed with both comfort and skin protection in mind. If anyone knows about the power of swimwear it’s David Gandy – a man no stranger to a pure white budgie smuggler. But this is Wellwear, where comfort is king, so there’s not a Speedo in sight in his new Poolside Collection. As the man himself notes: “Time, and my style, has moved on! With this collection I wanted all men to look and feel their best, whether in the pool or chilling out beside it.” The collection isn’t just about looking and feeling good though: it’s about being protected too. Poolside is Gandy’s first range to introduce Wellwear Protect - a new Wellwear fabric treatment providing UV protection. Applied to all of the Poolside products, it offers UPF40 sun protection without changing the appearance, handle and breathability of the fabric. Clothing with a UP (Ultraviolet Protection) Factor of 40 blocks 98% of the sun’s UVA and UVB rays, as opposed to SPF which only protects against UVA, adding an extra layer of protection during the summer1. The swimwear itself comes in two styles (short and mid-length), available in three plain colour ways (red, navy and Provence blue) ensuring that Wellwear remains attainable to everyone, while maintaining the brand’s signature style credentials. For Gandy, the shorter style, inspired by retro running kit from the 1970s, is the ultimate in comfort,

want a bit more cover but are still after style, comfort and versatility. As with all Wellwear, practicality is key, so each design has side pockets and a patch pocket on the back, as well as a draw cord waist allowing the wearer to move, run and swim in total comfort and accommodating expanding waistlines after long holiday lunches! Eyelets are sewn in (as opposed to using metal) which enhances the products’ overall biodegradability credentials and prevents them from ‘ballooning up’ in the pool. To accompany the swim shorts, signature Wellwear styles – including the Sweatshirt, Polo and Shorts – have been reimagined in towelling fabric, all made from 100% BCI cotton for maximum softness, breathability and water absorption. Complimented by a Breton-style striped Heritage Tee, these can be styled with the swimwear or worn as part of an all-day wardrobe. ensures they look just as good worn as part of an all-day wardrobe as they do for swimming or lounging by the pool. What’s more, the fabric is the world’s first polyamide yarn which is responsibly sourced and biodegrades in just a few years, compared to traditional plastic materials which can take tens or hundreds.

Natural diamonds are genuine, unique, billion-year-old miracles of nature with enduring emotional and financial value because of their rarity and preciousness. Natural diamonds are like any other natural creation, no two are the same meaning that the gemstones that adorn your jewellery are truly unique to you.

BEYOND THE 4CS:

THE NATURAL DIAMOND STORY Over the past two decades, modern diamond recovery has undergone a significant, positive transformation; however, many incorrect and outdated misperceptions still exist. At Baker Brothers, we welcome customers’ questions about our diamonds as we know that a simple, honest conversation can help break down these harmful impressions. As a loose diamond and gemstone specialist, we enjoy nothing more than sitting with our customers, whilst they use one of our jeweller’s loupes to see their diamonds up close. We pride ourselves on our extensive knowledge and openness about our diamonds and their source. With this in mind, we’ve put together an easy-to-read FAQ Guide.

HOW DO I KNOW I AM BUYING AN ETHICAL DIAMOND? The diamond industry has worked hard to transform itself over the last 20 years. Today, conflict diamonds, are virtually eliminated from the market through the regulation of the UN-mandated Kimberley Process. Baker Brothers ensure the diamond producers we partner with go above and beyond the Kimberley Process to encompass people, planet and business ethics. We will only work with those that abide by numerous international human rights frameworks and labour regulations, alongside country-specific rules to ensure they do business in the most responsible and sustainable way. Did you know? Diamond producers create $16 billion per year in socioeconomic and environmental benefits in the countries in which they operate. 80% of the total benefits are infused back into local communities. Every year, modern diamond recovery contributes over $292 million in benefits

IS DIAMOND RECOVERY HARMFUL TO PEOPLE? Modern diamond recovery provides safe, high-quality, high-paying career opportunities to people in remote regions of the world where job opportunities are otherwise limited. Employees of leading diamond producers are paid on average 66% more than the national average salary and receive nearly five times the living wage in his/her country. Did you know? There is just one safety incident per 1,000,000 hours worked within today’s largescale diamond recovery operations. For context, the safety injury frequency is 15 times greater in today’s retail sector, and 30 times greater in today’s transportation industry.

related to social programs worldwide, from education to healthcare.

