The house draws its name from the original farmstead that once graced this site, a collection of quaint agricultural structures that, over time, had fallen into disrepair and no longer met modern standards.

The four volumes are separated into two distinct groupings, splaying outward to maximise panoramic views of the stunning landscape. The arrangement floods the home with natural light, creating a seamless connection between the interior and the vast scenery beyond. A small glazed link at the centre of the design serves as both a unifying element and the property's main entrance. As visitors arrive, the link offers a preview of the sweeping vistas, providing a serene introduction to the home's warm, welcoming interior. Expansive glazing throughout the house frames uninterrupted views of the South Downs, where the changing seasons constantly transform the landscape. Every aspect of the home is designed to immerse its inhabitants in the surrounding natural beauty, with each room serving as a portal to the ever-evolving outdoor environment.

SHEFFIELD WITH A VIEW A FIRST LOOK INSIDE THE CITY’S COOLEST ROOFTOP APARTMENTS Social impact developer Capital&Centric has revealed new images of the two rooftop apartments in their converted Grade II listed Eyewitness Works.

Set on top of the 1950s annex of the former cutlery works, the two-bed apartments will set renters back £2000 a month, but with their own private rooftop terraces boasting stunning views across the city they’re set to be snapped up quickly. Inside, the restored floor-to-ceiling windows flood the rooms with natural light giving way to the private balconies, whilst the spacious interiors are given a modern edge with HAY furniture, a collection of high-quality, sustainable Scandi pieces. In the bedrooms, skylights create a unique atmosphere on a clear night and add to the contemporary feel. The historic Grade II listed works on the city’s Milton Street has been restored into a mix of one-, two- and three-bed apartments, duplexes and townhouses, with the redbrick 1852 building retaining all the historic features and charm of the original, but with a distinct contemporary overhaul for the design conscious.

Eyewitness Works is located in Sheffield’s Devonshire Quarter, just a stone’s throw from Devonshire Green. It is the first chapter of plans to transform the area into the 15 acre Mesters’ Village, with over 2,500 homes, makers spaces, café bars, delis and a school. The company has reimagined the area setting out a plan for how it could develop over the next five to 10 years.

FLUSHING NON-FLUSHABLE ITEMS THE IMPACT ON INFRASTRUCTURE As architects, builders, and property developers, understanding the implications of flushing nonflushable items is crucial for sustainable design and construction. Flushing inappropriate products can lead to severe consequences for our sewer systems, wastewater treatment facilities, and septic systems, ultimately impacting the health of our environment and communities. INCREASING STRAIN ON SEWER AND DRAINAGE SYSTEMS Despite significant investments in infrastructure, our sewer and drainage systems are becoming increasingly strained. The growing population contributes to a rising volume of waste entering these systems. Research by the Marine Conservation Society reveals that between 1.5 billion and 2 billion sanitary items—including tampons, nappies, and wipes—are flushed each year. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for solutions that can alleviate pressure on our infrastructure.

THE TRAP TUBE

Accessed via an existing inspection chamber, the trap tube is ideal for retro-fitting in drainage systems that are already live. The trap tube has a tapered shape so it is easily removed and replaced using the supplied cable or rod. As with the trap box, the trap tube filters the drainage flow, allowing only natural waste and toilet paper to pass through. Both the trap box and the trap tube are easy to empty.

HALEBROWN ARCHITECTS

Hale Brown Architects were asked to design a 4no. bedroom family home on a farmland site, situated within the Green Belt and on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Surrey.

Underfloor heating fed by an air source heat pump and mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery also provides a consistently comfortable, low energy and healthy internal environment.

The site was occupied by three, windowless timberframed barns arranged in a courtyard formation varying from approximately 100 to 300 years old. Having been extensively altered and adapted during their lifetime, the barns had come to the end of their serviceable use as part of the ongoing farm operations. The client brief was therefore to convert the barns into a private house, that complemented its unique rural setting and to take advantage of the stunning countryside views.

A new extension link acts as a modern cloister defining a new central south-facing private courtyard. Additional new extensions link the original barn volumes further to create a single series of spaces designed to complement modern open-plan living.

Due to significant structural issues and after extensive discussions with the local planning authority, it was agreed the barns would have to be reconstructed, rather than refurbished. This reconstruction has allowed for modern construction methods and improved envelope build-ups to be utilised, resulting in a significantly better performing building envelope, which will have lower CO2 emissions over its life span.

