The

Report by Bobbie Wendschlag #149
Hello everyone... hope you are all staying dry. March really did come in like a lion this year!! Now, we'll just move on into April. Good news!! Mel Dailey is back home after having therapy for his fall. His daughter’s visit has been a great comfort for him. Kitty Lynn said a sad good bye to her dear sister last month, and is back home. Former neighbor Martha Bothelio who lived in Space 81 has passed away following a Stroke. We send our love and prayers to her family and friends. If you have any information that you want to include in the magazine, just give me a call.... 925-989-6810. We are still keeping those dealing with health issues in our hearts and prayers. Stay strong... we love you!!
Vera Pierce handles the loaning of mobility & other health devices. People haven’t been returning these items when they are no longer needed. Also, electric-battery operated carts will no longer be available for loaning.

If I had my life to live over, I'd dare to make more mistakes. I'd relax, I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have been this trip. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I'd have fewer imaginary ones. You see, I'm one of those people who lived sensibly and sanely, hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I've had my moments, and if I had to do it over again, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd try to have nothing else. Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day. I've been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat and a parachute. If I had to do it again, I would travel lighter than I have. If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies.

A couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a check-up, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember.
Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair 'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks.
'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?'
'Sure.'
'Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks.
'No, I can remember it.'
'Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?'
He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.'
'I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?' she asks.
Irritated, he says, 'I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness’ sake!'
Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment.
'Where's my toast?'

Thoughts on Spring
You can cut all the flowers, but you cannot keep Spring from coming. Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s have a party!” – By Robin
Williams
Sunshine is the best medicine.
It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just somewhat makes your heartache, you want it so!
If we had no winter, the Spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
If you’ve never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom.
The first day of Spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as significant as a month.
Hello Spring, we missed your green grass, warm sunshine, and beauty.

Intermittent fasting is not a diet—it’s a pattern of eating. What is fasting and what is intermittent fasting? Fasting is eliminating food and only drinking liquids. Intermittent fasting is eliminating food for different amounts of time. If I’m a diabetic, can I do intermittent fasting? We will answer this question and more. Fasting, by definition is to abstain from something. In our case, fasting is abstaining from food for a period of time. Won’t I get really hungry? The answer is yes and no. Initially, you will feel hungry, however that hunger will subside by simply drinking water when you are hungry. Within seconds the hunger pangs will disappear.

Why does fasting work? What is the science behind fasting? The science behind fasting can be found in the following book, entitled, “The Complete Guide to Fasting,” by Doctors Jason Fung, and Jimmy Moore. You can find the book at Amazon for $19.55 new, and used for as little as $9.04. Use the following URL address on Amazon.
What does Intermittent Fasting do?
1) It will increase your white blood cells.
2) It will strength your immune system.
3) It will shrink inflammation. So, it is good for arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis, any of the itis.
4) It is a powerful stimulator of something called autophagy, which is the recycling of old damaged cells, like your skin, hair, nails, your organs. It is one of the most powerful stimulators of growth hormones. Growth hormones is all about fat burning, and it’s all about anti-aging. Exercising alone can increase the growth hormones by about 750%. Fasting can increase growth hormones by 2,000,000%. So why would anyone even hesitate from doing intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting can help to increase your mood. So, let’s say you have depression or anxiety, fasting can elevate your mood. Intermittent fasting helps regrow brain cells, improves memory, concentration and focus. Intermittent fasting is beneficial, if not essential for people with Parkinson’s Dementia and one of the best ways to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. It can also improve metabolism, giving you faster metabolism. Faster metabolism burns more calories. (YAY)
Eating causes a blood sugar spike, if you don’t eat, you no longer have these spikes, so a Diabetic will actually have better blood sugar control by fasting. There are different kinds of intermittent fasts, for example you could skip breakfast, which would give you approximately, a 16 hour fast. Maybe eliminating dinner which would mean you would fast from lunch to breakfast. Dinner is usually a time when people eat more, and because it is dinner, people have less time to burn the calories eaten, causing weight issues. The best way to tell if your fast is working is that you will stop being hungry. When you discover you aren’t hungry, you can eliminate another meal, so that you eliminate one meal and if you aren’t hungry, you can eliminate another meal.

You could join Hacienda’s exercise group on Mondays & Fridays at 10:30 to 11:30.
