It’s Finally May Day! By Lauren Buck

May Day is an ancient festival that is a spring tradition. It is celebrated annually on May 1. We are celebrating this year on Friday, May 2nd. MFS celebrates May Day every four years. Many cultures celebrate May Day, but it is also a public holiday as well. The earliest festival was celebrated in pre-Christian times. It is a celebration of rebirth and fertility. Some of the traditions that are unique to the MFS May Day celebration are Human Chess, and the court and king and queen. The May Day king, queen and court are all seniors. A performance of Pyramus and Thisbe is also a favorite May Day tradition. The entire Moorestown Friends community will be coming together for this celebration.