Externally, sustainable black-stained larch cladding is set out horizontally on the historic volumes and vertically on the modern extensions to make the new volumes legible. On the roofs, traditional red clay tiles reflect the materiality of the original barns and local vernacular architecture. Internally, the cloister incorporates a series of oak-lined windows and doors that create a well-lit, airy circulation spaces with visual connections to the central planted courtyard. The main open-plan living space also features large glass sliding doors to enable inside/outside living. Around the house, large rooflights and windows are carefully positioned to maximise daylight penetration into rooms, while also framing views of the surrounding countryside. A new oak staircase provides a feature link between floors lit from a rooflight above and sets the tone for the simple material palette replicated throughout the house. THE ENDURING APPEAL OF HERRINGBONE FLOORS This luxury contemporary replacement home in Essex, designed by Ström Architects, invites you into its entrance quadrant, characterised by a striking long stone wall that seamlessly connects clerestory glazing with a floating overhanging roof.

Herringbone wood flooring has a distinctive zig-zag pattern. Created from wooden pieces cut in perfect rectangles, the blocks are staggered so the end of one board meets the side of another producing a repeated, tessellated pattern.

It’s also an excellent ‘zoning tool’; by changing the direction of the pattern, introducing another style of herringbone or introducing another laying pattern entirely, you can subtly define and demarcate different areas of an open-plan space.

But the advantages of herringbone aren’t limited to the aesthetic. The interlocking pattern of the blocks laid at opposing angles inherently creates a more stable floor structure compared to straight planks. This interlock distributes stress and minimizes movement. The way the ends of the blocks meet the sides of adjacent blocks creates a stronger mechanical interlock at the joints, contributing to the floor's overall robustness. The busy pattern can be more forgiving at concealing minor subfloor irregularities or slight variations between individual blocks compared to the continuous lines of plank flooring.

It’s popularity is understandable at a glance. The distinct zigzagging pattern introduces a strong sense of visual movement and energy to a space, which linear planking is simply unable to replicate. In certain configurations, a herringbone pattern can lengthen and widen the appearance of a room. 14

KUTCHENHAUS PROJECT: BISHOPSTON, NORTH BRISTOL A beautiful kitchen renovation, perfected by Rob Cash of Kutchenhaus Bristol and Interior Designer Emilie Heinonen of People & Spaces, has transformed a traditional Victorian terrace kitchen into a space that is designed for high-quality cooking with the ability to host family and friends all year round.

THE PROJECT BRIEF For this project, the client was looking to extend their kitchen in order to create a modern room which was capable of hosting family gatherings. Khuram has a passion for cooking and from the outset it was evident what he and Sophia wanted from the new room. Emilie comments: “The ground floor of the houses in Bishopston are in keeping with the classic Victorian style; long in their length with a lack of natural light and connection to the garden. The layout typically consists of a living room, middle room and then a kitchen.

The client also wanted to complete the project with speed, which is why they turned to Rob at Kutchenhaus to deliver on this after visiting the Bristol showroom and selecting a kitchen.”

MEETING THE BRIEF With Emilie on board, test fit layouts were produced to find the optimum positioning of the kitchen and flow, and this resulted in six different options being created based on the brief. His and hers mood boards were produced by Khuram and Sophia and then Emilie worked

TACKLING BOTTLENECKING One potential problem which was considered from the very beginning was bottlenecking - a point of congestion in the kitchen where people would congregate and crowd the space. This was a concern for both Sophia and Khuram, therefore it was a key consideration for the kitchen plan. This meant the final kitchen needed to be a flowing space which would avoid this when more people were added to the room. Dimensions were therefore crucial and, with a plan developed and agreed upon, the space would incorporate an island that transformed it into a welcoming area for family gatherings and traditional Indian cooking. “Key to the clients’ plans, we decided not to include seating at the island as they thought this may discourage guests from sitting at the dining table. Furthermore, a utility space was added into the middle room of the property enabling them to store items they wished,” Emilie explains.

TAILORING THE SPACE TO SPECIFIC NEEDS The kitchen required for the project was one that would both look great but also facilitate regular, intricate cooking. The client therefore opted for a German-engineered kitchen from Kutchenhaus. Kitchen expert, Rob Cash of Kutchenhaus Bristol, worked together with Emilie and the client to deliver a space which fit the layout dimensions. The kitchen selected was the Kutchenhaus Easytouch which featured a standout kitchen island and things such as large drawers to store the many pots and pans used in traditional Indian cooking.

