ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION: Alcohol is NOT allowed in the pool/jacuzzi area. That applies to the Clubhouse, any common area or the grounds of the Clubhouse. Anyone caught bringing alcohol to these facilities will receive a warning. Let’s be mindful of the Rules of the Park. DOG WASTE IN POOL TRASH: We have recently received complaints regarding unpleasant odors coming from the trash receptacles in the pool area. It appears that someone has been disposing of dog waste in these trash bins. The pool area is intended to be a clean, relaxing place where everyone can enjoy the beautiful Southern California sunshine. To help keep it that way, please do not dispose of dog waste in the pool deck trash receptacles. Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep our community clean and enjoyable for everyone.
ITEMS LEFT IN POOL AREA: Any towels or swimming floaties left in the pool area will be removed and trashed within 24 Hours. So please remember to take all personal belongings before you leave, otherwise we will dispose of them within the next 24-48 hours, or the next business day. YARD CLEANUP: We remind the residents to clean up their yards with overgrown weeds, trees & bushes. Trim trees that are overflowing into neighbor’s yards and palm tree branches taking over your yard. According to our Park Rules and Lease Agreement, all yards must be kept weed-free and all trees and bushes kept trimmed. In order to improve the appearance of our park, management will be issuing Park Violation notices throughout the park. All required maintenance must be completed within 14 days. CLUBHOUSE RESTROOMS: The final phase of the clubhouse renovation has already been started but to those unaware, we are updating both restrooms between the manager’s office and billiards room. We apologize since this magazine will most likely be released by the time the bathrooms are finished or close to being completed. We hope the new restroom style is to everyone’s liking but we do apologize for both being down for the majority of August and into September.

Social and Homeowners Committee Meeting Minutes Los Amigos Mobile Home Park – July 21, 2026 Officers’ Present: Chuck Warner, Chairman, Social Committee Gary Doble, Vice-Chairman, Social Committee Jill Green, Secretary, Social Committee Officer’s Absent Jim Fivash, Treasurer, Social Committee Jeanne Fivash, Residents Liaison-absent Park Residents in attendance – 17 Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm – Pledge of Allegiance led by Chuck Treasurers Report: Chuck gave the Treasurers Report –approved Chairmans Report - Old Business Revisited Night of History HB. The date was not yet set, and Jim has not been contacted. We have two dinners left for the year, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Due to holidays being busy for everyone there will not be any Bingo for November/December. Will start up again in January 2027 depending on the schedule for bathroom remodel since there would be no bathrooms available during any events/activities. Bathroom remodel is scheduled for early 2027. Date to be announced Byran is still considering tinting the window in the clubhouse. - New Business Ricky inquired about a possible 50th Los Amigos Park anniversary and Jeanne was going to be asked to contact Bryan. Linda, Space 38, inquired about a "Coffee Klatch" for the near future. Possibly another Meet and Greet. There was concern regarding lack of community participation as well as new residents. Huntington Beach Celebrates 250 Years of Independence In July I was asked by a friend to join a group of people who had organized to create a float they had entered in the annual Fourth of July parade to celebrate the semi quincentennial of our country. Their theme was “WE THE PEOPLE”, and with a week remaining before the 4th, they were short on Redcoats and Continental soldiers. I told my friend I would join them as a Continental soldier, and Jo was able to locate a uniform at Michael’s for the reasonable price of $20. She used her considerable costuming skills to convert a cheap $3 black cowboy hat into the tricorne hat that was worn by both sides during the Revolutionary War. Michaels wanted $25 for their Tricorne hats! All told, there were over 30 of us in costume and ready to march. Among our participants were King George and Queen Charlotte, George and Martha Washington, John and Abigail Adams, Thomas Paine, Daniel Boone, Paul Revere on horseback, Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, Lady Liberty, British Lobsterbacks, Continentals, and many women (all in cumbersome period dress!). Everyone walked. The only ones who rode on the float and sat were Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross, sewing our first flag on her lap. The woman who drove the float were also head to toe in period garb! At 6:30 AM we all assembled at King George’s house on Pammy Lane, where the float was located. We were staged on PCH by 7:00 AM where the floats were to be judged. Lots of “hurry up and wait”, with myriad people non-stop posing with us for pics and video of the decorated float and all the characters. Parade entrants lined both sides of PCH from Main clear on down to Goldenwest. We had lots of time before the start. I was able to walk down to Goldenwest visiting and chatting with the other entrants such as Jake and Elwood of the Blues Brothers, the Submariners, and the members of the Taiwanese Float. It rained a bit while I was doing this! Our float didn’t start moving until 10:15 or so, and we marched until about 12:30. It was wonderful, exhilarating, and a lot of fun waving to the boisterous crowd, high fiving little kids and teenagers, fist-bumping the adults. Paul Revere would gallop ahead yelling, “The British are coming, the British are coming!”, while exhorting the crowd to BOO! King George, who was constantly stirring up the crowd a ‘la “Hamilton” with cries of “You’ll all come back to me! You won’t make it alone! You NEED me! You NEED England!”. The crowd booed lustily! It was hilarious!