IS BUYING A NATURAL DIAMOND ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE? Large scale diamond recovery companies adhere to strict environmental standards and develop environmental management, monitoring and protection plans. These plans are created in collaboration with local communities, as well as local and national governments. These focus on defining, tracking and reporting on their sustainability programs, aligning with sustainable diamond standards such as ISO 14001-the international standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system (EMS), the Carbon Disclosure Project for the management of environmental impact, and the GRI global standard for sustainability reporting, and the UNGC. Did you know? The natural diamond industry protects three times more land than they use. One of the world’s leading diamond suppliers plays a leading role in conservation through the Diamond Route; equating to around 200,000 hectares (an area 2.5 times the size of New York City) of unique habitats that are home to vulnerable, threatened and endangered species. AND these same producers recycle 83% of the water used in diamond recovery, again controlling and reducing the impact on the environment.

BUT SURELY LAB GROWN DIAMONDS (LGD) ARE BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT? While Lab Grown Diamonds don’t cause the same level of environmental discourse as diamond recovery, the methods used in their manufactured lab environment do raise concerns. This is what happens in a controlled diamond lab environment: • A process that normally takes millions of years underground and uses heat and pressure from the environment to create a natural diamond is mimicked in a lab in mere weeks using intense manufactured heat. • These factories don’t (usually) have assembly lines, but the machinery used requires constant energy, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to produce these gems. The source of this energy is important to the ultimate sustainability of LGD. • Diamond Labs use enormous microwave-heat generators to replicate the earth’s process through high pressure, high

ARE LABORATORY-GROWN DIAMONDS MORE SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS THAN NATURAL DIAMONDS? The natural diamond industry supports the livelihood of 10 million people worldwide. Leading diamond producers create $16 billion of benefits annually for employees, communities and the environment—and 80% of these benefits are retained by local communities. The wealth generated by laboratory grown diamond companies largely benefits only a select few venture capitalists and investors who have yet to demonstrate similar socioeconomic contributions. “With Berry’s heritage, the theme of ‘family’ was a central concept in the collection, from mood board to final design. ‘OPEIA’ takes its name from Cassiopeia, a five-point constellation in the shape of a W, which is a nod to the Walton family who have run Berry’s for five generations.” Simon Walton, Managing Director of Berry’s, comments: “OPEIA is without a doubt a beautiful collection and one befitting of such an anniversary for Berry’s. It is testament to Emily and her team’s skills that the pieces are so arresting and we’re sure they will draw a lot of attention. “To make 125 years is a sign of celebration, we wanted to mark it by producing something that our clients can celebrate with us. “The unveiling of this new range marks our 125th year in the business, and of this we are extremely proud. We look forward to showing the new pieces off in stores nationwide!” Chairman Jeffrey Walton adds: “If my mother- and father-in-law would have thought that we’d be here after 125 years, they would have been amazed. So, we want to enjoy every second of this, and we want everyone to enjoy it with us.” Berry’s boasts boutiques across the nation, including York, Leeds, Newcastle, Hull, Nottingham and Windsor.

This series of work draws on an ongoing fascination with nineteenth century migration and exploration into Australia. With objects there is the possibility of creating narratives - each piece points to an associated purpose, imbued with multiple social and cultural histories and interpretations. There is also the reference to the abstractions found in the everyday, the chip of an enamel mug, the scratched paint of a car or the aging surfaces of industrial chimneys. The white/pale tones of the glazed surface of the works, whilst having their influences in the white porcelains of Japan, China and Korea, seek to capture light and tone. This can suggest histories but also allows for present day reverie and reflection.

INSPIRATION One of the reasons that first pushed Alia to open her gallery years ago was to showcase Oman and its heritage to the public. “I want tourists to see Oman in a contemporary way,” says Alia. Born in Muttrah, a center of marine trade in Oman with a rich heritage, at a time of historical change in the country, left a long impact on the artist’s life. “The fast growth of Oman has affected our traditional lifestyles and the way we communicate with each other. Through my art, I want to preserve our identity,” says Alia. Alia Gallery does not only showcase the work of the Omani artist, but also houses a public library, a quiet space for visitors that holds books on philosophy, arts, selfdevelopment, in addition to biographies, Alia Gallery stands in the heart of an industrial town in Muscat serving as an oasis of colour and haven for those who seek inspiration.
