MEET YOU AT THE MANOR
Dine out in style
Eliza’s Manor, on Bealey Avenue, is now also home to an exciting new restaurant, Miro at the Manor.
One of Christchurch’s historical Victorian gems, Eliza’s Manor was recently purchased by well-known restaurateurs Francesca Voza and James Sumner, who opened the new restaurant there in early October.
Since arriving in New Zealand in 2010, Francesca and husband James have spread their passion for food and hospitality across the South Island, starting with a successful pizza food truck, and expanding to open and run multiple restaurants and bars.
They operate Miro out of one of Christchurch’s other historic gems, a terracotta-pink art deco building, and now its new o shoot Miro at the Manor.
Francesca says the success of Miro, blending the unique atmosphere of a bygone era with a sensational modern seasonal menu, encouraged the new venture, created to preserve, amplify and share the spirit of Eliza’s Manor.
With eight guest rooms, and in-house dining, Eliza’s Manor successfully blends past with present.
Heading the restaurant teams are Executive Chef Liam Summers, Head Chef Cameron Woodhouse, and Head Chef at Miro, Eeva Torvinen. Visit www.elizas.co.nz

Stocking up for Christmas
With the festive season upon us, Metropol writer Nicholas Henare reminisces and also looks ahead to some of the special whisky treats at Big Daddy’s Liquor.
Ihave memories of visiting my grandparents on Christmas day. Along with the usual festive cheer, myself and the cousins were allowed blackberry nip, a lower alcohol liqueur.
My grandfather would sit in his old recliner and drink whisky, Johnnie Walker to be exact, and make sure we didn’t destroy the lounge while the ladies got some peace and quiet outside.
Bill Lumsden, head distiller for the beautiful Glenmorangie range once told me that, “a good whisky can be a great whisky shared with friends, but a great whisky will make for an exceptional experience.”
Celebrate with those closest to you this Christmas. You deserve it.

Johnnie Walker Black
A masterful blend of single malt and grain whiskies from across Scotland. Aged for a least 12 years. Drink it neat or with ice. My grandfather’s favourite whisky so it has to be good.
1.75 Litre $169.99

Glenmorangie The Tayne
Kept in Amontillado Sherry casks, you end up with a wonderful spicy, citrus peel and toasty oak. Stories of Spanish Galleons on the coast inspired this beautiful release from one of the world’s best distillers. A sophisticated whisky for the discerning palate.
1 Litre $139.99
The Glenturret 12Yrs

Notes of dried fruits and spices from European oak harmonise beautifully with vanilla and caramel tones from American oak, aged in a small number of carefully selected casks. Sprinkles of ginger with barley sugar, rich oak, sultanas and cinnamon with a soft creamy fi nish. 700ml $119.99
Sexton Irish Whisky
The Chivas Regal 13Yrs
“You have a single life, so drink a single malt,“ is what Sexton say about their malt. I don’t know how they know I’m single, but it’s a great Irish whiskey. An American single malt using Irish malted barley, it is America’s number one selling Irish single malt.
700ml $69.99
The Chivas Regal tequila has spent its last year fi nishing o in a tequila cask. It is still the same smooth Chivas whisky we have come to love but with the bite of tequila to add a little something to the experience.
