Brookwood Homeowners Group
On 10/13/2022, a quorum of Brookwood Homeowners Group (BHG) Board of Directors met in the clubhouse to discuss the proposed November 2022 BHG elections. Since no residents stepped forward to volunteer to run as candidates, the Board voted to suspend the BHG until it is needed again. Until then, all Brookwood Park Community Improvement Proposals should be communicated at our quarterly Brookwood Park GSMOL Chapter 1051 meetings.

Clubhouse Scheduling & Equipment
If you plan on using the clubhouse for a family gathering or other such event, please contact Dan Drummond with the Brookwood Social Club to be sure there is not an event already scheduled. You can check the online Brookwood Park clubhouse calendar at the following URL link. The weekly view allows you to see event titles. https://tinyurl.com/BrookwoodPark Calendar
You can also check with Dan if you would like to borrow any tables or chairs to be sure you will not conflict with any already scheduled events.
Many Brookwood residents have mentioned that they would like to see the clubhouse open in the evening so they could come out to play pool, work the library puzzle, etc.

Whenever there is an evening event scheduled, the game room, library, and lobby area are usually available for your use.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Greetings, Brookwoodians,
October is here and the start of the holiday season. We can look forward to all the holiday decorations that appear at 52 Oakstone Ct. thanks to Pete and Cindi Allen. They always have something in their yard to remind us of the holiday.
Since my last message, Gina Drummond has joined the Brookwood Park Social Club as a member at large. As you know, Gina already does a lot for the Social Club and for the residents of our park, and we appreciate her joining the board. Another person who has volunteered to help us out is Debi Clifton. Debi offered to take over the decoration committee. She has done a great job setting up for our meal events. Thank You Debi for all of your time and effort in decorating the clubhouse for us.
As of September 1st, the Brookwood Park Social Club had 62 members. This is just about half of what we usually have. You may ask, why should I spend $10.00 to join the Social Club? The Brookwood Park Social Club pays for the Resident’s Directory, the monthly newsletters and keeps some of us informed on what is happening through the Brookwood Park Social Club Facebook page. Along with these benefits, you get a discount on the meal events that are put on by the BSC. Thank you to the 62 members who have already renewed their membership this year.
Last August, Rick Thomas did some roadwork in the Park. This will help keep the pavement from failing and potholes showing up. I know it was inconvenient while this work was going on. There is no good time to do this type of construction. If it was done at night, the noise would have kept a lot of us awake. The only thing that could have made this a little less disruptive was if we had a day or two notice in advance of the work being done. That way we could have planned our trips around the work and made it easier on the contractor and on us.
With the end of the warm weather and the pool closing, we have an assortment of indoor exercise equipment and DVD’s that will be available for residents to use. This could be done by an individual or in a group setting. More details will be in the November newsletter.

NEIGHBORSPOTLIGHT: BRUCEWORDEN
Born in 1952, Bruce Worden spent his early years in coastal Pacifica, CA. After high school, Bruce opted to leave the perennial fog behind and pursue higher education in the sunny Central Valley of California. Having been introduced to the practice of Transcendental Meditation, he developed a fervent interest in philosophy and subsequently graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Philosophy and Religion.
Unsurprisingly, this degree did not readily translate into lucrative post-grad employment. Bruce then studied electronics to gain a position in Silicon Valley. While working in a Systems Test environment at a disk drive manufacturer, he documented entirely absent technical procedures, which filled a valuable void within the company. His proficiency at writing manuals for hardware/software products became his undoing as more companies tapped into his expertise.
When finally ever-increasing documentation demands became all-consuming, Bruce found that he had lost the joy he formerly experienced in this work. So after 26 years in the industry, Bruce jumped ship and retreated to nature, taking on the mantle of Water Department Ranger for the City of Santa Cruz. Among other things, this position involved hiking into the wooded hills, which happened to be his favorite sport. In fact, it was a group hike that brought Linda into Bruce’s life over ten years ago.

As the Ranger position was in hiatus for three months every winter, Bruce began to supplement the paycheck gap by becoming a live-in caregiver for a disabled gentleman; a position he continued for fifteen years, long after leaving the Ranger job.
NEIGHBORSPOTLIGHT: BRUCEWORDEN
Once you meet Bruce you will see that his tender heart is a blessing to those he serves. Since moving into 65 Oakcreek Court three years ago, Bruce has been active on the Brookwood Social Club board. He exercises his photography hobby by taking pictures at our social events, which are featured in the monthly newsletters. When he’s not serving up community eggs he might be cooking, baking, gardening, or involved in some other home improvement project. Bruce attributes his love of nature and everything outdoors to his father, the most generous man he has ever known.

Pika, a gorgeous Siberian Forest cat, is Bruce’s roommate, while Linda, Bruce’s lady friend and partner, resides in Capitola. But the visiting distance is manageable and together they undertake extensive road trips into the wilderness several times each year. In October they will hike in Arizona and New Mexico and spend a week in their beloved Santa Fe.
As you can see, Bruce Worden is a multi-faceted, talented guy with a big heart. (And he also has tech skills. )

P.S. Bruce says Linda can regularly out-hike him, but she’ll wait up.

If YOU would be willing to be interviewed for an upcoming Neighbor Spotlight, please contact Cathy Fairfield.

WORDS TO PONDER (SubmittedbyGinaDrummond)
Someone sent this to me recently and I thought it was worthy of sharing, especially since we live in this community where we experience departures frequently.
Death Is Nothing At All (by Henry Scott-Holland)
Death is nothing at all. It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened.
Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.
All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Our Monthly Newsletter and Annual Residents Directory are printed material paid for and produced by the Brookwood Social Club and distributed to all residents, regardless of whether you’re a Social Club member or not. These are good tools but not enough to cover anything really current because newsletters are written a month ahead of time, and the directory is currently printed once per year. For the most current updates on events, news, and directory updates, we urge you to join our Brookwood E-mail Distribution List so you can receive up-to-date information between Newsletter and Directory publications. How to solve sudoku puzzles
No math is required to solve a sudoku. You only need logic and patience.
Simply make sure that each 3x3 square region has only one instance of the numbers 1-9. Similarly, each number can only

appear once in a column or row in the larger grid. The difficulty on this puzzle is easy.

The Lighter Side
Leather
When a woman wears leather clothing, a man's heart beats faster. His throat gets dry. He gets weak in the knees and begins to think irrationally.
Ever wonder why?
She smells like a new truck!
Old man
He was eating lunch at a truck stop when three bikers walked in. The first pushed his cigarette into the old man's pie, then took a seat at the counter.
The second spit in the old man's milk, then took a seat at the counter. The third turned his plate over and then took a seat at the counter.
The old man left without a word. One of the bikers said to the waitress, "Humph, not much of a man is he?"
The waitress replied: "Not much of a truck driver either. He just backed his truck over three motorcycles."
What to do
An elderly couple just bought cellphones and learned how to text. She was the romantic type and one afternoon sent him this message.
"If you are sleeping, send me your dreams.
If you are laughing, send me your smile.
If you are eating, send me a bite.
If you are drinking, send me a sip.
If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you."
The husband texted back to her: "I'm in the bathroom. Please advise."