The result was a happy middle ground between the two mood boards, to ensure that both Sophia and Khuram received a kitchen that aligned with both of their ideals.

The new kitchen layout featured a new sink area alongside a dishwasher, with the spaces between different items in the kitchen meticulously planned. Rob comments: “We were able to design and deliver a bespoke kitchen, made exactly to fit the client’s demands. The fact that we could do this in a short space of time was very appealing to them and meant the project could progress at pace.” He continues: “This kitchen features Kutchenhaus Easytouch Mineral Green and Havanah Oak door fronts. The Easytouch range in particular offers anti-

fingerprint technology which is good for kitchens that are designed to host. It’s also a bonus to counteract fingerprints on surfaces when children are growing up. “The customer particularly liked the earthy tones of our Mineral Green and Havanah Oak door front, which looks fantastic in this two-tone kitchen design. There was also the requirement to maximise the storage space, therefore we made use of our XL base units and made sure they had plenty of useful internal solutions including drawer units and pullout gadgets. “The kitchen also features white Quartz worktops, an incredibly tough and durable option which is resistant to stains and cracks. Kutchenhaus was able to offer an array of colours and options overall which meant we could fit the taste of both Sophia and Khuram.”

APPLIANCES A full suite of new Bosch appliances was selected for the Bishopston project. Rob explains: “All the appliances chosen were black, which means they really contrast beautifully with the mineral green of the kitchen and the white surfaces too. The fridge in particular is a large, dark product which adds to the contemporary space and brings a modern feel to the entire room.”

CHALLENGES TO OVERCOME The biggest challenge for Emilie to overcome when planning the space was the lighting. Because there were different ceiling levels and skylights, selecting lighting and making sure it was the right lighting was critical for the kitchen to work properly.

Rob adds: “As the building project hit a slight delay, we had to store the kitchen for the customer as it had already arrived in the warehouse from our factory in Germany. We are lucky to work with a logistics supplier who was able to accommodate the storage for the customer, to avoid having to find space for a kitchen on site while works were still taking place.”

FAVOURITE ELEMENTS OF THE FINISHED PROJECT Emilie says: “I think the big accomplishment with the property was that the finished project showcased perfect scale. The scale of the space is just right, which means using the kitchen is natural and there’s an ease of access to appliances and ingredients, clear views to the garden and the rest of the home. “This makes the entire room very pleasing to the eye and this is possible because the layout was worked on extensively so that we got the scale right. “Additionally, Khuram and Sophie were willing to spend on their lighting to create the ambience of the room. For this they used Delta Light to install high lights which creates the perfect mood.” Rob continues: “I think the island is also a standout as it needed to function for a chef, almost. This meant we needed the highest quality product, and with this, very high-spec ovens too. THE ENDURING APPEAL OF HERRINGBONE FLOORS Herringbone wood flooring has a distinctive zig-zag pattern. Created from wooden pieces cut in perfect rectangles, the blocks are staggered so the end of one board meets the side of another producing a repeated, tessellated pattern.

While the herringbone pattern itself dates back to the Roman Empire, where it was primarily used for road paving (opus spicatum) due to its stability, the first known reference to herringbone being used specifically for flooring appears much later, in the 16th century. Specifically, one of the earliest documented examples of a wooden herringbone parquet floor can be found at the Château de Fontainebleau in France, installed in 1539. Following this, herringbone and other intricate parquet flooring patterns gained significant popularity among the French nobility throughout the 1600s, becoming a symbol of luxury and elegance in interior design. Parquet flooring became popular among the British aristocracy from the 1700s onward. It was in the 1930s that it started finding its way into middle-class homes and more modest abodes. It’s popularity is understandable at a glance. The distinct zigzagging pattern introduces a strong sense of visual movement and energy to a space, which linear planking is simply unable to replicate. In certain configurations, a herringbone pattern can lengthen and widen the appearance of a room. It’s also an excellent ‘zoning tool’; by changing the direction of the pattern, introducing another style of herringbone or introducing another laying pattern entirely, you can subtly define and demarcate different areas of an open-plan space. But the advantages of herringbone aren’t limited to the aesthetic. The interlocking pattern of the blocks laid at opposing angles inherently creates a more stable floor structure compared to straight planks. This interlock distributes stress and minimises 42

movement. The way the ends of the blocks meet the sides of adjacent blocks creates a stronger mechanical interlock at the joints, contributing to the floor's overall robustness. The busy pattern can be more forgiving at concealing minor subfloor irregularities or slight variations between individual blocks compared to the continuous lines of plank flooring. While a herringbone floor is inherently traditional, tipping its hat to a heritage going back more than two thousand years, a contemporary aesthetic can be achieved by using a prime grade floor (minimal knots, sap and colour variation) and a square shoulder edge detail, (for a seamless join), such as the floors to be found in Ted Todd’s Residence® collection. www.tedtodd.co.uk

