As part of the brand’s commitment to contemporary urban living, the hotel’s design — including all studio and metropolitan rooms — has been reimagined by Italian designer Paola Navone. This Bangkok opening becomes Navone’s second project in Thailand for COMO Hotels and Resorts, and a perfect pairing with our island hotel, COMO Point Yamu, on the southern Thai island of Phuket.

Navone’s trademark is a modern sense of place without cultural pastiche. This is achieved through sensitively balancing local materials (wood, ceramic, and stone), and a confident, playful contemporaneity

using form and colour, including oversized woven seat-backs and splashes of Buddhist orange.

Textures, including marble, are simple, satisfying and luxurious, and come alive in the play of light and

shadow. The lobby counter — clad in textured stone with subtle reliefs — draws inspiration from Thai masonry and temple walls, whilst an overhead patterned bamboo wall recalls traditional Thai screens filtering the tropical skies.

“With our urban properties, I’ve always wanted to create hotels with spirit which are dynamic and design-forward,” says COMO Hotels and Resorts’ founder, Christina Ong, who opened her first Metropolitan hotel in London in 1997; “But they also need to be elegant and exceptionally comfortable — places where our guests can retreat from the city to enjoy a pared-back, almost meditative simplicity.”

This balance — between lively city living, and the serene escapism travellers seek with busy schedules — is also manifested in the hotel’s key offerings, including dining and wellness.

Awarded an eighth consecutive one-Michelin star in the Michelin Guide 2025, nahm on the ground floor of COMO Metropolitan Bangkok, led by Chef Pim Techamuanvivit, offers a refined take on regional Thai cuisine.

Reservations are essential for this spectacular journey in the sweet, salty, hot and sour contradictions of one of Asia’s most complex cuisines.

But sometimes, guests want something a little easier — a familiar comfort food, or a light, healthy option after a late-night arrival.

With this in mind, COMO Cuisine makes its Thai debut at the new COMO Metropolitan Bangkok with a new restaurant on the second floor and a substantial all-day dining menu. Developed by Australian chef Daniel Moran, COMO’s Culinary Vice President, alongside COMO Group Executive Chef, Amanda Gale, menus feature salads, soups, meats and fish dishes, ‘kitchen’ classics, sharing dishes, and kids’ favourites.

The restaurant also features a wide selection from COMO Shambhala Kitchen — a healthy living concept with an emphasis on whole foods.

Dishes are low in sugar, salt and free of artificial additives. The energising juices are thoughtfully crafted in collaboration with COMO’s expert nutritionist to nourish both body and mind.

While the Navone-designed lobby and the hotel’s 25m-long outdoor pool invite conviviality, guests can also retreat completely for yoga and restorative treatments at the hotel’s iconic COMO Shambhala wellness centre featuring 10 treatment rooms, a yoga studio, gym and hydro pool.

This redesign will attract guests who want some peace and quiet in the city centre, but that’s not to say it’s a hotel where you are cut off from the culture. The hotel’s new Iconic Experiences, designed to immerse guests in the culture and creativity of Bangkok, will include a private shopping experience in collaboration with Club 21 — another of Christina Ong’s companies, featuring different stores across the city specialising in highly edited collections of men’s and womenswear. Oenophiles will also have access via new Iconic Experience to the Monsoon Valley Siam Winery — a bold new departure for viticulture just outside Bangkok. This immersive journey will help diners make sense of the terroir, and the wine pairings recently introduced to the hotel’s Thai restaurant.

The reopening of COMO Metropolitan Bangkok, with is elegantly appointed 137 rooms and suites, is an important moment as part of a bigger journey for the brand. “We now have five urban hotels, with two in London, and one in Perth, Singapore and Bangkok.

From the moment we approached the sweeping grounds to the moment we reluctantly packed our bags, the experience carried a sense of calm and comfort that is increasingly rare to find. What stood out most was not just the aesthetic beauty of the estate, but the atmosphere the team has managed to cultivate: warm, welcoming, and deeply relaxing.

