Reader Response

From time to time we like to reach out to readers to gather feedback. This time we are

to learn more about what advertisers or services you would like to see in your magazine.

You could let us know any of the following: A specific business (we would need their name and contact info), a type of business that you would like or a company you have used.

We do all of this to make sure we are providing you with access to companies that can help you in any number of ways. This is critical to the success of the magazine for both readers and advertisers. That is the partnership that has worked for over 40 years and still works today.

We would like to offer an incentive to any new advertiser you help us to get to advertise. For any new advertiser who wants to come on board we can offer a 10% discount on all 6 and 12 month ad contracts. The only condition is that they have never advertised before. We want new companies who can learn the benefits of advertising in your magazines.

We can be reached by email at readerresponse@mobilehomeparkmagazines.com or via phone (800)-828-8242 x3107.

LIFE IS GOOD JUNE 2024

Snow in Ventura. Who

Photos by Joe Palermo Pic from Tom Gaither Picture submitted by Mike StaffordCrane

GEMINI 2004 Until May 26, you'll be fine-tuning your strategies. An unexpected event supports the realization of an ideal in May. Starting May 26, Jupiter enters your sign, initiating a new cycle of expansion. However, don't overestimate your abilities because the second half of the year is less supportive of your desires. You can't ignore your responsibilities and duties that hold you back. Be patient, don't rush things, and temper your ego's desire for recognition. You can only achieve your ambitions by fully embracing the responsibilities that come with them.

You're finally moving forward; Jupiter opens new perspectives and recharges your energy. You make a strong restart and achieve long-desired goals in June. Slow down a bit between June 9 and July 20, take some time for reflection and rest.

CANCER 2024 Venus may bring amazing harmony in your love life and relationship matters. But North Node may make over ambitious and force you to take undue risk which can be very disruptive for your financial planning. Your education is going to be blessed by the favorable impact of Jupiter. This can be a good phase for your overall health as well.

Saturn influences your professional and possibly your destiny. It rewards your efforts if you've taken on responsibilities without hesitation. Conversely, if you haven't followed ethical principles, Saturn will step in. It all depends on your attitude towards authority, colleagues, and your commitment. Expect slowdowns in August and December; Saturn tests your sincerity and skills. If you've played fair, these obstacles will appear as tests of your patience in the face of life's challenges. If you try to push through, beware. Mars sharpens your ambitions in March, fills you with fighting spirit in April, and helps you push your projects in May. It's not about giving up but rather charging ahead carefully.

Mars around the month of June indicates the perfect time to really make a statement at your work place and in your business too. Venus will give an upward push to your finances. Some recent issues might cause a bit of a disruptions in your love life. Saturn will bring your focus on improving your habits and switching to a healthier lifestyle.

Mars will help you to maintain enthusiasm by engaging yourself regularly in some physical activities or exercise. Saturn will bring some fresh challenges at your work place and if you are doing business, some difficulties are likely to frustrate you around the month of August. The environment looks set to be challenging for your financial status as well. Good thing is that the Venus will provide you enough strength to deal with some complicated matters effectively as the period progresses. Presence of malefic influences of shadow planets may keep you worried about your relationship though.

WELL-BEING: WATCH OUT FOR FRUSTRATION!

While Jupiter invites you to replenish your energy reserves at the beginning of the year, you must navigate a more challenging second half. Tensions will test your ability to handle them without rebellion, risking the loss of vital energy. Face challenges wisely to gain valuable lessons and avoid frustration that could harm your physical and mental well-being.

Saturn indicates the time to take a pause in your personal life. Venus will provide you the chances to have some connections beyond your own social circle during the latter part of this year. Around the end of this year, Jupiter would bring some moments of amusement and bliss and it could also lead you towards growth in your profession. Saturn demands to you to be ready to accept the new challenges and tasks in your studies. If you are suffering from any ailments, this phase will help you to recover fast. This period may provide you the opportunities to resolve some pending matters if you are doing business. Venus can make the period around December a special for love and relationship. It would be a good opportunity to display your love and devotion. Mars will bring enthusiasm and you will be feeling flirty and ready to embark on some new romantic experience.

Spring Break in Minnesota? Are you kidding??

I’m sure that’s what my wife Sarah was thinking when I proposed going to Duluth and Minneapolis for Spring Break. Like, don’t most go to Florida, duh! Even better I convinced my sister and her husband from Tucson to go with us! So, what gives?

On a previous RV trip to Duluth, we were awed watching the huge cargo ships go under the Aerial Lift Bridge from Lake Superior into ports to fill load their cargos of iron ore and grains. These huge 1,000-foot-long ships take talented captains to maneuver through a tight passageway. Like the ship in Baltimore, things can go wrong.

Duluth, April 4th

Our choice of hotel is South Pier Inn, basically located at the base of the Aerial Lift Bridge. You can almost touch the ships going through. Check out Harbor Cam Lake Superior on YouTube. This morning, we watched the American Integrity ship leave with a cargo of iron ore.

