STAFF FEATURE: Mikeje Nelson Inpatient Coordinator PHOTO BY MARTIN R. SMITH

“A smile can heal a thousand wounds” - Art Smith.

Mikeje Nelson joined MHMC last September as an Inpatient Coordinator and has surely brought a smile that can be felt by her colleagues and particularly the patients of MHMC. Her main responsibility is the welfare of the patients, she makes regular visits to the wards, greets her patients, and attempts to resolve any questions, queries, or concerns while these patients are with us. She directs all their concerns to the relevant departments to ensure their comfort and any assistance needed is extended to them during their stay. Her big, bright smile and her very distinctive giggle is always remembered by those she looks after. The patient services department recently held their very first team appreciation activity, as the awards were announced Mijeke was recognised for her smile, her consistent and great customer service, always showing a positive attitude and maintaining good relations with her colleagues. This came to no surprise to the team as everyone happily cheered as she walked up to receive the award. When Mikeje is not at MHMC she shared with us that she tends to find herself in nature. She has a love for the outdoors. She would walk along riverbanks, stroll through the forest, or just enjoy the butterflies in the garden. She also has a passion for food, and challenges herself to create or try new dishes at home for her family. Mikeje is so passionate about her job here at MHMC and we are delighted to have her on the team.

this month, one of which is their first paint ball competition in the south of the island. The black team was led by Shahidi Leonce which outperformed the camp team. This has also exposed Shahidi’s leadership qualities. Team building exercises encourage staff to communicate with each other to complete tasks and solve problems. By being in a fun and relaxing environment outside the workplace, persons are able to relax, be themselves and open up to others. Taking part in something new and exciting increases staff motivation, morale, creativity and more. This certainly has brought a buzz to the team, and they look forward to doing more fun activities together. We commend the IT department on this initiative, and we look forward to supporting all departments as they embark on team activities whether at the complex or externally.
