KEYNOTE SPEAKER Mary Sullivan Smith, DNP, RN, NEA-BC CNO, New England Baptist Hospital

Mary Sullivan Smith, DNP, RN, NEA-BC is an accomplished healthcare executive with over 35 years of progressive clinical and administrative leadership experience. She joined the staff of New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) in 2009. She was appointed chief nursing officer in 2014 and subsequently chief operating officer in 2015. She serves on the NEBH Board of Trustees as a voting member.

Prior to joining NEBH, Mary was vice president, Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer at Tufts Medical Center. She holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the MGH Institute of Health Professions, a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from Lesley University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and a Diploma in Nursing from the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing.

Mary led the NEBH to achieve ANCC Magnet® Recognition in 2019. She is passionate about creating an environment of high reliability and staff and patient engagement.

Excellence in patient care delivery and patient experience are the cornerstones of her practice.

Dr. Sullivan Smith is a member of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, the American Nurses Association, the Organization of Nurse Leaders, MA, RI, NH, VT, CT., and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

STUDENT SPEAKER Stephanie Anne Pitts, DNP, MSN, RN, CPN, VA-BC™

Dr. Stephanie Pitts has 25 years of healthcare experience that has spanned expertise and research in pediatrics, emergency/trauma, vascular access and med-tech. Stephanie is focused on healthcare strategy, innovation, and policy in her executive role at B. Braun Medical and works to solve national complex healthcare challenges. She also works as a front-line pediatric nurse at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

Stephanie has multiple publications, focused on vascular access, that represent her passion and focus of providing safe vascular access care. Stephanie is certified in Pediatrics, Vascular Access and recently received her Nursing Executive Advanced Board Certification. She was also just listed as the MM+M Class of 2022 Women to Watch.

Stephanie lives in Tampa, Florida, with her husband Daniel and sons Dylan and Drew – dog Marley, cat Milo & 3 goats. She loves to water ski and her favorite treat is a vanilla iced donut!

The Herzlinger Prize, awarded in memory of Rebecca Colvin, is awarded annually to a DNP student in the School of Nursing for the development of an exceptional DNP Project. The Project selected for this prize best exemplifies creativity and originality.
