YOU ARE HERE.

PERSONAL STATEMENT.

I SEEK OUT CHALLENGES. I THINK THE RICHNESS OF ARCHITECTURE STEMS FROM ITS COMPLEXITY. THE NEED FOR COLLABORATION AND CONSTANT PROBLEM SOLVING CREATES AN ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH I THRIVE. MY GREATEST PASSION IS DESIGN. THROUGH THE PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE I HAVE BEEN ABLE COMBINE MY INTERESTS OF SERVING OTHERS, ADVOCATING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, AND ENGAGING IN RESEARCH. LET’S MAKE SOMETHING AMAZING. I WANT TO USE MY KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTH AND ARCHITECTURE TO ARTFULLY SHAPE SPACES IN A WAY THAT POSITIVELY IMPACTS ALL USERS.

GRADUATE GIS WORK MCMURDO STATION, ANTARCTICA PROFESSOR: ANDREW KLEIN OUTSIDE OF ARCHITECTURE, I STUDIED GEOGRAPHY AND URBAN PLANNING, IN WHICH I LEARNED HOW TO USE GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS.WHILE MAPPING STARTED AS A HOBBY, I HAVE FOUND IT EXTREMELY APPLICABLE TO ARCHITECTURE. I NOW USE GIS IN SCHEMATIC DESIGN, TO HELP INFORM ACCESS, ORIENTATION, ETC.

THIS PARTICULAR MAP WAS AN EXERCISE IN MAPPING BOTH RASTER AND VECTOR DATA, AND ILLUSTRATES DIFFERENT POLLUTANT LEVELS SURROUNDING THE AMERICAN RESEARCH STATION IN ANTARCTICA.

COMMUNITY HEALTH BOONE, NORTH CAROLINA 2017 PARTNER- LAM NGUYEN PROFESSORS- DAVID ALLISON + BYRON EDWARDS THIS YEAR LONG PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TOWN OF BOONE BEGAN WITH AN EXPLORATION OF THE PROPOSED WELLNESS DISTRICT, AN AREA ADJACENT TO BOONE MEDICAL CENTER, AND CHANGES IN ZONING. AFTER THREE TOWN HALL MEETINGS, THERE WAS PRODUCTIVE DIALOGUE ABOUT GROWING PEDESTRIAN USE, MIXED USE SPACES, AND STRIVING FOR A COHESIVE IDENTITY.

THE FOLLOWING SEMESTER, WE FOCUSED ON A MASTER PLAN OF THE WATAUGA MEDICAL CENTER. THE ORIGINAL HILL-BURTON HOSPITAL HAD SEEN INCREMENTAL GROWTH. NOW, THE ORIGINAL BUILDING HAS REACHED IT’S USEFUL LIFE END, BUT IS COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY ADDITIONS. THE PROPOSAL HERE INCLUDES PHASING TO ADDRESS DEMOLITION OF THE ORIGINAL HILL-BURTON HOSPITAL, WHILE MAINTAINING USE OF THE FACILITY, AND MOVING TOWARDS THE SAME GOALS ESTABLISHED IN THE WELLNESS DISTRICT NARRATIVE.

UNDERGRADUATE MEDIA-LAB HTX HOUSTON,TX FALL 2014 PARTNER PROJECT WITH ALYSSA GAINER PROFESSOR- MARCEL ERMINY THIS INTEGRATED STUDIO PROJECT INVOLVED DEVELOPING THE ARCHITECTURE, STRUCTURE AND SYSTEMS OF A MEDIA LAB LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON.

LOOKING AT THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MEDIA AND THE URBAN LANDSCAPE, WE CHOSE TO INVESTIGATE MULTIPOLARITY. THIS CONCEPT ALLOWED US TO EXPRESS VARIOUS OPPOSING AND RELATED FORCES WITHIN THE URBAN FABRIC BY ALLOWING THEM INFORM DESIGN DECISIONS SUCH AS FORM AND THE BALANCE OF POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE SPACE.

IN THIS WAY, MEDIA-LAB HTX IS BOTH REACTIVE, BY RESPONDING TO THE METRO LINE AND SURROUNDING HISTORICAL BUILDINGS, WHILE ALSO BEING A CATALYST FOR CREATION, BY ENCOURAGING NEW MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY AS WELL AS POSITIVE ARCHITECTURAL INTERVENTION WITHIN HOUSTON’S INNER LOOP.

THROUGHOUT PRODUCTION, ALYSSA GAINER AND I COLLABORATED BY COMPLETING SEPARATE PLANS THEN SWITCHING FOR EDITS AND POST-PROCESSING. WORK DRAWN AND POST-PROCESSED BY MYSELF INCLUDES ALL RENDERINGS, SECTIONS, AND DETAIL DRAWINGS. CONCEPTUAL DIAGRAMS WERE ALSO WORKED ON BY BOTH ALYSSA AND MYSELF.

THE INTERFACE TEXAS A&M CAMPUS FALL 2013 PARTNER PROJECT WITH ETHAN MILLER PROFESSOR- CRAIG BABE THE INTERFACE SERVES AS A LINK BETWEEN THE THREE DISCONJOINED BUILDINGS WITHIN THE LANGFORD ARCHITECTURE COMPLEX. THIS ADDITION AIMS TO CONNECT NOT ONLY THESE STRUCTURE BUT ALLOW FOR MORE SOCIAL INTERATION. BY INCREASING CHANCE ENCOUNTERS THROUGH A COMMUNICATIVE STAIR AND LAYERING OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SPACE, THE SPACE TAKES AN ENVIRONMENT OF SLEEPY STUDENTS AND MAKES IT ENERGETIC.

DIAGRAMS AND SECTIONS WERE PRODUCED BY BOTH ETHAN AND MYSELF. EACH PARTNER COMPLETED TWO RENDERINGS. FINAL PLANS WERE COMPLETED WERE COMPLETED BY MYSELF, AND MODEL PHOTOGRAPHY WAS DONE BY ETHAN MILLER.