We arrived in the afternoon and were immediately taken by the setting. Eastwell Manor’s grounds are stunning—expansive lawns, mature trees, and a historic manor house that seems to carry centuries of stories in its architecture. It’s the kind of place where simply walking from the car to the entrance feels like a gentle step back in time.

Inside, that sense of tranquillity continues. The interiors are elegant without being pretentious, and the ambience is unmistakably cosy,

One of the highlights of our stay was the afternoon tea. It perfectly matched the traditional, snug character of the venue. Presented beautifully, the tea felt indulgent without being overly formal. The selection of sandwiches, pastries, and scones was thoughtfully put together, and everything tasted fresh and homemade. What truly elevated the experience, though, was the setting—comfortable chairs, soft decor, and the gentle hum of a quiet room where people seemed to naturally unwind. It was the kind of afternoon tea that encourages you to linger rather than rush.

Dinner that evening was equally memorable. We were particularly impressed by how accommodating the kitchen was regarding our

dietary requirements. Rather than making the adaptations feel like an inconvenience or an afterthought, the staff handled everything with ease, reassurance, and genuine care.

This level of attentiveness made the meal feel personal and thoughtfully tailored.

To start, I ordered the scallops, which turned out to be one of the highlights of the entire visit.

Cooked perfectly, they were tender and full of rich flavour, beautifully balanced and plated. My main course—the steak—was cooked with the same precision. It arrived exactly as ordered, with a great sear on the outside and a tender, flavourful centre. Dining in a setting as elegant and serene as Eastwell Manor’s dining room only made the experience more enjoyable.

The pace of service was relaxed but attentive, allowing us to savour each course without feeling rushed.

The spa experience, much like the rest of the stay, wasn’t just a service—it was an atmosphere, a feeling, a rhythm that encourages you to slow down.

After unveiling their partnership last November and giving the name back to this iconic watch, Piaget and the Foundation Andy Warhol unveil a limited edition of 50 pieces, inspired by the “Collage” artwork of the artist.

Through more than 150 years, Piaget has introduced numerous watch and jewellery collections inspired by the creative arts. As a result, its designs have consistently attracted a discerning clientele from the art world, marrying the delicate and often intangible beauty of the artistic crafts with the brilliance of precision watchmaking. client was the visual artist Andy Warhol, a leading light of the hugely influential Pop Art movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Warhol, an avid collector of both trivial and exquisite objects, purchased seven Piaget watches in his lifetime, none more recognizable than the iconic cushion-shaped piece he acquired in 1973, previously named the 15102 watch.

POP GOES THE WATCH In 2024, Piaget entered into a relationship with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and

By the time of his death in 1987, he had amassed a collection of more than 300 watches, including seven

by Piaget. These were auctioned by Sotheby’s in New York a year later, and of those, four were purchased

by Piaget and returned to its private collection in Switzerland. Among them was a black and gold example of the iconic reference 15102, a 45mm watch imagined by Piaget’s creative director Jean-Claude Gueit and produced in limited series between 1972 and 1977. That design, later known as the Black Tie, was reimagined for Piaget’s 140th anniversary in 2014. Parallels were drawn between the watch and Andy Warhol at the time, but it was only in the autumn of 2024 that the association was officially recognized when the Swiss Maison and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts entered into partnership for the first time.

Now, a year on, a watch that captures and interprets Warhol’s work. The Andy Warhol Watch ‘Collage’ Limited Edition features a dial decorated with a marqueterie of colourful ornamental gemstones arranged into an abstract form that echoes one of Warhol’s most celebrated polaroid collage self-portraits, taken in 1986. The watch’s stepped 45mm case is cast in 18-carat yellow gold, a metal chosen in homage to Warhol’s 1973 own watch, and that is otherwise unavailable in the contemporary Andy Warhol Watch collection.

The result is a watch that tells the story of our collaboration but that stands on its own as a piece of watchmaking art, a collectible inspired by one of history’s most prolific collectors.”

