Yoroi by de Castelli

“There are some pieces that you never stop coveting. For me, one of these is the Yoroi sideboard from de Castelli. Whether I think about the overlapping tiles of the Samurai’s war dress (that’s what the name means), or the glimmering gleam of fish scales, or the interplay of the different shades of metal that you can specify... or the gentle curves... or the hidden drawers — all of it makes me feel happy. It had me at Yoroi. This is the sideboard for me, not just for 2021, but for life.” Monique Tollgård Head of Interior Design

Circle Dining Chair by Overgaard & Dyrman

“I like the geometry behind the design: the Circle Chair demonstrates the blend of mathematics and art that gives pleasure to the eye. The back of the armchair reminds me of a pair of compasses used to draw a circle. Overgaard & Dyrman is a new addition to our portfolio and will soon be part of our display as well, which is very exciting for all of us at Tollgard.” Giorgi Liveson Studio Manager & Head of Operations

Icosofà by Ceccotti Collezioni

“If by some delightful miracle Santa Baby were to slip a sofa under my tree — it would most certainly have to be the Ico Sofa from the Ceccotti Collezioni. It is modern and lusciously curvaceous but still exhibits elegant lines and restrained styling. It’s a classic piece that would work well in any number of settings and has all the elements of an enduring design. I won’t tire of its beguiling shape — so Santa, when you read this, don’t forget I’ve been an awful good boy!” Peter Phan Ceccotti Showroom Manager

Catenary Barstool by Token NYC

“Each Catenary stool is lovingly made by Token’s dedicated artisan teams, and it shows. For me, it reflects the best of Brooklyn furniture craft, I just love the way that it marries the materials so precisely. Hard woods, strong metals and thick leather hides have combined to create an original contemporary design that will last a lifetime.” Max Pilbeam Contracts Director

CB-457 Geometric Daybed by BassamFellows

“Influenced by the Bauhaus movement, the mix of tubular steel and bentwood pushes boundaries to create this ergonomically designed daybed. Ultimate comfort is provided with leather wrapped cushion padding, for resting after a 2021 food coma and just cosying up. It would definitely need to be placed just by the fireplace, with the smell of logfire, sipping on a mug of velvety hot chocolate or a glass of mulled wine — whichever suits your fancy!” Sharon Cheuk Senior Interior Designer

BESPOKE BEAUTIFUL At Ventura the bespoke offering on all the company’s furniture has been pivotal to its phenomenal success, and this trend looks set to grow as customers feel ever more drawn to creating customised and personal interiors rather than making do with a “one size fits all” approach. “With every stitch meticulously handsewn, every table-leg hand-carved and every light hand-sculpted, our workshop is always a hive of activity” explains Arlene McIntryre, the dynamic Creative Director of the Dublin based company who is proud of her recruitment of a team of exceptionally talented artisans and master craftsmen. HISTORIC ROYAL PALACES GREAT MASTERS Paying homage to the master artisans, craftsmen and celebrated monarchs who shaped the six iconic royal residences, which are now cared for by Historic Royal Palaces, Great Masters heralds more than 1,000 years of British heritage. continues to allure and evoke marvel to this day.

www.cole-and-son.com Palace Tales combines three of Historic Royal Palaces’ most significant buildings – the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Palace – representing almost 1,000 years of British royal history. Its whimsical take on a toile scene is made uniquely contemporary by a pictorial hand. Each element makes up the distinctive tapestry of tales that weave the palaces together. The ravens of the Tower can be seen above its keep, protecting the kingdom according to ancient legend. Below the depths of the River Thames can be seen a most unusual sight, a polar bear, kept by Henry III along with lions and other exotic beasts in his Royal Menagerie. The twilight scene of Kensington Palace is framed by the arching branches of Hyde Park, and a fallow deer approaches Hampton Court Palace gardens, reminiscent of the time when it was Henry VIII’s royal hunting ground.

fresco-style design showing the breadth of its inspiration’s talent. The design house creative team of Cole & Son studied the soft light and architectural precision of Antonio Verrio’s masterful hand to produce this striking design.