Next, we explored North Shore Drive out of Duluth and visited the Split Rock Lighthouse and Gooseberry Falls State Park. Both are worthy of the stop. For lunch we dined at the Rustic Inn and we feasted on Betty’s pies. Northshore Berry, Strawberry Rhubarb, Cherry Peach and Pecan pie were our picks out of 22 choices!

For overlooking city views of Duluth, we climbed up Enger’s Tower and visited downtown Raddison’s 360-degree rotating rooftop bar. Spectacular evening views! At 10:30 pm the Paul J Martin Canadian ship entered the harbor heading to load up cargo. As ships come and go the Aerial Lift Bridge needs to be raised and lowered at ships’ requests. It’s a very well-coordinated activity that goes like clockwork. It must.

Minneapolis April 11 -12th

On the drive south from Duluth to Minneapolis, we pulled over for gas and we happened onto a White Castle hamburger joint inside the gas station! They tasted like hamburgers made in heaven! Some of you may know of White Castle, they coined the term – sliders.

4
American Integrity ship leaves Duluth Harbor GooseberryFalls Split Rock Lighthouse Aerial Lift Bridge in Duluth Downtown Minneapolis Sculpture

In Minneapolis, we visited the old Stone Arch Bridge, Mill City Museum where Wheaties was invented by mistake. Back in the early 1900’s there were several grain mill companies. Later it ended up with Gold Medal Flour and Pillsbury taking over the smaller companies. We visited the famous Mall of America, but it was underwhelming as many tenants have departed.

Matt’s Bar is famous for their invention of the Jucy Lucy hamburger. Search Jucy Lucy on YouTube. This hamburger is two patties with cheese stuffed in the middle. The perimeter of the hamburger is completely sealed so the cheese oozes out like a volcano when you take the first bite. The cheese is as hot as lava. Very, very delicious! Doesn’t matter when you get there, the line is out the door.

St. Paul April 13th The Frozen Four

The main reason for the trip was for the Frozen Four. You might have watched the NCAA basketball March Madness. The Frozen Four is the NCAA hockey championship game. The game was played in the Xcel Energy Stadium where the Minnesota Wild pro hockey team plays. The match was the heavily favored Boston College versus the University of Denver. Almost Samson and Goliath like. The University of Denver won 2-0! Unbelievable upset!

Other top stops we made was the State Capitol Building, St. Mary’s Basilica, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Harriet Island Regional Park, Scheels Sporting Goods store, Moe’s Burger Bar and Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse. This Spring Break was full of fabulous scenery, shopping, historical sites, Frozen Four and the yummy Jucy Lucy!

Duck Derby 2024

Thank you to everyone who made Duck Derby 2024 such a successful event. This is a large event which takes many hours of preparation and hard work from so many volunteers throughout Lemon Wood. There are lots of aspects of it that all have to work together to make this fun event come together on the day.

The weather could have been a little warmer for sure, but at least it wasn’t raining or very windy, so we should be thankful for that. People were still able to enjoy themselves as they ate hotdogs and popcorn, and rented ducks then cheered them on in the races. There were many contestants for the hat contests, so thanks to all who made the effort to decorate a hat as they were all marvelous to look at and definitely added to the atmosphere.

Nearly 200 hotdogs were cooked and over 120 bags of popcorn were popped, and all the ducks, both regular and the high rollers were rented. The Opening and Closing ceremonies were fun to watch as first Sir Quacks-a-lot and then later the winners majestically paraded under the archway of duck wranglers and their poles, and thanks to Don Baughn for his magnificent rendition of The Star Spangled Banner on his trumpet.

Duck Derby certainly takes a village to organize. Thanks to the duck renters, the duck wranglers, the duck pluckers, the publicity people, the duck master, the duck empress, the scorekeepers/prize dispensers, the popcorn poppers, the hat contest organizer and judges, the emcee, the bbq cookers and servers, the lake duck inflaters, the stream cleaners, and the host of volunteers that helped bring supplies down from the storeroom, set up before the event and then clean up afterwards so that it looked like nothing had ever happened in Shelley Circle. Thank you to each and every one of you. And finally thank you to all the residents and their friends and family who came out to support this wonderful event. Rest up and we hope to see you next year!

The Lighter Side

Observations

*Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.

*The trouble with doing something right the first time is that nobody realizes how hard it was.

*If you go overboard for what you believe in, you won't drown.

*Lead me not into temptation. I can find the way myself.

*There's nothing wrong with underachievement. It just doesn't pay very well.

* The stuff written in fine print is never good news.

Funny Father's Day

How did the dad and his kids watch the fishing show on Father's Day? They live streamed it.

Why didn't the dad want to swim with the sharks on Father's Day? It would cost him an arm and a leg.

Why don’t they have Father’s Day sales? Because fathers are priceless.

What’s the best thing a new dad can get for Father’s Day? A long nap.

How much did the son charge his dad for fixing his roof on Father's Day? Nothing, it was on the house!