THE COLOURFUL APPROACH A WORK OF ART, A LABOUR OF LOVE Andy Warhol is quoted as saying that ‘Art is what you can get away with’, a reference to the media theorist Marshall McLuhan. Yet when Piaget came to collaborating with the Andy Warhol Foundation, no such chances were taken. Instead, the Maison’s artistic director Stéphanie Sivrière and her team immersed themselves in Andy Warhol’s work and in the collaboration, travelling to New York to view archives opened up by the foundation, visiting exhibitions and devouring countless books dedicated to the pop artist’s vast catalogue.

The two parties agreed that in this first year of the partnership, the focus should fall on colour, a feature of Warhol’s portfolio, which often drew down on the bright, eye-catching tropes of commercial artwork developed for marketing and advertising purposes. “We spent six months researching Andy Warhol before we settled on a direction,” says Stéphanie Sivrière.

“With such a wealth of material to draw on, it was extremely difficult to know where to begin. Should we look to one of his most famous

When I was a little girl, I lived in my sketchbooks — drawing colours, patterns, endless outfits. Creating was simply who I was. But as life became more structured, I drifted away from that instinct. Everything looked perfect from the outside, yet inside something quiet had gone missing.

Then the signs began — the number 55 appearing everywhere, nudging me to look deeper and reconnect with myself. I started travelling, hoping to understand what it all meant, and the number followed me like a quiet reminder.

The real shift happened in Bodrum.

By chance, I was booked into a hidden resort surrounded by forest. Its minimal architecture set against wild nature struck me instantly — a perfect balance of clashing opposites. Something in that stillness opened my creativity again.

I realised I didn’t want to just create for seasons anymore.

I wanted to create something timeless.

That moment Mystique 55 was born — not a business idea, but a return to myself.

“55” for the moment my inspiration came back to life.

It isn’t named after a number, but after a moment, in which I remembered who I truly am.

When did ceramics first capture your interest as a medium?

My journey continued, and my next destination was Marrakech.

There, I found the same harmony between architecture and nature that had inspired me in Bodrum — but expressed with far richer detail and a deep ceramic tradition. Rich colours, geometric patterns, and craftsmanship rooted in centuries of culture were everywhere.

In that moment, I felt genuinely inspired. I realised I could take everything fashion had taught me — structure, storytelling, design — and express it through a medium that felt timeless. Every ceramic piece was like a work of art, created to last and to carry meaning long after trends fade.

4 Your design background at Parsons Paris and your experience in couture craftsmanship are extraordinary. How have these experiences influenced the aesthetics and techniques behind your ceramic collections?

Launching a ceramics brand allowed me to return to the part of myself that existed long before modelling — the designer, the creator, the girl who sketched obsessively from the age of four. Modelling gave me incredible experiences, but it also meant stepping into someone else’s vision. My own ideas, my aesthetic, my sketchbooks were always behind the curtain.

I was very lucky to study at one of the best universities in the world. Parsons gave me a level of inspiration and focus that felt completely natural — and that focus helped me win the Golden Thimble.

What I learned there shaped everything I do now. Parsons taught me that fashion is, at its core, a form of art. The materials may change, but the principles stay the same: deep research, strong storytelling, and the courage to create something that has never existed before.

Mystique 55 became the moment I remembered who I was. It wasn’t a business idea — it felt like a rebirth.

Ceramics gave me a medium where I could finally create rather than perform.

My time in couture studio in Balmain refined that even further — precision, structure, proportion, and respect for craftsmanship. Those lessons are present in every ceramic collection I design. The process is almost identical: I research, build a narrative, shape the forms, and bring them to life. Only now, I express those ideas through a medium that feels more enduring.

I also discovered how much I enjoy the leadership side — being handson with every part of the brand, from design and production to logistics, sales, and the relationships with clients, department stores, and artists. Running a business requires clarity, kindness, optimism, and a steady belief in what you’re building.

If you don’t trust your own vision, how can anyone else follow it?

6 The pieces in your new ceramic line have a distinct artistic language. What themes, inspirations, or cultural references shape the design direction of the collection?

Having experienced the uncertainty of being an artist myself, I created Mystique 55 to give other artists a wider platform — a way for their work to live not only in galleries, but in everyday life.

Our first launch, arriving this December, is a collaboration with photographer Tim Flach inspired by his Birds series. We redrew each bird by hand, refined the tones digitally, and paired them with optical-art patterns to create a balance between nature and structure — the visual language of Mystique 55.