The design house of Cole & Son took inspiration for each of the collection’s 17 designs from the royal palaces’ magnificent architecture, interiors, collections and gardens, including Hampton Court Palace with its unique mix of Tudor and baroque style, Kensington Palace with its decorative Victorian charm and the imposing Tower of London, filled with intriguing tales of London’s medieval history. With a shared passion for preserving the past, in order to inspire the future, this second collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces celebrates quintessential British history and heritage through Cole & Son’s detailed hand and unparalleled use of colour and pattern. Jean Tijou, French master blacksmith and designer, was commissioned by William III to create a dozen elaborate iron screens for the gardens at Hampton Court Palace. These flamboyant gilded screens with scrolling acanthus leaves became a magnificent backdrop to the grandeur and opulence of the Privy Garden, the King’s private riverside garden, where they still stand today. Painstakingly hand-drawn and hand-painted, Tijou Gate is a wonderfully ornamented panel design of ironwork and florals in bloom.

scene pays homage to the richly woven, intricate tapestries that were known as ‘the mobile frescoes of the North’. These impressive pieces of woven art were a canvas for master weavers’ imaginations, each landscape lavish in fanciful trees and foliage, without the traditional perspective constraints of figurative or narrative tapestries. Translated here by Cole & Son into a sumptuous panel scene, Verdure Tapestry is full of life with its abundance of rich flora and fauna.

FUM: MATTIS BED SYSTEM The Mattis bed by Franchi Umberto Marmi bears the mark of modernity built on research, formal harmony and proportions. Designed by Eugenio Biselli to be the focal point of the sleeping area, it is more like a sculpture than a piece of furniture and features an exclusive, elegant natural stone. The bed conveys the idea of beauty as essential harmony. The bedding project stems from geometry with an original connection between the headboard and the base. The designer conceived the large base of Mattis as if he were an architect or a sculptor.

LALIQUE It is more than 130 years since Rene Lalique founded the company in 1888.

Rene Lalique began his career as a designer working for Cartier and Boucheron and was regarded as the master of jewellery design in the Art Nouveau style. By the 1890s he was making jewellery for celebrities and public figures of the day including Sarah Bernhardt for whom he made jewellery for the stage which is where the word ‘costume jewellery’ derives. His encounter with Francois Coty in 1907 heralded his entry into the world of perfume bottles which led to Rene Lalique working entirely in glass by 1912. In 1935 he opened his boutique in Rue Royale, Paris. Rene Lalique died in 1945 and his son Marc Lalique replaced glass with crystal and raised Lalique’s profile to become the greatest crystal producer in France if not the world. His granddaughter, Marie-Claude Lalique took the helm of the family enterprise in 1977, marrying modernity with tradition.

In 2008, Lalique was acquired by Swiss entrepreneur, Silvio Denz who has ensured continuity in its development, respecting traditional know-how centered on crystal, jewellery, fragrances, home accessories including furniture, lamps and decorative panels and most recently hotels and restaurants – a wide ranging orchestration of the brand’s timeless creations. Today, Lalique represents timeless luxury and the French ‘art of living’. The Lalique universe covers perfume, jewellery, art, hospitality (with its three hotels and restaurants – Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey; Villa Rene Lalique and Chateau Hochberg), decorative items and interior design. It keeps its heritage alive by creating new collections and reinventing classic models in new colours and finishes. Working with other prestigious luxury brands, artists such as Damien Hirst and designers such as the late Zaha Hadid who share the same values and standards of quality using age old techniques and designs in new ways.

NEW FOR 2020 – BOTANICA Nature has always been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Lalique. Founding father, Rene Lalique loved nature above all else and observed it with the upmost care and attention to detail. His creativity and inspiration was also underpinned by the three ‘F’s’: – Femme, Flora and Fauna – all of which are omnipresent in his designs.

