Town Administrator Kezer to step down early
Town Administrator Thatcher Kezer is retiring Dec. 31, 18 months earlier than expected. “Thatcher has provided steady leadership during a period of significant challenges and opportunities for our community,” said Select Board Chair Dan Fox. Kezer’s contract was set to expire in June 2028. He told the Current he has no immediate plans. “Just retiring 1 1/2 years early,” Kezer texted to the Current. “Any new endeavors I take on will simply be for the fun of it.” For more, visit MarbleheadCurrent.org.

BY LEIGH BLANDER A mystery unfolded in Marblehead on June 10, and as of Monday afternoon, it remained unsolved. (Visit MarbleheadCurrent.org for the very latest.) Police are searching for the people responsible for smashing through access gates at the high school’s Piper Field and driving across the recently installed turf, leaving tire tracks. Hours later, one of the vehicles allegedly involved turned up submerged off Grace Oliver’s Beach. Police said the red SUV, which had New York license plates, was stolen in Raynham. A father-and-son from upstate New York told Boston TV station WCVB
that the SUV is theirs — and was stolen from outside their hotel in Raynham. Sam Auletta, 14, told WCVB that he and his dad were in Massachusetts for a hockey tournament. They discovered their car was missing Saturday morning. All of Auletta’s hockey gear was in the SUV. “It was crazy because you know I feel like this stuff only happens in movies,” Auletta said. “You know I see it in movies and stuff, but the fact that it actually happened to me and my dad. I still can’t process it; it’s crazy.”

Marblehead Police are asking for the public’s help after 17 reported car break-ins Saturday night into Sunday. “This is an active investigation and we are working with other local agencies that are suspected to have been victimized by the same group of individuals,” Chief Dennis King told the Current. There was “no damage to the vehicles and they were all unlocked,” King added. Swampscott Police also reported seeing a recent increase in break-ins, all involving unlocked vehicles. “Thieves typically won’t waste time entering a locked vehicle unless there are valuables visible. Simply locking your vehicle and hiding anything of value can protect you from becoming a victim,” Swampscott Police wrote on social media. Police urge residents to lock their vehicles and close all windows. Also, remove all valuables and bags from view.
