Our panels are made up of two 11mm OSB/3 sheaths sandwiching a PU (Polyurethane) core. Using a PU core means that the OSB/3 sheaths are chemically bonded together producing a panel that is 3 times stronger than brick.

The OSB/3 facings are responsibly sourced and the PU insulation core has an ozone depletion potential (OPD) rating of zero and also has a low global warming potential (GWP). The high strength to weight ratio of SIP panels allows large sections of your building to be fitted at once, speeding up the time required on site. Offsite fabrication reduces waste and helps reduce embodied and transport energy.

WARMER Our PU SIPs have a high-density polyurethane core creating a closed cell structure this give the SIP panels its phenomenally high insulation values. We ‘press’ various depth of SIP panel so can meet most thermal requirements. Our Extension Kitz Wall System will give you a ‘U’ Value of 0.15 finished with Brick Slips or Render, whilst a composite Cladding finish is 0.16. If it’s a flat roof system that is required our Orangery Kitz flat roof will return 0.09 ‘U’ Value.

MODERN CHARM AT OAKLANDS The renovation of a house in three acres in the Norfolk countryside Nestled in the heart of the Norfolk countryside, surrounded by lush woodland and open skies, Oaklands Garden is a striking example of how a thoughtful renovation can breathe new life into an older property. The house, a 1980s farmhouse situated on three acres of land, had been left untouched for decades and was in need of a complete overhaul when its current owners, Abi and her husband, took it on.

Abi recalls, “It had nothing done to it since the 1980s. Everything— from the interiors to the external features—was dated, tired, and in some places, even dilapidated. We knew when we bought it that this would be a full renovation project.

We completely gutted it, knocked down internal walls to create a more open-plan feel, and bricked up some windows that no longer worked with the new layout. In the process, we ended up with some blank exterior spaces that needed a creative solution.”

Given the house’s location, nestled among tall trees and dense greenery, the couple was also cautious about the type of materials they used on the exterior. “We didn’t want to render the whole building,” Abi explains. “With the trees surrounding us, we were concerned that full render might discolour over time from things like moss, damp, or tree sap. So, we needed a façade that would look good, stand the test of time, and be easy to maintain.”

It was a recommendation from their plastering team that eventually led Abi and her husband to discover Cedral facades. “Our plasterers had used Cedral on several previous projects and spoke highly of it,” Abi says. “They knew we were struggling to find the right finish for the exterior, and when they showed us samples of Cedral, we instantly saw the potential. It offered us the flexibility we needed, both aesthetically and practically.”

They chose Cedral Click in C18 Slate Grey, a colour that blends beautifully with both the natural setting and the existing brickwork.

“We used it on select areas of the

house to break up the render and to cover some of the old, untidy brickwork. It really helped us achieve that characterful look we were going for,” Abi explains.

The result is a harmonious combination of textures and tones.

“Cedral gave us that traditional farmhouse feel, that country look we really wanted,” Abi adds. “It doesn’t look out of place here in the countryside. It looks like it belongs.”

Beyond aesthetics, one of the biggest draws for the couple was the low-

maintenance aspect of Cedral. Living in a rural location, they were keen to avoid finishes that would require regular upkeep. “We have enough on our hands with the land and the garden,” Abi laughs. “Knowing the exterior cladding wouldn’t need constant care or repainting was a big bonus.”

Now fully renovated, Oaklands Garden stands as a beautiful example of how modern materials like Cedral can be used to preserve the charm and integrity of a rural property while giving it a fresh, updated look. The house not only suits its natural surroundings, but also reflects the owners’ personal style and practical needs. The panel, made up of industry leaders from businesses and academic institutions, recognised that Bell’s excellent record of customer satisfaction and its consideration of all aspects of the retrofit journey has set it apart from other contractors.

Run by the UK’s leading retrofit training and membership organisation, the awards are designed to recognise the best the retrofit industry has to offer and celebrate those blazing the trail for retrofit in the UK. In this category, the judges were looking for evidence that entrants were consistently delivering high-quality, large-scale PAS 2035 compliant projects, responding to challenging timescales while maintaining excellent levels of customer service and embracing innovation to help raise standards and increase delivery.

The judges commented that Bell’s entry “shows the desire to push boundaries and takes into consideration every part of a retrofit journey for all stakeholders”. They also commended Bell’s high performance KPIs for customer satisfaction and the repeat business they receive. Investment that allows the company to carry out all the work for retrofit projects in-house was also noted, combined with the necessary internal upskilling to get the best out of employees. All of these factors helped ensure Bell was able to differentiate its strategy from competitors and secure this prestigious prize.