The Botanica collection – new for 2020 takes us to a universe where floral romanticism contrasts with mineral strength. Thanks to the talents of its glass artists – many of whom are among the finest craftsmen in France - in the Alsace Factory, Lalique captures the ornamental and symbolic power of peony, lily of the valley, orchid and cherry blossom. Through clear, amber, purple or green crystal sometimes highlighted with enamel or gold, Lalique immortalizes nature and invites us to admire its beauty.

SMANIA, THE MOST MODERN AMONG THE CLASSICS, THE MOST CLASSIC AMONG THE MODERN This is a summary of the concept that emerges from the contemporary nature of the furniture designed and built by the historic Venetian company, leader in the luxury furniture sector.

Smania is manufacturing passion, creative spirit and haute couture of furniture, capable of transforming each piece into a work of art and an icon of craftsmanship. Since 1967, the distinctive character of each designed furniture, the unquestionable know-how in the realization, the use of high quality materials, have led to the progressive affirmation of the company on an international level, giving life to a bold and absolute beauty, found in all his creations. Smania’s strong design identity is based on customer’s personal satisfaction, which is displaved in an eclectic design capable of emphasising the most diverse and distinctive personality trits.

35

The wide range of options offered by the INDOOR collection, through the choice of each material - wood essences, fabrics, leathers, marbles and metals - in fact allows the customization of Smania furniture and can satisfy each Customer taste. In this sartorial flexibility lies the ability to access dexterously and skillfully also to the Contract sector, as well as to the nautical sector, of which Smania knows how to satisfy the specific requests, from the planning to the realization phase. The OUTDOOR collection, on the other hand, constitutes the other major pillar of the brand, with a product that is recognizable for its lines, contemporary and easily combined with both classic and modern contexts, and for the high quality and resistance of the materials used. Precisely this obsessive attention to furniture in all its aspects has led Smania to encourage collaboration over the years with several important designers who have always known how to give a significant creative contribution to the collections. Just think of Giuseppe Viganò, who designed the NEST line, more a philosophy than a collection: based on an extremely dynamic vision of living, it explores the relationship between man and nature, in a dreamy interpretation of contemporary living as an unpublished osmotic balance between interior and exterior, which is expressed through an eclectic and fascinating design, perfectly in line with the classic and modern taste of the brand.

STUNNING CONTEMPORARY STYLE

Wool Classics has been successfully weaving and sourcing carpets and rugs since 1988 and has been the go to source for reliable high quality carpets and rugs for interior designers for decades.

With wool not only in name but also flowing through the veins of the company, this is a business built on the most environmentally friendly fibre available in the interiors industry. Renewable, organic, biodegradable, thermally efficient, sound insulating, non-flammable, soft and protective, wool works like no other product in the home to protect your family and the planet we all live in. Better still Wool Classics uses its base in the Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour to ensure that its colour palette is spot on trend and complimenting the other popular brands in interiors.

Quality is assured throughout the business, but starts at the top with Julian Brinton, whose family has been famous for weaving carpet non-stop for 237 years, although Julian has only worked in the carpet industry for a mere 34 of those years. The rest of the team are trained from the same mould, providing second to none service with a smile and lots of creative flair. Offering over 600 standard range products from stock in the UK plus a full bespoke design service for both rugs and carpets, if you can imagine it we can weave it, there is nothing that Wool Classics cannot provide, so long as it is soft.

In 2020 we have adapted to the new world and continued to supply carpets across the planet despite the pandemic. We take pride in protecting our customers as much as the environment.

As experts in the one field of soft floor-coverings we have not let our focus be distracted by branching out into other product lines. Wood Classics doesn’t have the same ring! Wool Classics operates a fleece to floor mentality, managing every step of the process from wool selection through to installation and everything in between. Alternatively if you are purely looking for supply only we respect every customers needs equally. We can supply throughout the world and have carpeted some of the world’s most famous buildings, no job to big or small or complex, we have done it all before and are ready for the next challenge.

Although generously sized, it was a typical period property with a warren of dark rooms that didn’t suit modern life. The garden was awkward to access and some rooms rarely used. As avid foodies and cooks, the family wanted an open kitchendining area where they could entertain their friends, with plentiful storage and a connection to the garden. Our design team reconfigured the ground floor and added a small rear and side extension to open the space for a huge kitchen and dining area, with a bank of Crittall windows leading to the garden (redesigned by Ruth Willmott).

