A vision to Educate for Eternity Claude “Bud” Schindler was a successful NCR executive when he heard God’s call to open the first Christian school in Greater Dayton. His desire was to create a school where students could excel in academics and learn how to stand on biblical truth. Dayton Christian School began with just one kindergarten class of 14 students in the facilities of Patterson Park Brethren Church under the name Patterson Park Christian School in 1963. Throughout the years, DC has flourished, expanding to 13 campuses across Greater Dayton and becoming one of the largest Christian school systems in the country.
In 2004, the school consolidated into one location, bringing students in Grades PreK-12 under one roof in a former NCR training facility in Miamisburg. Today, the campus in Southwest Ohio is home to more than 1,100 students in PreK-12 and boasts over 5,000 alumni. After six decades, DC continues to be a light to families seeking a strong partner in Christian education. Experiencing Life Through Our Belief in Jesus Christ Our core value of Unity is best seen in the community that has organically emerged among our parents, faculty, and staff. DC families represent more than 150 different churches in the Greater Dayton area, but they are united in their shared commitment to Jesus Christ. Students in Grades PreK-12 engage in learning, athletics, arts, and community life on one campus, creating a strong bond across grades and among their families. Organizations such as the Parent Teacher Organization and Athletic and Arts Boosters engage with hundreds of parents who serve alongside one another to bless DC faculty and staff.
Meanwhile, parents and grandparents are encouraged to get involved in their child’s school day by volunteering. These relationships are what draw DC families, alumni, and employees to fellowship outside of school hours whether it’s supporting the Warriors at a Friday night football game or enjoying our students’ theatrical talents at a fall play. Preparing for Kindergarten and Beyond We offer a kindergarten preparatory preschool that points children to Jesus and challenges their minds to grow. We use a balanced approach between structured learning and creative experiences to build upon the natural curiosity of each child. Our curriculum is built upon differential instruction, biblical integration, and experiential learning. We’re here when children are ready, beginning at just 30 months and offering 3-day and 5-day programs as well as full-day and half-day options. Students who begin their DC journey in our preschool program as a Wee Warrior are set up for success as they journey into elementary. In fact, DC Preschool students have consistently tested 10 points higher on the kindergarten entrance exam compared to students entering our kindergarten from other preschool programs. Preschool students learn in our PreK-K Wing where they engage in enrichment classes such as Spanish, American Sign Language, art, cooking, music, STEM, and physical education. They also benefit from important amenities in our K-12 program, including state-of-the-art security, cafeteria services, and our robust community life. Laying a Foundation for Success Dayton Christian Elementary is built on more than 60 years of rich tradition and is driven by the innovation needed to form tomorrow’s leaders. Our program helps students develop a love for learning and a conviction to stand upon God’s absolute truth. We offer a robust academic program taught by teachers who are focused on whole-child learning, proponents of differentiation, and passionate about biblical integration. Small class sizes provide the support students need to excel in core classes such as reading, social studies, and math. Students also engage in enrichment classes – including Spanish, STEM, music, cooking, art, and PE – that help them discover more ways in which God designed them.
We inspire students to hide God’s word in their hearts and to pursue their faith in action. Students memorize weekly Bible passages, pray in class, and attend weekly chapel services. They also develop an understanding of servant leadership as they participate in fundraising efforts for local faith-based, non-profit organizations in our community. Our elementary counselor helps students develop healthy study habits and learn how to be a positive contributor to DC’s culture. Guiding Toward Godly Independence Our middle school plays an integral role during one of the most critical times in a student’s emotional and social development. These are the grades where students begin to explore their independence and start to understand the responsibilities that lie ahead.
Our curriculum seeks to exceed state standards while courses are taught through a biblical worldview. Advanced learning in middle school is approached through teacher-driven instruction and differentiation. This allows DC to meet each student right where they are on their academic journey.

Discovering Gifts That Reflect God’s Character Many students at Dayton Christian discover their true God-given gifts through creative pursuits. In our robust arts program, students have the opportunity to explore industrial arts, media arts, theater, band, choir, and art. Students can find their artistic niche whether they dream of creating visual masterpieces, captivating audiences with their music, or expressing themselves through drama. Our art department has consistently garnered top awards at the Annual ACSI Art Show as well as individual praise with accolades such as the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Award. The DC Marching Band and Color Guard is one of our newest programs that is already receiving top honors. In 2023, the band was named Mid-States Band Association Class Champions. Meanwhile, students can choose to participate in our Chapel Worship Team or Resounding Joy, a select choir group that performs throughout the community.
The award-winning DC Theater Department has a long-standing history of delivering powerful performances through a fall drama and a spring musical. Past productions included beloved classics such as “Annie,” “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” and “Fiddler on the Roof” and often include students from all school levels. We proudly stand as one of the only Christian schools in Ohio to offer a four-year, career-centric Industrial Arts Program. This program is a favorite among students, some of which have discovered their calling into the trades upon graduation. Students begin with the fundamentals and progress into crafting furniture, mastering metalworking, and designing with cuttingedge CNC routers.