STRONG START TO 2025 Quality QI sees Pexhurst complete jobs worth almost £15m Martin Vella, managing director at Pexhurst, said: “After receiving several instructions in the late stages of 2024, we knew it was set to be a busy and exciting start to the year here at Pexhurst. Our team has kicked off 2025 with impressive results, completing several projects that have satisfied our clients and exhibited our many strengths.

Leading fit out and refurbishment contractor Pexhurst has concluded a successful first quarter having completed several refurbishment projects across multiple sectors, with a combined value of almost £15m.

The completed schemes supported clients in the contractors’ two key sectors, industrial and logistics and office refurbishments, with geographic coverage across the South East and Midlands.

At 300,000 sq ft, Pexhurst’s help with Logicor’s ongoing estate regeneration at Paddock Wood Distribution Centre in Tonbridge held the leading spot for project value and size. This completion means that Pexhurst has now completed work on site worth more than £6m since 2020, with the latest scheme overcoming live sites complexities meaning that tenants did not have to pause their operations.

Similarly demonstrating the scale and quality of Pexhurst’s delivery in the industrial and logistics sector was the 157,000 sq ft scheme completed for Prologis in Daventry, also proving an important project by supporting Pexhurst’s expansion into the Midlands market.

INDUSTRIAL PAST MEETS CULTURAL FUTURE AT BEIJING’S 751 LIBRARY Do Union Architecture Beijing 751 Library/ DO UNION. Do Union designed the 751 library that integrates with the industrial remains. The 751-798 Art District is the largest art district in China, and the main venue for Beijing Fashion Week and Design Week. Established in the 1950s with aid from East Germany, it originally housed a massive electronics component factory. The 751 Library is located at the end of 798 Road, the main road within the district, facing the Locomotive Plaza. The original site was a residual ash- washing pool from the factory, with a crane above for transporting coal ash.

After 2010, the ash-washing pool and crane ceased operations, and the site was closed off, interrupting the continuous 300-meter-long active commercial interface of 798 Street leading to the Locomotive Plaza.

The new library is part of the revitalization of the Locomotive Plaza. It aims to create a climax for the entire district by introducing new buildings, diverse business formats, and thoroughly open public spaces against the backdrop of old industrial relics. The library’s site boundary coincides with the original outline of the coalwashing pool, and it is fully open on all sides, creating a harmonious interplay with the surrounding industrial remnants, such as the coal conveyors, boilers, tracks, overhead cranes, and locomotives.

The building primarily serves as a library function, but it is also a multi- purpose cultural complex with cultural forums, conferences, and coffee and dining facilities. It has two floors above ground and one below.

The facade features continuous fair-faced concrete arches that contrast with the rough industrial remnants of the neighborhood.

A preserved overhead crane is integrated into the building, creating a unique architectural image and interacting with the roof-shaped space through its movement. The

glass curtain wall and large skylights introduce the spectacular outdoor industrial landscape into the interior, while forming reflections with the building facade, creating a wonderful spatial dialogue. The interior design aims to maximize spatial openness by opening up half of the ground floor, creating a three-story, nearly fully transparent space. The rich industrial landscape outside penetrates into the interior to the maximum extent, reorganized within a compact space to produce an unexpected dramatic effect.

What’s certainly true is that we don’t believe there’s any such thing as the end of a design journey. No matter how groundbreaking, no matter how many awards we win, there’s always something we can rethink, adjust, improve. There’s no ‘game over’ in pursuit of perfection. When it comes to innovation and improvement, we hold our hands up. We’re obsessed.

So yes, we’ve done it again. We’ve added another product to the HES range. The HES2­150 is just the lat­ est chapter in a success story that now stretches back 30 years.

From that one moment of inspiration, we’ve spun out a whole product range. Nowadays, there’s an HES hinge for practically every architec­ tural application, from cabinets of all sizes to interior and partition doors.

And still we keep going.

Simplicity and choice The HES2 model is a relative new­ comer to the range and already it’s an award­winner. The tinkering we did this time was to simplify instal­ lation.

For all the aesthetic and functional benefits of the original HES design, it came at a cost. Door hanging is tricky at the best of times. With the original HES models, you had to mortise both the door and the frame or cabinet panel.

Striking Design Gold Many businesses would have been more than content to rest on their laurels after striking design gold with the HES3D all those years ago. It’s not often you reimagine an entire product concept. But by engineer­

The HES2 halves the job. The door still has to be mortised to create the recess for the hinge parts to tuck into, so everything is hidden from sight when the door is shut. But the hinge separates into two parts. Once the door plates are installed, the oth­ er half of the HES2 is surface mount­ ed on the jamb or cabinet interior.

We provide templates for pre­drilling the frame in the right place. The frame plate is clipped into the door plate before being screwed onto the frame.

Once mounted, adjustment screws allow for vertical and depth alignment of up to 3mm for a perfect finish.