Sustainability, for us, is expressed through imagery. By placing living creatures within stark, digital environments, each piece becomes a quiet reminder of the fragile world we are losing, inviting reflection rather than instruction.

This meeting of organic forms and precise geometry defines our aesthetic. The result is a contemporary interpretation of beauty — timeless in feeling, yet distinctly modern.

7 Mystique 55 is built around authenticity, heritage, and respect for craft. How do these values show up in the way your ceramics are created?

All of our fine bone china pieces are handmade in England — the place where this craft was born and perfected. We produce our collections in Staffordshire, using time-honoured techniques that have been preserved for generations. Every motif is applied by hand, and each glaze and finish — including our 24-carat gold detailing — is meticulously tested for quality and safety.

We honour our artistic collaborators by crediting their work on every piece, and I visit the factory regularly. I genuinely enjoy working with their creative studio — our relationship has become a true partnership built on shared vision and respect for craft. One of my favourite parts of those visits is exploring their archive: an incredible library of hand-drawn sketches dating back centuries.

9 You often champion fair recognition and opportunity for artists. How does your ceramics brand incorporate or support artist collaboration?

I often draw inspiration from those details, bringing traditional elements into our modern designs.

8 Ceramics is a field rooted deeply in tradition but open to innovation.

How do you balance timehonoured techniques with your modern design sensibilities?

I balance tradition and innovation by designing within contrasts is what defines Mystique 55. Our work always starts with the handmade — the heritage of British fine bone china, the touch of the artisan, the precision of traditional craft.

But the designs themselves are built on a modern visual language: the meeting of organic forms and geometric structure, nature placed within architectural or digital worlds, softness framed by precision.

This tension is intentional. It’s the signature of the brand.

We use technology — including digital refinement and advanced AI tools — not to replace the handmade process, but to expand it. The craft gives us authenticity; the technology gives us new possibilities. Together, they create a look that feels both rooted and forward-thinking.

Our sustainability message also lives in this contrast. By placing living creatures within controlled, often architectural environments, we quietly show the fragility of the natural world inside a man-made one. It’s a visual reminder rather than a slogan.

At Mystique 55, collaboration is a way of extending an artist’s world into a new dimension. We don’t simply “use” their imagery — we translate their vision into objects of permanence, allowing collectors to live with the art they love in a more intimate, domestic form.

Many collectors long to surround themselves with pieces that echo the aesthetic of the works they admire; our ceramics offer that bridge, that continuation of a visual language.

For the artists, it becomes a refined platform — their work is introduced into homeware without the burden of managing production, yet their creative identity remains intact.

They gain both visibility and royalties, while their artistry finds a new life beyond the frame.

It is a mutually enriching exchange: art elevated into object, object elevated by art, each sustaining the other with quiet sophistication.

10 Launching a new venture is always a learning curve. What has been the biggest challenge—and the biggest surprise—since stepping into the world of ceramic artistry and production?

What struck me most was the change of rhythm. Fashion demands constant reinvention — new shapes, new cuts, never-ending urgency. Ceramics, by contrast, offers a fixed form and a far calmer pace. It gives you the luxury of focusing entirely on the artwork, the narrative, the refinement.

And collaborating with artists has been a delight — an intimate, deeply creative exchange that feels far more considered than the frenetic churn of fashion.

11 As you merge art, luxury, and craftsmanship, what do you hope collectors will feel or experience when they engage with your ceramic pieces?

I want that immediate moment of wonder — a sense that the piece is both unexpected and irresistible.

And then, as they study it, I want the details to unfold gradually, like chapters in a quiet narrative.

A Mystique 55 piece should feel alive with discovery: the sort of object you return to, only to notice something new each time.

12 Looking ahead, what can we expect from the evolution of your ceramics brand—new collections, collaborations, or creative directions?

Looking ahead, Mystique 55 will continue to grow as a house of art, storytelling, and refined craftsmanship. Ceramics are only the beginning. In time, we’ll expand into other realms of the home — textiles, objets, perhaps even a quiet return to fashion through select, sculptural pieces that echo our aesthetic language.

