FEELING GOOD

Naturally, the most popular venues are those that tick all the boxes, an indoor/outdoor flow, spaciousness, ambience and plenty of scope for functions. No. 4 Bar and Restaurant nestles in the heart of Merivale. This handsome 1920s Edwardian villa enjoys a near-celebrity status as one of the most renowned gastropubs in Christchurch.

The open courtyards provide perfect summer dining for groups to gather and sip a tipple while sharing tasty treats from the famed drawcard platter, the “No. 4 Plank”. Prawn Risotto and Beef Wellington are two other signature dishes, while the summer main menu (Monday to Friday) and weekend breakfast brunch menu (from 9.00am weekends and public holidays), tempts every palate.

Gain a new perspective of the Garden City, and travel to a place less-known. Sit back, relax and enjoy the surroundings in an intimate setting. Enjoy the best pizza and cocktails in town.

If planning a function, there are plenty of options here, with The Library bar being one of the most sought after. This secluded but cosy space ensures that every function runs smoothly and delivers guest satisfaction. Information on menus, hours and spaces available for hire can be found on the website.

When a recipe is so perfect, why would anyone change

Especially delicious baking passed down by grandma, with a loyal customer following.

A busy family, now operating Gorgeous Food Specialist Bakery in Springs Road since July, continues the local legacy.

“We were so lucky to find such a good business, owned by really good people,” says co-owner Dana Chap. “Joanne and Peter, who had the bakery for 17 years, are really lovely, and always there to help us with any questions.”

The pastry is now homemade on site, while keeping all the same favourites - from the scrumptious sausage rolls to mama’s fudge that everyone loves. Proud of their pies“there’s more of the slow-cooked beef and less gravy” - the new beef and cheese, lamb and kumara with cheese, and a butter chicken pie, are delicious additions.

Dana and her husband Chanly juggle the new venture with their three-month-old. “We call her Maisy Baker,” she laughs. “My brother-in-law Ethan makes the slices, and my sister, Sam, who are in the shop with me, coincidently have a twomonth old daughter, Alita.”

Dana was a catering cook for Woolworths in Auckland, so the catering side of Gorgeous Food is also sizzling. For orders email NZ_dana@yahoo.com or call 021 024 08866.