The surface mounting on the frame also means that the HES2 can also be fitted to slim framed or even frameless doors where there is not enough wood to mortise into.

The rationale for the new HES2­150 was to extend this to thinner doors as well. Our latest HES concealed hinge is designed for doors 35mm in thickness and upwards. A pair of hinges can support doors up to 40kg in weight, and three hinges can hold doors up to 50kg.

As well surface mounting, hinge separation and 3D adjustment post installation, the HES2­150 is also non­handed, meaning it can be mounted for either left or right­hand opening doors.

Another HES product, another win for simplicity and choice. It’s what gets us out of bed in the morning.

A BOLD RENOVATION JOURNEY From derelict clubhouse to dream home In July 2020, while the UK was deep in lockdown, Caroline, a GP, and her partner made an unconventional move: they bought a crumbling former Conservative Club. While much of the UK was retreating into comfort and playing safe, this couple saw potential in a building that had been abandoned for more than 15 years.

The property, originally built in 1834, was purchased for £210,000. It had long since ceased functioning as a social hub and had fallen into disrepair. But to Caroline and her partner, it offered the space and character that modern homes often lack. What followed was a handson, often chaotic renovation, with the couple doing most of the work themselves, all while raising four children

“I didn’t even know you could buy ex-display kitchens, so coming across The Used Kitchen Company when we were searching for our dream kitchen on a budget was a real discovery.

The investment included a kitchen, which they installed themselves, sourcing a stylish ex-display Wren kitchen from The Used Kitchen Company. The oak worktops lend a rustic, timeless feel, and they paid just £5,000 for it, saving them thousands in the process.

“We didn’t want to lose the building’s character,” Caroline explains. “We tried to keep as much of the original as we could, and made sure anything we added

“The ex-display Wren kitchen fitted perfectly with the vision we had for the renovation. We wanted a traditional style to blend with the character of the house, but with a contemporary touch.

“The kitchen strikes that balance beautifully and has become the heart of our home. The island not only shapes the room but also provides the perfect space for the kids to hang out while we cook or do their homework.”

One of the most exciting discoveries came early on, when they pulled up some old flooring and found a set of original pavement lights, thick glass bricks once used to allow sunlight into the basement. “We were amazed when we found them,”

says Caroline. “They date back to the 1880s. You just don’t expect to find something like that hidden under the floorboards.”

Those pavement lights now form a striking feature, casting dappled natural light into the basement below. And their discoveries didn’t end there. Just a few weeks before they moved in, they uncovered a set of old steps at the back of the property that had been covered up for decades.

The house’s former life as a Conservative Club is still very much present in its layout and features.

The current kitchen was once a bar and function room known as The Primrose Room, named after Primrose Day, a nod to traditional Tory symbolism. While the original bar and carpet didn’t make the cut, Caroline and her partner have preserved many period details, blending them seamlessly with practical, modern upgrades.

In place of the old bar now stands the heart of the home, the kitchen centred around a reconditioned Aga, which cost £3,300 The family moved into the property in March 2021, even though the renovation was still ongoing. The project continues and despite the challenges of both the renovation itself and juggling the project with full-time work and family life, the results have been more than worth it. The property, once abandoned and unloved, is now valued at around £550,000, But for Caroline, it’s not just about the money made “This house has history, and now it has a story too.

As they continue to bring the building back to life, room by room, they’re not just creating a home but preserving a piece of history. The echoes of The Primrose Room and the generations before them are now interwoven with the sounds of a busy family life and dinner sizzling on the Aga, with the dogs hopeful for any dropped titbits.

Designed and made in the UK British design and craftsmanship continue to set the standard, with a selection of brands highlighting their excellence in design and manufacturing. Joining CDW at Platform, AH HA Project will unveil its first product range, inspired by the natural contours of geological formations. Spanning mirrors, side tables and desk accessories, each piece is crafted from Valchromat – a high-density wood fibre panel made from recycled pine wood and mill waste, coloured throughout with organic dyes and bonded with non-toxic resin. These pieces are machine-carved and hand-finished in the UK by the studio’s founders.

SPIRAL CELLARS DELIVERS LUXURY WINE STORAGE Spiral Cellars Custom designed with room with 3rd party manufacture and installation We were contacted by a Buckinghamshire based client with regards to providing wine storage for a newly acquired second property.

The intention was that this property would become his main residence, but before that could happen, the impressive Victorian building would need major renovation work. Part of this would include the provision of wine storage in which to house the client’s liquid assets.

In order to ensure delivery of professional level cellaring conditions in a residential setting, the client was adamant that a specialist cellaring company should manage this aspect of the build,

Equally important was creating an elegant interior feature that was in keeping with the traditional feel of the property.