But for now, our focus is simple: to place our work in the world with purpose. We aim to see Mystique 55 within five-star hotels, private clubs, and the great department stores — spaces that understand timelessness and value the dialogue between art and design.

Ultimately, my hope is that Mystique 55 becomes a legacy brand: a place where artists are honoured, craftsmanship is protected, and beauty is made to last. If, in some small way, our pieces make the world feel more considered, more poetic — then we have done our job.

A SILENT REVOLUTION: diesel-electric propulsion At the heart of the 58Steel lies a revolutionary diesel-electric propulsion system, the first of its kind in Sanlorenzo’s steel line.

This new configuration marks a decisive step towards sustainability, reducing emissions by around 10% compared with conventional propulsion and enabling up to two hours of silent cruising or up to eight hours of zero-emissions hotel operation while at anchor.

The system is based on five 425 kW generators and a 1 MWh capacity battery pack. Its modular design enhances efficiency and flexibility, while azimuthal pods with rotating propellers improve manoeuvrability and reduce vibration and noise.

The entire engine room has been re-engineered to occupy a single deck, freeing up more than 40m² of additional space — a remarkable achievement that has been repurposed to expand the guest and beach areas.

While drawing inspiration from the 57Steel design, 58Steel evolves it completely, offering interior volumes comparable to those of a 64-meter yacht. Sunreef Yachts releases the latest full shooting of its hotly anticipated Ultima 55, the debut model of the shipyard’s new performance catamaran line.

Designed for modern lifestyle seekers and adventure lovers, the Ultima 55 introduces a more contemporary and aggressive look, foil-assisted performance, and exhilarating 38 knot top speeds, all while delivering the signature luxury and comfort that define Sunreef’s DNA. With 5 hulls launched and 9 hulls under construction, the model is proving to be one of Sunreef’s most successful launches to date.

A NEW CONCEPT From the dock, it is at once obvious that the Ultima 55 is both part of the Sunreef family and something completely new. Its exterior design includes familiar cues, such as the gently chamfered edges and elegantly curved sweep of the hull aft. There’s also the contrast of the dark glass of the superstructure and the numerous hull lights.

But the design has been rethought from the keel up. Lines are much more aggressive, with a deep chine and a dramatic reverse bow. The mullions of the saloon windows are raked forward, giving a sense of athleticism and motion. And out of sight, below the twin hulls, a robust foil provides lift and reduces drag.

Yachts. Twin fold-down wings at the stern create a 7.6m-wide platform for watersports or sun worship. The deck is flush all the way into the main saloon, giving an enormous island of space for sofas, sun loungers and tables, plus the option of a bar area and icemaker. There is a second lounging area on the broad foredeck, benefiting more from the breeze.

The aft deck offers plenty of space to store a tender or jetskis using a clever removable crane arm for launch and recovery. When not in use, the crane simply stows away out of sight. Further storage under the aft loungers is ample for an array of toys, from Seabobs to dive kit, making the Ultima 55 an amazing platform for fun on the water.

This is a flexible boat, sporting a sleek superstructure that can be opened right up to merge the indoor and outdoor spaces, or closed off to create an interior cocoon. It means that the galley and helm station in the saloon can be connected to the

“The Ultima is a little unusual for a Sunreef,” said Lapp. “The brand heritage is clear, but the design is edgier and more dynamic. We have drawn on our long experience of developing stable, efficient hulls to create something that is capable of higher speeds. All the elements that characterise a Sunreef are there, from the solar panels to the extreme comfort and flexible exterior living. It’s just in a faster, more compact form.”

TECHNOLOGY AT THE SERVICE OF COMFORT Like all Sunreef yachts, smart technology is used to enhance life on board. The Ultima 55 features high-performance solar panels on the coach roof, capable of generating many kilowatts of renewable power to keep the boat’s batteries topped up.

The first boat is equipped with 2× Volvo Penta IPS800 drives to deliver optimal power and manoeuvrability, and Sunreef now has 5 units launched, including some hybrid versions. Twin 350kW motors fitted between the main engines and the propeller offer the possibility of silent electric propulsion at eco speeds and while manoeuvring or fast battery charging when the main 600hp engines are running. A surface drive option is also available for even lower draft.

