The way you’re being billed for electricity is about to change. Due to a law passed in 2022—AB 205—you’ll see a new “Base Services Charge” of $24.15. The goal: “to make it more affordable to use electric technologies and clean, sustainable energy.”
We’re told that, as a trade-off, the cost of your actual usage will go down, possibly by 10%. The result: low electricity users might pay more, “medium” users about the same, but high electric users might save money. That’s how I understand it, anyway.
Folks on the CARE Program get a discount on this new charge, so it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re enrolled, if you qualify. You can find out about that at sdge.com/CARE or sdge.com/FERA. As usual, we’re just the messenger here.
Secretary of State, William Seward negotiated the U.S. purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867 for $7.2 million (less than 2cents per acre) in a deal nicknamed Seward’s Folly. The formal transfer took place on October 18, 1867.
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Dean Brown (Sp. 108). Dean and his wife Vicky moved into the Park in July 1999, two years before our purchase.
Per Renee: “Dean was a friend to many and was such a kind, knowledgeable person. We’ll think of him every day we’re at the Pool. We sure do miss you, Dean.” Please offer your condolences to Vicky for her loss.
Seminar on Oct. 9, just in time for open enrollment. No lunch this time, but there will be refreshments.
Medicare is complicated, so a refresher course might be worth your time. Thanks to Stacee & the folks at SPARC for sponsoring.
Think It Will Work This Time?
Excerpt from my June 2022 Memo: “Patrick painted a few Stop Signs on the street as an experiment, hoping that might slow down RV’s speeders. Let’s hope that works.”
Here’s my October 2025 update: “Patrick put up some additional Stop Signs on cones at high traffic intersection. Let’s hope that works.” Hey hope springs eternal.
You know that speeding and running Stop Signs is dangerous, right? You’re scaring folks that like to walk Rancho Vallecitos’ beautiful streets, you won’t really save much time…please be careful at least while you’re driving in the Park.
This reminds me of my late father, and how slowly he would drive so slowly, in fact, that when we were on the freeway, even Amish people would honk. OK, you can go a bit faster than he did, but please Drive Safely!
Watch your speed and have fun at Halloween Bash!

Happy Fall! Soon we will be enjoying more Holidays – Thanksgiving and Christmas. Here is a reminder of the Park rules regarding visitors and more.
- Visitors must be accompanied by a Resident when, taking a walk, enjoying the pool or spa, playing pool, or relaxing in the Clubhouse.
- Pool hours are 8 AM to 10 PM
- Children’s pool hours are 10 AM to 1 PM.
To clarify the specifics of the Children’s Pool hours. Children are not permitted inside the gates to the pool before 10 AM and Children must be completely out of the pool area by 1 PM. There are signs on the wall near the SPA that are very clear about the rules.
Here are a few FYI reminders for everyone:
SOLICITORS ARE NOT PERMITTED WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE MANAGEMENT OFFICE.
Contractors/repair personnel hired by Residents are permitted to work between the hours of 8 AM and 6PM. All materials should be removed from the Park by the vendor, not deposited in the dumpsters, this includes trimmings from trees and any landscaping materials. Vendor vehicles should not be parked across the street from one another. Emergency vehicles must be able to get through.
Residents should NEVER give the restroom codes to outside contractors/repair personnel.
The final phase of street lighting is ongoing and barring any problems should be completed in 5/6 weeks. It is a noisy and dusty project, but it will be worth it, be patient.
If you have questions or concerns, your Resident Advocate Group, Debbie, Leanne, Rod, and Lee, give us a call. Also, the Park rules are available on the website: millenniumhousing.net.
Click on Communities then Rancho Vallecitos. The user ID: VALLECITOS (all caps), Password: VIEW (all caps).
Until next time, don’t hesitate to call, text, or email any member of the R.A.G. team, we are ready and willing to listen to your concerns and answer your questions.
Our numbers are on the Who’s Who page in THE VIEW.

Scammers are getting more and more creative. We must be cautious when replying to phone calls and emails. Remember that Social Security and the IRS will only contact you by mail. Lately, there have been calls offering huge sums of money that would not have to be paid back, offering to cancel college debt, great deals for auto repairs, and the list goes on and on. Also, and this is very important, when a scammer calls you and says, is this _____ DO NOT SAY “YES”, THIS WILL GET YOU PHONE NUMBER ON AN ACTIVE LIST AND YOU WILL RECEIVE MORE AND MORE CALLS. In 2024, Americans lost $47 billion to scams, and Seniors are a major target. Be suspicious!
As always, please remember to LOCK UP YOUR CAR(S), LOCK THE DOORS OF YOUR HOME AND SHED, AND LIGHT UP YOUR DRIVEWAY. There are lots of battery-operated motion lights available that might help deter prowlers. Leaving the porch light on overnight will light up your driveway and cost less than the items you could lose if they are stolen.
If you need help, or solicitors are knocking on doors, or there is a suspicious vehicle driving around, we will do our best to locate those individuals and have them leave the property. We cannot effectively accomplish this if our Residents do not call us, call the Management Office, call the Sheriff, and the Security service, IN THE MOMENT, meaning immediately after you close and lock your door. The phone numbers are in the View Magazine every month.
As always, we of the Neighborhood Watch Team will continue to be vigilant for our neighborhood and hope more neighbors will join us in that effort.
For more information, please feel free to call your Block Leader or me, Lee @ 760-597-7010.