S HOUSE: A LUXURY HOUSE ON THE SLOPING TERRAIN OF TURKEY In Turkey, on the sloping terrain of Kekliktepe, Urla, S House is a luxury residence that underwent a profound transformation, evolving from an existing structure with a basic envelope and foundational systems into a sophisticated architectural statement. Entrusted to Ofisvesaire, the project began by revisiting the initial building's framework, where the structural system was reimagined to allow a reorganization of the floor plan and massing. This revision culminated in the integration of a composite system, blending reinforced concrete with architectural elements that redefine the home's identity. A notable feature of the transformation is the addition of a pergola with a flexible glass façade, enhancing spatial fluidity and visual connection by seamlessly blending interior and exterior spaces. The entrance serves as a calm, welcoming threshold, guiding visitors from the exterior into the living areas. The warm interplay of wood and marble sets the tone for a seamless transition to the adjoining spaces, including the kitchen and other living areas accessed via open corridors. At the heart of S House, the living room establishes a formal yet inviting atmosphere, incorporating a dining area and a

separate lounge. As visitors move through a set of semi-transparent sliding doors, the space expands, creating an effortless connection between the interior and exterior. The visual and physical link to the terrace and garden vistas enhances the sense of openness and connectivity, generating a dynamic interplay between transparency, materiality, and spatial layers. This spatial fluidity is further emphasized through the thoughtful arrangement of walls, movable facades, and niches. These elements provide flexibility, allowing for the reconfiguration of indoor and outdoor spaces to suit various levels of privacy and functional needs. This sense of dynamism is mirrored in the dialogue between rooms, reinforcing spatial continuity and sequence. At the end of the corridor that connects the bedrooms and other private spaces, a unique work of alternating artwork becomes a focal point, grounding the design’s sense of rhythm and flow. Fluid volumes traverse between nine existing trees on the southern side of a 3,311 sqm plot, with 2 of the trees punctuating the open deck areas and the others in close proximity of the Nine X Nine house, located in Gandhinagar, India.

The entry to the plot is located between a large cluster of trees on the northwestern corner, revealing the house slowly as one moves inside, from the gate. The location of the built spaces towards the southern side generates a large garden on the northern side, with all the rooms oriented towards the garden. The orientation is planned in response to the hot climate prevalent in this location, with temperatures in excess of 35°C for most of the year, and the sun in the southern hemisphere. The House forms a ‘T’ shape in plan and section simultaneously. Entered from the northern side, a central spine branches towards the east and west, with a focal spiral stairway at the centre. Sectionally, the house is entered at the ground level, with one level above and one level below. A generous sunken courtyard space on the western side allows natural light and air to the subterranean level, linked to the ground level garden by an 50

open stairway along an undulating wall with a waterfall. This waterfall on the western side, and a shallow reflecting the pool on the north-eastern side, provides passive cooling to the spaces. Six of the existing trees onsite were retained within the sunken courtyard, and another three on the southeastern side. The entrance level of the house includes the common areas, including the living room, dining room, kitchen, and guest bedroom. The upper level houses three bedrooms for the family, each one opening up on two sides towards trees and the garden. The subterranean level is planned with entertainment spaces and a small gallery to house the art collection of the owners. Every space in the house opens into large cantilevered decks that are partially sheltered and partially open, allowing these transitional spaces to be used in different ways based upon the weather. These deep recesses serve to keep the internal volumes cool throughout the hot summer months when temperatures can rise to 50°C.

The internal palette is minimal with white marble flooring, wood furniture, and subdued accents throughout. The house is designed to be energy efficient, with no air conditioning required throughout most of the year. There is ample natural light in each part, as well as water recycling, rainwater harvesting, and the use of natural materials in the interior. The Springlock concealed security fixing was developed by a company with many years of experience installing pictures in hotels, pubs, clubs & restaurants. Frustrated by the shortcomings of existing hanging devices, the Directors decided it was time for picture installation to evolve & they began engineering an entirely new concept. This was designed & created by brothers John & Roger Hough, formally of Ovolo Designs Ltd, based in Barnet, North London. Jay Osgerby commented: "The form invites engagement, and its exactness is achieved through expert engineering and the use of enamelled steel, which is a far superior material for sanitary ware." The collection is characterised by a pared-down design approach with the bath featuring an outwardly projecting rim and referencing classic bath design. The collection is now also available in the new sage green colour, Salvia, on display at Clerkenwell Design Week.