Facilities below deck preserve Sunreef’s legendarily high comfort, without conceding too much weight.

Steps lead down to each hull, giving access to a large master stateroom to portside and a VIP stateroom to starboard, both with large ensuite bathrooms, as well as an extra cabin for a guest or crew member.

Either way, the yacht carries 1,500 litres of fuel, which gives enough range to cross from Capri to Porto Cervo, for instance. The carefully developed foil that spans the two hulls below the waterline is a key part of achieving that range and reducing fuel consumption. It hasn’t been designed to lift the boat out of the water altogether, but it generates enough lift to dramatically reduce the effective weight and drag of the boat. To the same end, the deck is built entirely in carbon composite.

The Ultima range runs from 44ft to 111ft in length, covering six models.

Museum Partner For 2026, London Art Fair is proud to host the National Trust as its museum partner, who will present highlights from the collections of two modernist masterpieces: The Homewood and 2 Willow Road. This marks the first time the National

Trust has presented an exhibition of its modernist artworks on this scale, offering a rare opportunity to see many works that have never before left their historic homes.

The display includes paintings and sculptures by masters such as Max Ernst, Rita Kernn-Larsen, Avinash Chandra, Prunella Clough, and Henry Moore, alongside the original furniture and interiors that give these homes their distinctive character.

Designed in the 1930s by pioneering architect Ernő Goldfinger for his family, 2 Willow Road in Hampstead is a celebrated modernist home opened to the public by the National Trust in 1996. The display will feature highlights from the Goldfingers’ 20th-century art collection, including a rare stringed sculpture

by Henry Moore, Surrealist paintings by Max Ernst and Rita Kernn-Larsen; and a collage by Sir Roland Penrose featuring Lee Miller.

curated artworks. We’re thrilled to bring these remarkable collections together for new audiences to enjoy at London Art Fair.”

Platform This year’s Platform section, titled The Unexpected and is curated by art historian and artist Dr Ferren Gipson, brings together galleries and artists redefining the boundaries between craft, applied art, and fine art. Building on Gipson’s acclaimed book Women’s Work, the exhibition explores how materials, process, and form can shift how we create and experience art. From textiles and ceramics to other unconventional media, the section explores the creative possibilities and surprises that emerge when artists experiment and innovate.

The Homewood in Esher, a postwar unconventional and luxurious modernist masterpiece designed by Patrick Gwynne, was built on stilts and meticulously designed as his family home until 2003. Highlights from its collection, including drawings by French artist and sculptor Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, will also be on display at the Fair.

John Chu, Senior Curator of Pictures and Sculpture at the National Trust, said, “Both 2 Willow Road and The Homewood are exceptional examples of British modernist homes preserved with their original art collections.

At 2 Willow Road, Ernő and Ursula Goldfinger’s passion for art was inseparable from their architecture: deeply embedded in artistic circles, the couple supported exhibitions and were patrons of modernist artists.

The Homewood, a mid-century modernist dream designed by Patrick Gwynne, carries the spirit of 1930s modernism into the postwar era with its elegant design and

Among the highlights, Cavaliero Finn will present works by Isabel Fletcher, Alice Foxen and Richard McVetis, artists who each explore materiality in distinct ways. Fletcher’s Satin Overlap repurposes offcuts from ballet shoes, which would normally be discarded, to create a delicate, layered work raising questions about sustainability, labour and transformation.

Quad Fine Art will show works

by Peter Jackson, known for his inventive use of surface and texture. Jackson blends sand, gravel

and burlap into paint, creating tactile, abstract compositions that appear minimalist at first but reveal complex layers on closer inspection. Gillian Jason Gallery, which champions femaleidentifying artists, will bring work

by Emily Ponsonby, who uses an ancient technique through beeswax and oil to build rich, textured layers that reveal their subjects over time.

Thrown Contemporary will present expressive ceramics in terracotta, stoneware, porcelain and mixed media, from artists including Bisila Noha, Renata Cassiano Alvarez, Zuleika Melluish and Michael Rice.

