Awards and Recipients

Faculty and Student Recognition for Outstanding Leadership

This award is given to a student graduating from the accelerated baccalaureate nursing program who has been identified by peers and faculty as demonstrating outstanding class leadership.

Faculty Recognition for Academic/Clinical Excellence

This award is given to a student graduating from the Accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing program (ABSN) with an outstanding grade point average and the strongest faculty recommendations attesting to overall academic and clinical achievement.

Wetherill Award

Established at the McLean Hospital School of Nursing in 1936 and subsequently transferred to the MGH School of Nursing, the award was established with a gift from E. Stanley Abbott in memory of Marion Wetherill Abbott and her mother. The award is presented to a member of the graduating class who has been the most actuated throughout their course by their spirit of thoughtfulness for others or who have developed that spirit most while in the school.

Miriam Huggard Memorial Scholarship

This award was established by the MGH School of Nursing Alumni Association. Miriam “Mim” Huggard, a 1931 graduate of the MGH School of Nursing, spent her entire career at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Mim was a gracious and noble woman who embraced change. This award supports an ABSN student who demonstrates exemplary clinical skills and the core values of an exceptional nurse, leader, and mentor.

Maureen Ryan Community Health Nursing Scholarship

Latifat Raifu

This scholarship honors the life of Maureen Ryan, RN, a 2017 graduate of the IHP’s ABSN Program. Maureen was devoted to helping others in her community from a young age, first volunteering in the Alzheimer’s unit of a nursing home at thirteen years old and continuing this commitment throughout her life. This scholarship supports an ABSN student interested in working in public health or community health centers.

Belle Bouy Foundation Nursing Scholarship

Wilmarcus Narcisse

Established in 2023 by an alumna of the ABSN program, this scholarship supports an ABSN student who has experience or interest in working in global health.