THE FUTURE OF KITCHEN DESIGN: APPLIANCES IN A DRAWER The design ideas behind Fisher & Paykel appliances are rooted in ergonomics and intuition. Fisher & Paykel strives to be the most human-centered appliance brand in the world and its heritage strongly lies in creating appliances for real life by closely studying the need for functional and practical products in our kitchens and the long-term, future-proofing benefits of these. The brand has championed appliances in drawers since the launch of the very first pioneering DishDrawer™ 20 years ago.

Research shows that 80% of people will suffer from back problems in their life; this is due to our sedentary lifestyles. Being sat in front of a computer can have its toll on our necks and our backs and this worsens with time. Fisher & Paykel is dedicated to creating real products for real people. With a motive to design appliances that are ergonomically orientated around making the lives of homeowners easier, appliances in drawers will become a core feature of the future kitchen design. Fisher & Paykel’s renowned DishDrawer™ and CoolDrawer™ provide an array of functions that make life easier. When placed at bench height, the need to bend down is significantly reduced and there is no longer a need for you to get on your knees to fill the salt, rinse aid or detergent - it is as easy to open as a normal drawer. Helen Haider, Head of Marketing, Fisher & Paykel comments: “People want innovative yet easy to use appliances and at Fisher & Paykel we have developed appliances in drawers to provide our customers with ergonomic products for their kitchen. Modular in their design, the DishDrawer™ and CoolDrawer™ give you the freedom to design a kitchen that is perfectly matched to the way you live. Where dishes can be loaded easily at waist height, placed conveniently under preparation spaces, configured side by side, one atop the other, or distributed around the kitchen to best suit your needs. Our drawer appliances are an innovation born of a deep understanding for the

Fisher & Paykel’s CoolDrawer™

life lived around appliances.

49

THE FIRST DISHWASHER IN A DRAWER Fisher & Paykel’s DishDrawer™ is designed to make cleaning in the kitchen easier. While a conventional dishwasher requires a lot of bending while loading and unloading, the DishDrawer™ eliminates this discomfort with its unique ergonomic design which allows the drawer to easily slide open and closed at waist height. Featuring 15 different wash programs, the DishDrawer™ boasts the ability to wash everything from fine glass and crystal to heavily soiled pans at the touch of a button. The eco option minimises water and energy usage and uses less water than you would do when washing up in a sink. Each drawer holds a true half load for small, fast dish washing that won’t waste water and both drawers can run independently from one another. The sanitise mode kills 99.9% of bacteria when washing dishes – ideal for those cooking meats or fish.

THE MULTITEMPERATURE DRAWER The CoolDrawer™ multi-temperature drawer has been designed to change from refrigerator to freezer at the touch of a button. It is built on the concept of distributed refrigeration, combining ActiveSmart™ technology with a drawer-based design that can be placed anywhere in the kitchen, home or entertainment area. The CoolDrawer™ provides five temperature settings to deliver total flexibility – Freezer, Chill, Fridge, Pantry and Wine modes, merging intelligence with convenience.

WELCOME MARBLE -

GLASS DESIGN PRESENTS FOR THE FIRST TIME THE MARBLE VERSIONS OF THE KOOL, SKYLINE AND XTREME COLLECTIONS MARBLE, natural and so very elegant, enters the Glass Design portfolio, thanks to the company’s extensive research and development into the use of traditional and new generation materials and their application within a bathroom environment. The beauty of marble, a pliable material despite appearances, is captured in the introduction of new editions of KOOL, SKYLINE and XTREME, their aesthetic value being elevated yet further due to the unique nature of every single piece. The peculiarities of marble, such as its colour and vein disparities created by geological events through the ages, allows for products that are truly ‘one of a kind’, with no two basins ever being the same. The choice of Carrara, Calacatta and Nero Marquina has been strategic as much for their elegance as for their relevance in terms of current trends.

