MUHAMMAD ARKAN HAQQI Hello! My name is Arkan and I’ve just got my Bachelor’s Degree from Bandung Institute of Technology. I am a very design-driven person that looks at design not only as problem-solving, also as the aesthetic and human experience value that delivers with it. For me architecture idea should be a dream and that we as an architect should realize it into concrete reality. Architecture has the power to actualize a virtual into the real world and creates a better world for the future. At the same time puts a big responsibility on it not to be careless in making decisions that could affect the future.

NAUTICAL MUSEUM

HYPER-RECREATIVE

BACHELOR THESIS PROJECT JAKARTA, INDONESIA

2020 | Academic | Area: ±40.000m² | Individual Supervisor: Dewi Larasati, ST., MT., Ph.D Software: Rhinoceros + Grasshopper, Maya, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lumion

Located in Ancol, one of the tourist attractions located in the capital city of Jakarta and one of the widest in Southeast Asia, the museum is set to be a new recreation facility for the public. Ancol has complete and sophisticated recreational facilities that can entertain people who want to entertain themselves. Every year, millions of people visit Ancol for recreational purposes with friends, family and others because of its close location. The high level of visitors and the similar objectives of the people who come are important factors in designing buildings, so the issue of “Recreation” is the key to strengthen and support the Ancol area itself. Although the museum is often known as a silent and boring space that can’t interact with the people themselves, this project aims to make the museum as fun as possible to create a strong recreation experience without neglecting education for the visitor. From the building to the landscapes will be aimed to be as fun as it could and bringing a new kind of novelty to the surrounding area.

Eyes look around, the ear tries to hear from the hidden whispers, and all the senses participate in seeking what is the purpose of the place. A simple feeling arises, then the heart speaks to the mind, “People are always happy here”. Their faces were bright, their eyes were smiling, releasing all the burdens that were in their minds. Did they perhaps have the same purpose when they come to this place?. Something new that will be build here should be the one that integrates with the surrounding and gives a new value to the existing.

8 | Prologue

The main concept of the project is creating a fun continuous space of exhibition for the visitors’ experience. To create that experience, the exhibition is stretch out from the museum by blending it to the landscape and waterfront. All visitors will be indulged by a pleasant knowledge of the whole area of this museum.

Conceptual Sketch

The museum is planned to be a very Hi-Tech Exhibition with an interactive display, VR, etc. The landscape and features around the museum are set to be an outdoor museum. Both ends of the landscape will be green spaces with mangrove and tropical tree while the centre of the site becomes the ship exhibition. The northern waterfront will hold a water attraction and an underwater chapel that can be enjoyed by visitors.

As one of the densest location in the heart of Bandung, Cibadak Street is an old Chinatown Heritage that used to be a famous shopping street since in the ’90s is now facing the problem of unsaleable goods due to the outdated trend. Merchants that have been there since long ago slowly shutting their store one by one and left abandoned buildings that are due to the unsaleable business prospects making this area becomes a dead town. On the day the area becomes a slum and unhealthy area and by the night homeless people sleep on the shopping street. There is only a little social life and vehicle are parked on the street creating a traffic jam along the road.

2

The goal is to revive the area from the social, business, and urban by intervening in the area by creating a new function. A mixed-use building is proposed to create a new social space that can increase the quality of the area. The idea is to make an urban oasis that can be easily accessible by the public and maintaining the heritage of the area. It is also in the middle of the city with a lot of tourist destination nearby so a hotel is a function to support the tourism business part.

The building is set to be the new high school that accommodates the non-boarding student with bilingual subject to form a smart new young generation that holds on to the Islamic principle.

34 | Sketch

Located in the Daarut Tauhiid Islamic Boarding School, the new High School building is the first building that will apply 4 Islamic principles. The principle will be translated into the architecture form and make a new better school. The four principles taught by Islam were to be: Clean, Pennywise, Healthy, and Harmless. Islam taught to be clean with wudhu, not to waste, be healthy and not be destructive to the environment.

DESIGN STUDIO III PROJECT BANDUNG, INDONESIA

2018 | Academic | Area: ±7.000m² | Individual Supervisor: Dr.Eng. Hanson Endra Kusuma, ST., M.Eng. Software: SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lumion

Located in West Java, Bandung is one of the creative city in Indonesia. From individuals to large communities, people love to gather to exchange their ideas with others making this city even developing forward. Influenced from the little of art deco history, the people have tasted the taste of the art deco during the colonial times and Bandung still has a lot of tropical art deco that is still standing till this day. The heart of the Bandung city is the place where all of the creative people from the city gather. They are selling either on their little tenant either or beside the sidewalk. Time to time has passed and there is still no place for the creative community to express their mind freely.

Bandung city centre or Asia-Africa Street area is a place where people gather from all over the city. As if it never went off or empty and there is always a story made by the people from day today. Local artists and communities give a colour along the streets during the day to entertain passers-by. As the sun goes down, the whole place is transformed into a diverse culinary centre. Tireless and creative society but have no place to express their feelings, and without the people, the street will remain nothing than just a street. The project goal is to “create a space where people, local community and merchant can express their feeling and boost their activity to form a better place.”

ALÉLIKA FOLDABLE PREFAB GLAMPING VILLA COMPETITION ENTRY LOMBOK, INDONESIA

2020 | Competition | Area: ±1000m² | Team Team

: Vadya Dzauqiah

Software

: Rhinoceros, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lumion

Overlooking the stunning view of The Southern Lombok Sea, BaleLika serves as a temporary living space for MotoGP Enthusiast. Inspired by the system of Origami, the glamping resort can be folded into easily transported modules. Adapting the local village architecture, the villa is distributed around a public space with a view to the southern sea. BaleLika encourages its people to share their common interest, bringing new experience along as they come back home.

5

Currently, Lombok lacks enough places for tourists to stay. Over 60,000 more hotel rooms are estimated by the government to be needed for this event. In fact, the existing condition looks like that it can’t handle all of the tourists that are coming. The idea of the community members can build pre-fabricated glamping areas around remote villages using locally available materials and deploy them wherever they want without damaging nature. It should be easy to build and dismantle on any condition, also uses as much local material as possible.

Folding Module + Practical, Easy to assemble, Construction Time, Transport Inspired by Origami, the idea is to create a system that is easy to build, transport and flexible in design.

Massing & Construction Method The unit mass is formed by using a modular grid 2,4 x 2,4 x 2,4 voxel based on the local material module. For the sustainable and community empowering aspects, all of the material that is used to build the villa is using locally available wood and also constructed by the local community. The outcome of the design is to create a foldable structure from the bottom to the roof. 1 Bedroom Unit

: Polyhedral Structures Laboratory Research

Software

: Rhinoceros + Grasshopper

Polyhedra Bamboo Pavilion is individual research about digital tectonics and local craftmanship. Focusing the project to combine both aspects that rarely go side by side. By the advanced geometry generation from the computational design aspect later translated into a very simple way of fabrication that can be built without any advanced tools. The pavilion is created using a tool developed by Polyhedra Structures Laboratory called “Polyframe”, it creates a funicular structure from a stacking polyhedron. The result of this is later taken to be analyzed and proceed to the construction method.