BASINS IN A CHOICE OF COLOURS In addition, Bette will be displaying a selection of its basins, which are all available in 31 Key Colours. They combine style and colour with durability, ease of cleaning and a 30-year warranty, making them as ideal for restaurants, bars and hotels as they are for private homes.

BETTE SUSTAINABILITY Bette products can support a more sustainable circular economy approach, in which products are re-used and recycled. The glazed titaniumsteel material from which products are made is so durable that all products come with a 30-year warranty. This means that, when a bathroom is being refurbished, the Bette’s baths, shower trays and basins will often be re-used or will be sold for re-use elsewhere. CLERKENWELL DESIGN WEEK 2025 PREVIEW From brick and water installations to British lighting champions, a Scandi design takeover and headline talks by Sabine Marcelis and Tom Dixon: what to expect at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025. Set to be its largest edition to date, Clerkenwell Design Week returns from 20 – 22 May 2025. With over 15 venues – including three new locations: The Charterhouse and Charterhouse Square, Studio Smithfield and the Church of Design at St Bartholomew the Great – and 160 local design showrooms, the 14th edition promises an immersive experience featuring installations, product launches, exhibitions, talks and workshops.

MADE FROM BRICKS Leading this year’s festival is a major new public artwork by British artist Alex Chinneck, set in Charterhouse Square. This special commission marks Chinneck’s return to sculpting with brick and playing with architectural elevations. The piece incorporates repurposed steel salvaged from the demolition of another London building, thanks to the sponsorship of Cleveland Steel. It is developed 62

with the support of Crittall Windows, FabSpeed and Michelmersh Brick Holdings PLC. Meanwhile, Albion Stone and Hutton Stone return to Clerkenwell Green with a new pavilion designed by Hawkins\Brown and engineered by Webb Yates. Brick from a Stone: Arch Revival features a striking pair of nearly four-metre-high freestanding vaulted arches. One is constructed from sandstone bricks in various hues from Hutton Stone’s quarries, while the other is crafted from Heritage Portland Stone bricks from Albion Stone’s Dorset mine. Each arch is composed of a single layer of 102mm-thick stone bricks, demonstrating the material’s versatility as a load-bearing architectural product.

BRITISH TALENT SHINES IN LIGHTING DESIGN Expect a diverse mix of British lighting design talent, celebrating materials, craftsmanship and creativity. Marking its 15th anniversary, Curiousa is set to unveil Carnival, a new addition to its Sculptural Stack series, at Light. Carnival combines porcelain, wood and Curiousa’s signature hand-blown glass to create three striking drop chandeliers, reminiscent of the geometric Harlequin motif from the 16thcentury Italian Commedia dell'arte theatre. J. Adams & Co will present its new Apex and Strata Circular lights at its St John Street showroom – designed by founder Will Earl and handcrafted in the company’s Birmingham factory. Devon-based Hand & Eye Studio also returns, bringing new collaborations with ceramicists Sue Pryke and

Justin Page to the British Collection. Meanwhile, Buster + Punch (at Elements) and Bert Frank (Farringdon Road) enhance this year’s lineup with their latest designs.

DESIGNED AND MADE IN THE UK British design and craftsmanship continue to set the standard, with a selection of brands highlighting their excellence in design and manufacturing. Joining CDW at Platform, AH HA Project will unveil its first product range, inspired by the natural contours of geological formations. Spanning mirrors, side tables and desk accessories, each piece is crafted from Valchromat – a high-density wood fibre panel made from recycled pine wood and mill waste, coloured throughout with organic dyes and bonded with non-toxic resin. These pieces are machine-carved and hand-finished in the UK by the studio’s founders. Also new to the festival, family-run business Summit 1977 will launch its LUCA soft seating range at Clerkenwell Green. Made at the company's Wiltshire HQ, LUCA combines bold curves and comfortable lines, offering a cohesive range with versatility and a unified aesthetic. Kirkby Design and COAT Paints have teamed up to create a limited-edition paint collection, set to launch at CDW. The collaboration introduces 12 bespoke shades to COAT’s timeless colour library, thoughtfully crafted to complement Kirkby Design’s latest textile collection, HEIR, which draws inspiration from the elegant, old-world charm of grand British estates. 63

Many homeowners don’t realise that the space below an elevated deck holds tremendous potential. With the simple addition of an under-deck drainage system, this area can be used for almost anything – from storage to additional outdoor living space.