After discussing the size and nature of the clients existing wine collection and anticipated future growth, a 600 bottle cellar capacity was agreed upon. The assumption was that the bottles would be mostly Bordeaux and Burgundy, though a small allowance should

We met with the client, his architect and his contractor at the property before any building work had begun.

With plans still at the early stage, we were able to suggest several possible locations that would work with the flow of the house. Whilst the property was substantial in size, the client did not want to dedicate an entire room to wine storage.

Various options were discussed before agreeing upon a space-saving, high-capacity wine wall as the best solution – to be situated at the end of a long hallway in what would eventually become a home office.

Working with Spiral Cellars plans was a joy.

The materials I received were so thorough I was able to pass them directly to the production team without any questions.

3rd party involvement We advised that rather than commission our fully bespoke end-to-end service, a more costefficient model would be to engage our Custom Design team to handle the design element (thereby ensuring the key objective of delivering cellaring conditions be met) but then engage a third party to manufacture and install.

Operating in this manner would deliver a significant overall cost saving of between 20-30%. Leessa London, a bespoke joinery firm were thus engaged.

The installation Upon final design approval, a comprehensive set of technical plans were prepared to hand over to Leessa to craft and install.

Included within the package was everything Leessa would need to successfully complete the wine wall – plus of course, they had regular access to the Spiral Cellars Design team for advice and clarification: • Concept visuals • Material specifications • M&E requirements • Technical drawings • Climate control and vapour barrier specifications After just 6 weeks, and following a final check by ourselves, the client was able to start moving wine in to his beautiful new wine space.

Renovation and innovation: upgrading CERP Rhin Rhône Méditerranée’s warehouses for enhanced efficiency

CERP Rhin Rhône Méditerranée is an historic company in the Belfort territory, with more than 100 years of existence in the east of France, still serving community pharmacists.

Today, the pharmaceutical distribution activity maintains the same territorial approach: CERP has 56 distribution sites, strategically located in the heart of the French territory, thus guaranteeing a responsive and efficient service to

pharmacists. The renovation project for the five warehouses presents several challenges, from the current condition of the membranes, which are now outdated, to the particularities of each warehouse (all buildings have different square footage). In addition, for some warehouses the re-roofing projects also involve the installation of photovoltaic systems.

The main focus was on enhancing the thermal performance of these warehouses, which is crucial for maintaining controlled temperatures essential for storing pharmaceuticals.

The project of the renovation of the roof of the company’s warehouse in Colmar was designed by the renowned architect Pierre Brugnoni of HBI & HÊTRE architecture who recommended a transition from the outdated bitumen membrane to advanced cool roof solutions for the covering of the 2,800 sqm area.

The main focus was on enhancing the thermal performance of these warehouses, which is crucial for maintaining controlled temperatures essential for storing pharmaceuticals. The Colmar warehouse, the first of five to undergo transformation, set the stage with an upgrade to RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products’ state-of-the-art Bright membrane.

The trainer came to our premises and enabled us to have a team of welders capable of making such area”, he adds.

UNIFOLD® A custom designed solution Over 400 metres of the Unifold® Gutter lining system was installed on London’s iconic venue, The Royal Albert Hall, throughout the summer of 2023.

The Unifold® Gutter Lining System was chosen for its versatility, unfailing ability to replicate existing systems and its long life.

Following a survey by Ampteam personnel, along with Saper Glass Industries Limited, a design solution was provided for the gutters and samples were sent to test fit the Unifold® gutter lining within the gutter cavity, as the throat dimension varied considerably across the profiles.

All runs of the gutter were manufactured to suit the curved nature of the dome which roofs the Hall, and to fit within the minimal throat dimension between the glazing and glazing bars, meaning that bespoke faceted and cranked joint plates were provided so that the new Unifold® lining could follow the profile of the existing gutter.

Full site information was provided including laying sequences, special details and instructions with each delivery of the system.

Ampteam were partnered by Approved Installer, Saper Glass Industries Limited and Faithorn Farrell Timms as contract administrator, and their input and expertise, along with comprehensive discussions throughout, enabled a successful installation of the Unifold® system.

Following installation of the Unifold® every Unifold® gutter run was water tested by flooding the gutter from the top of the run(s) via hose, with additional assistance from the poor weather, and no leaks were detected in any of the installed gutter runs.

LUCENT SQUARE INSTALLS EVACGO - FOR SAFER, SMARTER EVACUATION MANAGEMENT Lucent Square, a new residential development in Leeds, has been equipped with Advanced’s EvacGo evacuation alert system to enhance resident safety and ensure compliance with the BS 8629 Code of Practice.

Covering 54 apartments across six floors, the system features a standalone EvacGo panel located at the main entrance and provides fire and rescue services with a reliable method of alerting residents in an emergency. As part of the fire strategy for the development, the installation of an evacuation alert system was a key requirement to ensure the highest levels of safety.
