“If it can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, refinished, resold, recycled or composted then it should be restricted, redesigned or removed from production” Pete Seeger
Communication is a necessary component of all effective and meaningful relationships. Styles vary of course, depending on circumstances, power dynamics, personal preferences, culture and skills, etc. Skills are developed.
Just as deciding not to decide is a decision, choosing not to communicate is a powerful form of communication too. And, there are times it’s best to “bite our tongues”. According to researcher Albert Mehrabian 55% of communication is nonverbal. When communicating emotions only 7% is verbal while 38% is conveyed through tone of voice and 55% through body language such as posture and facial expressions.
I’ve been appreciating the increased communications around the park. Timely and considerate information about park activity and happenings helps create trust and safety for all residents. Thank you Kenny!
Resources for conveying information in the park include our Facebook page and the Sequoia Gardens Email Blasts. Their purpose is dissemination of pertinent news and information that impact our residents. If you haven’t already be sure and sign up so you don’t miss out. The links Are: SGMOASSOC@gmail.com and www.facebook.com/groups/sr.sequoiagardensresidents. If you need assistance signing up ask any SGMOA board member for help or contact Judy Loomis: hoodie.judy@gmail.com
I’m enjoying the improvements and beautification efforts in our Clubhouse. Thank you Sandi Marra for the lovely curtains, painting and all you do. The clubhouse sign created by Rich Franco and the art group is welcomingly delightful. Their talents and creativity are wonderful contributions, thank you.
One eye sore continues to stubbornly persist though; a revolving collection of discarded items at the free table. Please do not drop off any partially used/opened food items, used personal toileting equipment, fluorescent lighting, obsolete electronic equipment, broken materials, worn out dirty shoes and the like. Please use your Recology (800-243-0291) newsletter or www.recology.com/SonomaMarin for how to properly dispose of such items.
The free table has a long and beloved tradition of ‘treasures’ exchange that’s enjoyed by many in the park. To continue, we ask that residents use this resource responsibly. Please help ensure items dropped there are only gently used, clean, in working, operable condition and don’t pose a safety hazard. Contact Pat Schwarz regarding Durable Medical Equipment questions or items. Thank you for your service Pat.
Warm Regards, Teresa Franklin- SRMOA President

In a time of great division it is more important than ever for us to find bridges and pathways to understanding others. One way to do that is to volunteer and serve in your community in some capacity. Each park should have an association where residents can gather and discuss issues pertinent to their park. Failure to have such an organization has often resulted in Ownership raising rates, failing to maintain services and diminishing benefits. With an organization in place Ownership is less likely to treat you as an unimportant customer.
To be realistic though Ownership and Mobile Home-Owners have slightly different agendas. Recognizing this and working with owners is a great way to improve your ability to communicate effectively and listen. Like all negotiations each side has to feel heard in order to come to an agreement.
A great example of this is looking at the rules in the park and considering updates. Sequoia Gardens Mobile Home Owners Association took this task on, visited different parks and then met with a group of residents to discuss. Out of this comes a revised list of rules which are then provided to ownership to review. This allows ownership the ability to look at the residents’ views and review for ownership’s liability. Ownership has the final say on rules but by providing them our version, we did a lot of work for them and we have a vested interest in the park maintaining a safe and pleasant environment. I’m looking forward to the end result, (ownership has 6 months to review and respond).
Nothing happens in a vacuum. So consider serving on your Park Board or a committee. You might make some new friends, and you certainly will be appreciated.
Kathy Thurman & Judy Loomis are heading up the social committee this year. We want to return to having a group that meets regularly and decides what events to throw and rotate responsibilities for each event.

"As an owner of a manufactured home, you are in a unique ownership situation not duplicated anywhere else. You own your home, but you also rent someone else’s land. Your financial investment in your home is often greater than the park owner’s investment in your lot, even allowing for a share of the common area. Yet, park owners have a HUGE influence over your living conditions. GSMOL’s goal is to help manufactured home owners protect their investment

Less ego, more wealth. Saving money is the gap between your ego and your income, and wealth is what you don't see. So wealth is created by suppressing what you could buy today in order to have more stuff or more options in the future.

More people can be greater leaders than they think they can, but they need a purpose greater than themselves.
William J. Clinton, 42nd president of the United States.
Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.
Frequently attributed to Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United State
Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan, "Press on," has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
Calvin Coolidge, 30th president of the United States, from a sign on his desk.
Any man worth his salt will stick up for what he believes right, but it takes a slightly better man to acknowledge instantly and without reservation that he is in error.

The young woman really thought she'd been very patient through a protracted period of dating with no talk of marriage.
One night her steady boyfriend took her to a Chinese restaurant. As he perused the menu, he casually asked her, "So . . . how do you like your rice? Boiled? Steamed? Or fried?"
Without missing a beat, she looked over her menu at him and replied clearly, "Thrown."
While proudly showing off his new apartment to friends late one night, one wag led the way to his bedroom where there was a big brass gong.
"What's that big brass gong for?" one of the guests asked.
"Why, that's the talking clock," the man replied. "Watch", the man said, giving the gong an ear-shattering pound with a hammer.
Suddenly, someone on the other side of the wall screamed, "F'gosh sakes, you idiot, it's 2 a.m. in the morning!"
The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray:
"Take only ONE. God is watching."
Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies.
A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."