WHAT IS AN UNDER-DECK DRAINAGE SYSTEM? In most cases, decks are supported by substructures made of timber. When exposed to the outdoor elements, joists and bearers are susceptible to moisture penetration that can lead to mould growth, rot and rust that can accelerate structural deterioration. An under-deck drainage system uses an integrated network of troughs and downspouts to divert water away from a deck. This protects the foundation from moisture penetration and creates dry, usable space beneath the deck surface.

TYPES OF DECK DRAINAGE SYSTEMS While there are multiple options for under-deck drainage, systems largely fall into two categories: those installed beneath the deck framing, and those that are applied over the joists. Below-the-joist systems consist of metal or vinyl panels applied to the underside of a deck’s joists with the panels sloping to a gutter at the deck beam for drainage. A major disadvantage of these systems is they leave wood and metal exposed to the elements and are more susceptible to water damage and corrosion.

CASE STUDY

MODERATING MODULAR Shift House is comprised of three modules and five panels. The modules form each of the bedroom wings and the central kitchen, living room, and dining room. The five panels were used to supplement the height of the living module. Once fabricated, the house was assembled on site within a day, including MEP systems. Floor finishes, exterior cladding, and selective millwork were installed on-site afterwards. Palette’s initial steps focused on overcoming the traditional shortcomings of modular construction. Transportation constraints typically provide less than ideal room dimensions, requiring overlapping modules at critical areas. Similarly, traditional module heights preclude grand spaces, which the firm overcame using prefabricated panels to extend the living module’s height. Dozens of configurations were developed and evaluated to balance spatial quality against constructability. Ultimately, the architects arrived at a scheme with two-bedroom wings that connected to a central, high-ceilinged living space.

INVITING NATURE INSIDE The L-shaped house anchors one edge of a grassy lawn in the back of the property, with the other edges defined by a minimalist swimming pool and rows of trees. An elevated deck forms a transition from the interior. The lush landscaping of the rear contrasts against the front’s gravel and drought-resistant plantings, which offers a sparser appearance to passersby. This enclosed lawn is private and relatively secluded, encapsulating the home’s role as an escape to nature for the family. The interior of the house is designed to draw in views of the landscaped courtyard. Large windows occupy two walls of the living space, overlooking the rear. Bedrooms and bathrooms also look onto a courtyard, which forms the backdrop to those rooms.

INTERIOR CHARACTER Millwork elements were used as a means of creating a unique character element in each of the spaces, as well as a method for allowing the modules to connect more seamlessly. Cabinetry materials were selected for natural textures, lending variation to each piece.

UNIDAM – A 21ST CENTURY SOLUTION TO A 21ST CENTURY PROBLEM!

As our weather patterns change and rainfall becomes frequent and heavy (deluge) many building owners are finding that their gutter systems are failing allowing rainwater to “overtop” the gutters and seeping into the building causing production disruption, stock loss and building damage. We cannot change our weather but we can take measures to alleviate the problem when it occurs and right now the only measure available is the Unidam system. So what is the Unidam system and how does it solve the problem of over topping gutters? Quite simply it is a series of blades that are manufactured to fit the existing roof sheet and slow down the rate at which the water falling onto the roof runs into the gutter. In turn allowing the gutter to discharge normally into the drainage system. The system, designed by Ampteam Ltd and manufactured using materials sympathetic to the existing roof sheet of the building the number and size of the blades are determined by a survey and calculation. 78

Considerations are given to the roof slope length, roof pitch, gutter capacity and geographical location of the building. The method of assembly is very simple and Uni-dam is fixed to the rib or upper corrugation of the roof sheeting following its profile leaving a continuous gap between the bottom of the blade and the roof sheet. This gap allows water from light to medium rainfall to pass beneath the blade and down into the gutter in a normal manner, but as rainfall intensifies and builds in speed and depth the Unidam blades act as mini dams containing the water and releasing it at a controlled speed so that the gutter and outlets can discharge the water normally into the drainage system. The blades also isolate areas of the roof between them, localising the rainfall further helping prevent water build up and de energise and slow the water flow considerably for the duration of the storm.