53

KOOL The KOOL basin, an iconic Glass Design product, is characterised by an unusual silhouette that slopes forward with an enveloping profile. This shape, as well as providing an elegant furnishing solution, looks impressive in minimalist settings as well as on furniture or tops with a limited projection.

Dimensions: KOOL MAX 540x400 h150mm

SKYLINE The SKYLINE basin is recognisable by the interplay of volumes and transparencies, the result of the exquisite teaming of a solid base – newly available in marble - and sides in 45° bevelled glass in extra-clear or fumè variations. Dimensions: SKYLINE L 496X346 h120mm / SKYLINE XL 645X347 h120mm

XTREME The XTREME basin, round in form, assumes an even greater visual impact in its new marble base version. The simplicity of the rim, mouth-blown, is testimony to the timeless artisanal craftsmanship synonymous with Glass Design and associated with the Made In Italy phenomenon.

THINK DESIGN THINK HOMAPAL Over the years, hardly any other material has proven its worth in interior design to the extent in which the laminate has done. Looks, feel and function are combined to get the interplay of elements into all-embracing spatial concepts in a way that couldn‘t be more natural.

Above all, it has always been the genuine- metal coated laminates and magnetic boards that are associated with the HOMAPAL name. Yet behind the scenes in Herzberg, many more variations of this modern material are created and produced.

CULTURE IN ARCHITECTURE - JULES VERNE

Aline Asmar d’Amman accompanies the group Sodexo (Umanis) to redesign the new interior of the iconic restaurant Le Jules Verne, located on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower.

Her design studio, Culture in Architecture, and Michelin-starred chef, Frédéric Anton, bring this gastronomic venue into a new era, where the culinary and decorative arts embrace the femininity and admiration of the legendary “Iron Lady”, whilst fusing a precious bond between the interlacing streets of Paris as seen from the sky, the lavish legacy and history of the 1900s and the timeless modernity of the French elegance.

“I imagine the Jules Verne to become a manifesto of French chic; a state of mind, synonym of a certain classicism, combined with a slight irreverence. The Tower is an embodiment of a balance between industrial aesthetics and high metal workmanship. The graphic and refined culinary aesthetic of chef Frederic Anton, who himself advocates the femininity of his cuisine, is a whimsical inspiration for the holistic décor. Our fusional exchanges between the plate and the décor are closely imbued in every material, volume, colour scheme, light and details of the Jules Verne, reflecting the emotion of the place ” “My goal is to invite for elegance and attitude at the Jules Verne restaurant through contemporary decorative arts and the broad talent of French artists. To weave links between space and taste making the guests participates in a unique cultural conversation between the decorative and culinary arts of the 21st century and this timeless masterpiece, a symbol of the French spirit, Photo credit: Stephan Julliard

the Eiffel Tower.” – quotes by Aline Asmar d’Amman

Aline Asmar d’Amman is the architect and interior designer behind Culture in Architecture, a design studio based in Beirut and Paris. It was founded in 2011, with a deep belief in the power of beauty to elevate the soul and create joyful memories of places, in the fields of architecture, interior, furniture design and artistic direction. Culture in Architecture has an array of international projects ranging from high end residential to luxury hospitality and bespoke furniture. Recent projects include the art direction of Hôtel de Crillon’s renovation, a collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld on his ‘Grand Apartments’ decor, the interior design of the palace’s historical salons and signature suites. Seeking spaces with an intense resonance, Culture in Architecture cultivates narrative statements born from intricate dialogs between the raw and the precious, with a specific attention to the use of primary stones and handcrafted materials combining heritage with innovation and borrowing constant inspiration from the art and fashion world to every creative expression. Culture in Architecture believes in bridging cultures and their knowhow with a forward-thinking re-interpreting the past to the future.

