GENERAL MANAGER

Joseph “JJ” Wagner General Manager jjwagner@minneapolisgolfclub.com 952.525.2526 Dear Members, At press time, the Staff is gearing up for our very busy Memorial Weekend. The weather should be lovely as we open the pool. I had my best day at MGC to date on Tuesday, May 24th, as I played my first round at MGC since I joined the team. I was fortunate enough to play beside Andy Bauer, Jared Keller and Dan Simpson. The course is simply magnificent and I cannot wait to get out there again. Kudos to Jared K. and his team. Also, the golf experience has been excellent as well, thanks to Dan and his staff. Our food and beverage staff has provided you with an upgraded experience and our new and “relevant” menu has been a hit. Thanks to Jared G. and Chef Tyler for their efforts. And when I refer to our menu … it’s just not the Grill menu that I am referring to… it’s also the Children’s menu, 6th Tee menu, Pool Menu, specials, etc. I’m also amazed at how well and how many weddings Nancy executes successfully. She does it with her eyes closed and she does it so well. The good news is that these weddings generate and assist with our overall F&B bottom line, many times producing annual profits for our operation. I’ve met and dealt with all Club committees to date and am amazed at their dedication to the Club and finding every way they can make it better. They have been on their respective committees for about six months into their annual term and I wanted to give them a shout-out. I wanted also to ensure you all knew who is doing such an excellent job on your behalf behind the scenes. I’m sure at times they’d rather be on the course or at their real jobs but instead, they are putting an excellent effort in for you. See the list of Committees and their members on the following pages.

Earlier this week, the Strategic Planning Committee sent out an excellent and extremely thorough update. One item from the Plan that I have been working on with a few different committees is improving our website, member emails, our cell phone app, etc. We know we can communicate better, and clearer and it should be easier to access. We are investigating a few other clubs that seem to be a step ahead of us on this subject. We will be in touch later on this front. On a personal note, Connie and I have found a beautiful home in Plymouth and plan on moving in around June 8th. It’s 10 minutes from our two, soon to be three, grandsons in Maple Grove and just 15 minutes from MGC! “Life is wonderful in God’s country”, as my father always told me. Cordially,

Joseph “JJ” Wagner

OTHER 1. Children under 12 years old on Club property must be attended by an adult at all times (except as provided in Pool Regulations). Members shall, at all times, be responsible for the behavior and safety of their children. Note: Advanced/accomplished junior golfers can play outside the Junior Golf Policy if approved by the golf staff. 2. Locker Room Junior Policy – All juniors 14 and under must be supervised by an adult at all times. Juniors 15 – 17 are welcome to change unsupervised. 3. RESERVATIONS: In order to insure that we are able to provide you with the best service possible, it is requested that you make dining reservations. 4. CANCELLATION POLICY Any cancellation or no show for a Club food event less than 72 hours in advance will be charged to the individual member. This will apply only to Club sponsored food events and the food portion of golf/food events. 5. STARTING TIMES A starting time is a precious commodity at MGC. A starting time is when you are to actually tee off, not when you are supposed to arrive at the tee. Members are requested to plan ahead, warm up, putt, etc. and arrive at the tee to register with the starter five (5) minutes before the tee time. 6. Members are responsible for the actions of their guests, including compliance with the requirements of the dress code, pace of play, care of the golf course, and use of the short range and driving range. 7. GOLF CARTS: Children without a driver’s license are not allowed to drive a cart at any time. It is REQUIRED that you follow the 90 degree rule, which means driving in the rough only and then crossing to your ball at a 90 degree angle to the direction of the fairway. DO NOT drive your golf cart within 10 yards of any green.

8. DRIVING RANGE Members and their guests must observe any and all posted restrictions when using the short range, the driving range, and the putting green. Failure to do so may result in the loss of the privilege to use the Club’s practice facilities; the loss of the ability to bring guests to the Club; the suspension of Membership privileges; and/or the termination of Membership, as decided in the sole and absolute discretion of the Board in accordance to the Bylaws. MGC is located in a residential neighborhood. For the safety and protection of our neighbors (and their property) & the well-being of the Club, HITTING GOLF BALLS OVER THE DRIVING RANGE NET IS STRICTLY AND ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES. Furthermore, members and their guests should avoid hitting balls into the net whenever possible. 9. POOL REGULATIONS Sign In/Out: All persons swimming or sunning must first register at the check-in kiosk. Guest fees will be handled here. For safety concerns, members and their guests will also need to check-out when leaving the pool area.

BOOK CLUB The MGC Book Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.. All ladies are welcome to join us! Feel free to email Katie Sisel at kdsisel@gmail.com for information about joining. June 2nd at 6:30 p.m. for dinner and discussion: The Tobacco Wives by Adele Myers About the Book: North Carolina, 1946. One woman. A discovery that could rewrite history. Maddie Sykes is a burgeoning seamstress who’s just arrived in Bright Leaf, North Carolina—the tobacco capital of the South—where her aunt has a thriving sewing business. After years of war rations and shortages, Bright Leaf is a prosperous wonderland in full technicolor bloom, and Maddie is dazzled by the bustle of the crisply uniformed female factory workers, the palatial homes, and, most of all, her aunt’s glossiest clientele: the wives of the powerful tobacco executives. But she soon learns that Bright Leaf isn’t quite the carefree paradise that it seems. A trail of misfortune follows many of the women, including substantial health problems, and although Maddie is quick to believe that this is a coincidence, she inadvertently uncovers evidence that suggests otherwise. Maddie wants to report what she knows, but in a town where everyone depends on Big Tobacco to survive, she doesn’t know who she can trust—and fears that exposing the truth may destroy the lives of the proud, strong women with whom she has forged strong bonds. Shedding light on the hidden history of women’s activism during the post-war period, at its heart, The Tobacco Wives is a deeply human, emotionally satisfying, and dramatic novel about the power of female connection and the importance of seeking truth.
