GUCCI VALIGERIA AT THE SAVOY The House inaugurates an ephemeral space dedicated to travel at the storied hotel, continuing an ongoing narrative that began over a century ago.

Gucci has inaugurated an ephemeral space dedicated to its world of travel entitled Gucci Valigeria inside London’s The Savoy hotel. It is precisely in travel that Gucci finds its origins, as part of a story that began in the late 1800s when a young Guccio Gucci journeyed to London and worked as a porter at The Savoy, the go-to destination for the international jet set. There, he came into contact with the magic of travel that, at the time, was synonymous with discovery, discussion, study, and a bridge between diverse cultures.

It was a time in which traveling signified experience, displacing the certainties of one’s social environment, a pursuit of the unexpected, of a will to encounter and to know. Inspired by his observations of the guests and the beautiful items that accompanied them, Guccio returned to Florence and founded his own artisanal luggage atelier in 1921. The Gucci Valigeria space at The Savoy showcases a curated selection from Gucci’s travel offering including trunks, trolleys, duffle bags, suitcases, garment bags, and other smaller items, many of which are part of the heritage-infused Gucci Savoy collection, featured in the recently revealed campaign featuring Ryan Gosling. Also displayed are pieces from the Gucci Lifestyle line, ranging from travel sets and stationery to pet accessories.

The space continues an ongoing collaborative narrative, which also saw the transformation of The Savoy’s Royal Suite with furniture, furnishings, and decorative items from the Gucci Décor collection in celebration of the House’s centennial in 2021, speaking to an imaginative vision that highlights the intrinsic connection between creativity and travel, and the desire to explore and to discover.

The high-profile design project was commissioned by a senior partner in an international investment firm headquartered in New York City and his wife, a Montrealer. The couple chose Montreal as the foundation of a life of international travel while providing a stable base for their children to attend school in Montreal. As avid art collectors, the couple envisioned a curation of their worldly art aggregation – including works by Jean-Paul Riopelle, Jim dine, Damien Hirst, Francesco Vezzoli, and Canadian First Nations artist Kent Monkman, amongst many others - within the warm embrace of their home’s heritage elements. “The clients have exquisite tastes, and they understand that the dialogue of art transcends the simplicity of just matching colors,” explains Martha Franco, founder of the firm bearing her name. “We embarked on the project with that prominently in mind, while defining a distinct character for each space in their home and designing transitions to connect them all together.”

Minute detailing includes custom-upholstered walls throughout the home that is consistent with traditional design but infused with fresh spectacular Italian fabric with a rich texture that captures light in a variety of different ways. Maggiore Project M is an exclusive project to relive the fantastic 80s with the most modern technology and the finest materials. A perfect mix of Heritage, Design, Technology, and Italian Style to create unique and totally customizable pieces, like a tailored suit.

Only 40 cars will be produced, all following the wishes of each customer. M like Maggiore, but also M like Magnum P.I., the iconic series tv where Tom Selleck shared the show with his amazing Ferrari 308, a car with a soul and with an unmistakable line which can survive through the ages.

The project is a genuine “tribute”, not in the sense of nostalgia but rather giving new life to cars that in time might have been relegated to museums or closed in the garages of collectors. A modern reinterpretation of an iconic star of 80s, using the best technology and a deep attention to Heritage and Design.


The donor car is a real Ferrari 308 and the starting point are the original chassis and the original engine, but then all the parts have been completely re-Designed and re-built to guarantee reliability and performance of these days with a vintage allure.

The Engine has been rebuilt by Italtecnica, a well-known Italian company specialized in racing and special projects. 400 HP for 1200kg, with a manual shift to change gears and without electronic controls....Driving pleasure is guaranteed!

The body is completely realized in carbon fiber to reduce the weight, all the mechanical components have been upgraded or re-Designed and the interiors have been refreshed with high end materials, such as leather, carbon fiber and marble, a touch of our roots and a sign of our customization program. The research into the materials and colours to use was carried out by the Studio Stefan Scholten, a Design studio based in Amsterdam with many Italian influences. It was precisely this union of modern Northern European design commingling with Italian culture and Mediterranean styles that inspired us to choose this studio as partner for the development of this project. There will not exist 2 cars with the same specs! The internal components of the engine are all new, the suspensions are made of lightweight aluminum alloy, a new Brembo brake system and bigger alloy wheels. The aim of Automobili Maggiore was to put the driver back at the center of the stage, that’s why you can find a manual gearbox and a high rev natural aspirated engine ready to go up to 8000 rpm.

One of the things I noticed about the i4 is that it’s very smooth, not just in the driving performance but when you work your way around the car and get to know the ins and outs of it all everything does its job very well. The i4 is excellent to drive – I was expecting the handling to give me some issues when heading out in the lanes but it surprised me with a ludicrous amount of grip and you could put a lot of trust into the car on each turn. The i4 is very comfortable when driving at any speed and knowing that can access a bucket load of instant torque at any moment just gives you a feeling of enjoyment that you get from other models in the M series.

Compared to conventional electric cars the M50 is insanely quick when accelerating and the simulated engine sound is pretty impressive. It gives the motoring and M car purest some revs and growls that you’d get from the other cars in the M series. Something I instantly noticed about the i4 is that unlike a lot of other brands they have not gone for a super futuristic space look which is something I was very pleased about. Sometimes with other manufacturers, you can drive their newest electric model and they lose all their history and essence but with the i4 you just knew every second that it was a BMW and it made the whole experience so much more enjoyable.

“The whole concept is based on the premise that the owners have their own residence and there is a separate guest house for friends and visitors,” says Peder Eidsgaard, co-founder of Harrison Eidsgaard. “The idea is that the owners can spend weeks on board in full privacy, but also interact with their guests in the Ocean Lounge in the middle of the boat.”

As befits any explorer yacht, the large tenders are stowed on the open deck above the Ocean Lounge under the Glass Bridge. In fact, there is space for two 13.5-metre tenders with no height restrictions.