MODERN HORTICULTURE RANGE CONTEMPORARY DESIGN Greenhouse ownership is becoming far more diverse and the image of greenhouse gardening is changing, ushering in additional, less traditional consumers. moment but is also being driven by a more design led approach to gardening in general. An increasing number of greenhouse owners are seeing the value of displaying their colourful and intricate plants in structures that offer cleaner lines and larger windows. Hartley Botanic launched their Magnum Opus Glasshouse at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, 2019, due to a marked new demand for a Modern Horticulture range, which offers customers cleaner lines and concealed engineering. There is definitely a sense that the appreciation homeowners had for design inside their homes is now moving into their gardens too. Their greenhouses may have a functional purpose, but customers also have a very clear design aesthetic with contemporary and architectural styles

Who stays here? A couple/family? This is a pied-a-terre for a couple that live in Australia. Their daughter who lives in New York takes residence in the apartment and her parents stay there when they visit. What home type is this? How many rooms, and size in sqf? Sq ft: 1400sqft Bedrooms: 1 Bathrooms: 2 What was the inspiration/brief? Our client was clear on their design intent, looking to achieve something that was timeless with soft colors and subtle textures;

490 CAMBRIA NY

they did not want anything that felt too fussy or precious but rather a livable space that invited a reprise from long travel and a home where they could “put their feet up”. The couple loves classic modern elements, which include inspiration from Jean Michel Frank and the Bauhaus. Can you elaborate on the design of the bedroom, bathrooms and kitchen (as well as the seating/settee area with the glass panels) Kitchen: The strongest design move in the apartment is the glass surround of the kitchen. This architectural feature makes the apartment feel much larger than it is and provides division of space while allowing natural light to reach both the kitchen and the entry. Within the kitchen, we created an eat-in breakfast nook with a custom built-in floating banquette. We used indoor/outdoor fabrics by Link for the pillows and seat cushion for their durability and ease of maintenance/cleaning. Bedroom: this room is enveloped in one tone and color – a soft silver grey with white accents. We upholstered the bed wall using the same wool sateen by Rogers & Goffigon as is used for the drapery. The silver-grey wall-towall carpet (from Vanden Loom) has a subtle strié effect. We used high gloss lacquer on the closet doors and matched this same finish and color for the bedside tables and chest of drawers. The monochromatic approach to this room creates a very calming effect.

Bathoom: The bathroom is designed with white glassos and a custom white corian shower with Dornbracht fittings. It is modern, highly functional and easily cleaned/maintained. What is the colour palette, and why did you choose it? The palette was quiet and neutral, with rich textures that include bouclé, velvet, wool and cerused wood. We did not want anything ‘loud’ or that made a strong statement, but instead for the apartment to feel harmonious and unified in its palette. How does the design of this apartment reflect the homeowners’ personalities and living habits? Some of the elements in this apartment are also features of their home in Australia, which lends itself to a feeling of familiarity. We listened to our client’s needs and aspirations and made certain we handed over an easy living space that prioritizes comfort and functionality. Space planning strategies We kept the layout of the apartment as it was, but creating the surrounding glass wall of the kitchen changed the entire apartment, both modernizing it and giving a sense of lightness and openness. We designed a unique storage component which spans the kitchen and the dining room, with drawers on either side. It also doubles as a work surface on the kitchen side, and a place to lay out food on the dining side.

Storage strategies In New York City, every inch of space counts. We did our best to take advantage

CICLOITALIA FLEX CicloItalia Flex defines the new phase of an evolutionary process that began back in 1989 with the unique story of the Ciclocina lamp. At the end of the eighties, Enzo Catellani brought back some exclusive bicycle lamps from one of his trips to the Orient, turning them into one of the timeless icons of Catellani & Smith, the Ciclocina lamp. The distinctive headlamp as a bridge between oriental culture and the wisdom of Italian savoir-faire is still the distinguishing concept of the new lamps, now enhanced by a brass flex and a new ‘branching element’ at the base of the spotlight. Two elements that not only personalise and shape the configuration of the lamp but also enable the light to be pointed in many directions, creating a ‘flexible’ solution that can be adapted to meet all lighting requirements. CicloItalia Flex is available into wall and floor versions as well as in the C6 ceiling lamp, with six flex that rise from a cylindrical base, unwinding into a ‘dance’ suspended in the air.
