SHIFTING GEARS IN 2022 Dear Colleagues, As I pen this piece, I am compelled to ponder on the last year of progressive transformation from PHOTO BY MARTIN R. SMITH

public sector to statutory. No one ever said this journey would be a walk in the park and surely it has not been. We must, however, stop and smell the roses and appreciate the small wins along the way. We have made strides as a Complex, as a TEAM and slowly but surely, we are inching closer and closer to our vision in becoming one of the best health care providers in the region, but to get there, we must all be marching to the same beat and singing from the same hymnal. To achieve this, we must start by strengthening our onboarding programme for new hires and create streams to re-integrate existing employees to the Institution’s values and culture. The majority of employees would have had the opportunity to be introduced to MHMC just ahead of transition when employment contracts were issued in March/April 2021. This introduction was critical to help demystify myths about the transition process and to provide a high-level overview of MHMC, its background and direction. Now that we have somewhat settled, we need to shift gears and take you deeper and closer to the core principles, values, policies and expectations of everyone of us at MHMC. It is therefore a priority of the Senior Management to undertake full onboarding of all MHMC employees over the next few months.

MHMC onboarding will accelerate employees’ knowledge and understanding of the institution and position employees to better serve both their internal and external customers. This initiative will be led by the Human Resources Team in collaboration with other departments including IT, Quality Management, Corporate Communications and others. Employees will also learn about MHMC’s organisation structure, its value proposition for employees and a lot more. More information will be communicated via department leaders. Looking forward to taking bigger and bolder steps together as a team. Let’s adopt our 43rd Independence theme as we move forward “Douvan Ansanm”!

Guidelines for collection of TAX P11 Forms: In anticipation of March 31, 2022 deadline for filing taxes, as of March 1, 2022 Tax P11 Forms have been made available for pick up at the reception desk of the Administration Department between 8:00 AM to 4:30PM, Monday- Friday.

How to access your pay slip online: WHAT YOU NEED Ensure that you have the following information: NIC Number, employee ID number, DOB and a valid email address. (Call 6557 to ask for you employee ID number.) REGISTER

Visit payslips.govt.lc. Click register and fill in the form with the information from step one. Then click register. VERIFY YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS Go to your email inbox and look for an email named 'Activation for Payslip' from Government of Saint Lucia and click the activation link. Voila! You can now view your pay slips online.

Shadrach Bartholomew – Security Officer Mr Bartholomew has been a security officer for over 4 years. What you don’t know is that he joined the police band as a musician with a passion for the drums and the trombone. The discipline of music transitioned to maintaining order which is why he enjoys being a security officer today. He is happy to guide and direct all visitors of MHMC while offering excellent customer service. But when you come across him you may notice that he is wearing a bulletproof vest. He doesn’t leave home without it as he believes protecting others sometimes starts with protecting yourself. Shadrach is also an ACE team member for the security team. He has shown his commitment to being a part of the culture that will improve and maintain positive employee engagement. He has successfully led one of the team's first staff activities. He is very much looking forward to International Security Day in July this year to celebrate and recognise his peers and himself for all what they do. As you move around the institution, and you come across him please say Hello!

Sick Leave and Benefits Uncertified sick leave pay 91. — (1) Subject to subsection (2), an employee is entitled to be paid sick leave for actual illness or actual physical incapacitation without requirement of medical certification where — (a) each such period of sick leave does not exceed two days; and (b) the aggregate of such periods of sick leave does not exceed twelve days per annum. (2) Where an employer reasonably believes that any purported sick leave, no matter how short, forms part of a course or pattern of absenteeism and is an abuse of sick leave provisions under this Code, he or she may require an employee to furnish him or her with a medical certificate.

Monday to Friday: 6am - 7am, 12pm 1pm, 5pm - 7pm Weekends & Holidays: 3pm - 5pm

Patients in the Pediatrics Ward are allowed one parent to stay, and they should be registered with the nurses. The other parent or visitor will only be permitted during visiting hours. MHMC recognises that persons may wish to drop off items for family members outside of visiting hours. Please note these items can be dropped off at the security station, properly marked with the patient’s name and ward.