By the time we reached Yorktown, we were all exhausted. The sun had come out shortly after the start, and it was HOT in those costumes. I was especially impressed by all the women in our group, whose period costumes made walking a real challenge! At the parade’s end I couldn’t move my arms. They were dead from all the waving and high fiving! The crowd was electric and decked out in all kinds of red, white, and blue. All Americans for a day. No partisanship. All one. For one day. I’m glad I said “yes” when they asked me to participate. *An unanticipated bonus: we won the trophy for the “Most Patriotic” entry!

July Barbeque We held our Fourth of July barbeque on Saturday, July 11th, with 64 residents attending. Guests enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs with chili, baked beans, potato salad, fruit salads, cake, ice cream, and cookies. The music makers led everyone in several of our favorite patriotic sing-alongs. The winner of the 50-50 received over $100, and there was a raffle with many items including gift cards. It was a fun-filled afternoon enjoyed by all. Thank you to the kitchen crew, our BBQ chiefs, Juan who set up tables, and everyone who helped set up and clean up. All in all, it was a successful celebration of our country’s 250th birthday.

Labor Day Holiday Fun Facts The Labor Day holiday grew out of the late 19th century organized labor movement, and it quickly became a national holiday as the labor movement assumed a prominent role in American society. Here’s how it all started, with the facts, as we know them, supplied by the Labor Department, the Library of Congress, and other sources. 1. The idea first became public in 1882. In September 1882, the unions of New York City decided to have a parade to celebrate their members being in unions, and to show support for all unions. At least 20,000 people were there, and the workers had to give up a day’s pay to attend. There was also a lot of beer involved in the event. 2. The New York parade inspired other unions. Other regions started having parades, and by 1887, Oregon, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Colorado made Labor Day a state holiday. 3. How did the Haymarket Affair influence Labor Day? On May 4, 1886, a bomb exploded at a union rally in Chicago’s Haymarket Square, which led to violence that killed seven police officers and four others. The incident also led to May 1st being celebrated in most nations as Workers Day. The U.S. government chose Labor Day instead to avoid a celebration on May 1st, and New York’s unions had already picked the first Monday in September for their holiday. 4. Two people with similar names are credited with that first New York City event. Matthew Maguire, a machinist, and Peter McGuire, a carpenter, have been linked to the 1882 parade. The men were from rival unions; in 2011, Linda Stinson, a former U.S. Department of Labor’s historian, said she didn’t know which man should be credited – partially because people over the years confused them because of their similar-sounding names. 5. Grover Cleveland helped make Labor Day a national holiday. After violence related to the Pullman railroad strike, President Cleveland and lawmakers in Washington wanted a federal holiday to celebrate labor and not a holiday celebrated on May 1st. Cleveland signed an act in 1894 establishing the federal holiday; most states had already passed laws establishing a Labor Day holiday by the point. Sen, James Henderson Kyle of South Dakota introduced S. 730 to make Labor Day a federal legal holiday on the first Monday of September. It was approved on June 28, 1894.

6. The holiday has evolved over the years. In the late 19th century, celebrations focused on parades in urban areas. Now the holiday is a celebration that honors organized labor with fewer parades, and more activities. 7. Can you wear white after Labor Day? This old tradition goes back to the late Victorian era, where it was a fashion faux pas to wear any white clothing after the summer officially ended on Labor Day. The tradition isn’t really followed anymore. EmilyPost.com explains the logic behind the fashion trend-white indicated you were still in vacation mode at your summer cottage. 8. Labor Day is the unofficial end of Hot Dog season. The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council says that between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Americans will eat 7 billion hot dogs. 9. How many people are union members: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 14.8 million members in the workforce in 2017. 10. What is the biggest union today? The National Education Association has about 3 million people who are members, including inactive and lifetime members.

RECIPE CORNER Strawberry Fluff
Servings: 10 servings Ingredients • 1 cup plain yogurt • 1 small box strawberry Jell-O • 10 ounces mini marshmallows • 8 ounces whipped topping thawed • 3 cups of chopped strawberries Instructions 1. Combine Jell-O and yogurt in a large bowl until smooth. 2. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. 3. Garnish with additional strawberries if desired. Notes 1 can of crushed pineapple (drained) can be added if desired.

Ingredients: 1 cup corn flakes, finely crushed 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1 packet ranch dressing mix 8 boneless chicken breasts, cut in half 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix corn flakes, cheese, and dressing mix in a bowl until blended. Dip thawed chicken in butter and then roll in corn flake mixture. Place coated chicken in 9"x13" greased baking pan. Bake for about 45 minutes or until chicken is thoroughly cooked.