Dr Ferren Gipson said, “I’m very interested in how an artist’s choice of materials shapes the way we interpret their work. I love seeing artists push the limits of what a medium can do - through unconventional processes, unusual combinations, or by drawing out qualities we didn’t expect. The Unexpected is about celebrating that spirit of curiosity and innovation, and I hope visitors will experience moments of surprise and delight as they encounter these works.”

Encounters The Fair will also see the return of the Encounters section, established in 2005 to support emerging and international galleries. This year’s edition brings together a diverse selection of galleries from around the world, with participation subsidised by London Art Fair to champion new talent and provide a platform for engaging with collectors at the heart of London’s art scene.

In this section, Gallery Kitai, based in Japan and specialising in contemporary art using Eastern ink, will present new work by artist Fumie Onuki created especially for the Fair. Istanbul-based Gallery KAIROS‘ presentation will explore themes of memory,

fragility, and queer temporality, through artists like Murat Balcı, who approaches issues of power, body, and representation through a queer political lens. Returning to Encounters, another gallery hailing from Istanbul Galeri/Miz will be presenting works from Belmin Pilevneli, Doğukan Çiğdem, Metin Kalkızoğlu, and Tuba Önder Demircioğlu. Mexico City-based gallery Avant Dev, a first time exhibitor at the Fair, will present a dynamic display of traditional and digital materials, including emerging artist Murakiit, who combines the aesthetics of pixel art with traditional painting and textile.

Dr Pryle Behrman, curator of Encounters, said, “This year’s Encounters sees many artists exploring and reimagining the sociological notion of ‘radical care’.

This might involve highlighting water as a symbol of nurturing that spans both Daoist theology and contemporary feminism, as evident in BAISHUI’s installation

by RONG Art Space from Shanghai.

While caring for people remains of utmost importance for the artists of Encounters, the scope of ‘radical care’ is expanded to incorporate

artistic legacies, diverse and sometimes fragile materials, and the world in its entirety beyond humankind.”

BRITISH MUSEUM TO SAVE EXQUISITE HENRY VIII PENDANT FOR THE NATION The British Museum has today launched a major campaign to save the ‘Tudor Heart’, a spectacular gold pendant linked to Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon, by acquiring it permanently for the nation.

Discovered in 2019 by a metal detectorist, the Museum has the opportunity to purchase the Heart to stop it entering a private collection. It hopes to raise £3.5m

by April 2026 and calls for public support to achieve this goal and help ensure it remains on view for generations to come.

The dazzling heart-shaped 24-carat-gold pendant offers a rare glimpse into Henry VIII’s marriage to Katherine of Aragon, uniting the Tudor rose with Katherine’s pomegranate symbol.

Beneath, a banner reads tousiors, the old French for ‘always’, a poignant declaration of an eternal connection. Their marriage, lasting 24 years, was the longest of Henry’s life and shaped the early Tudor court with Katherine as a trusted partner of Henry, sometimes acting as Regent in his times of absence.

Almost no other objects survive that celebrate Henry and Katherine’s relationship, most having been lost over time. The Tudor Heart therefore acts as an important historical witness, showing both the luxury of Henry VIII’s earlier reign and the strength of their union before it was ultimately annulled in 1533.

Research by the British Museum suggests the pendant may have been created for a tournament held in October 1518 to mark the

betrothal of their daughter, Princess Mary, to the French heir apparent.

Henry frequently commissioned London goldsmiths to create ‘costume’ jewellery for major celebrations and state occasions which were worn briefly by members of the court to create the impression of great splendour.

The campaign has been kick-started by a donation of £500,000 from The Julia Rausing Trust, bringing the goal of acquiring the pendant closer.

Unearthed in a field in Warwickshire, the Heart was discovered and subsequently reported under the Treasure Act 1996. Under the act, finders are obligated to report all finds of potential treasure and are rewarded for their contributions to the telling of history. The vital scheme, run by the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS), gives museums and galleries in England an avenue to protect history and ensure museums have the opportunity to acquire unique and significant objects to put on public display.
