Voted the best Through painstaking deliberations and difficult decisions, the community voted for their favorites. Now, in this issue, we unveil the winners of the annual Best of Morgan Hill awards. Readers had the chance to vote for a variety of businesses, organizations and more through an online ballot that was live for a month. With more than 100 categories to consider, at least
20 selections had to be made in order for the ballot to count. We received numerous entries, with the community telling us their favorite places to eat, where to shop, what they like to do on the weekend and more. The results show many old favorites have once again reclaimed their titles, but plenty of others have been voted the best for the first time.

MOHI Social, downtown Morgan Hill’s hottest new restaurant, cleaned up in the Best Of awards, voted best new restaurant, late night dining spot and brunch by the readers, as well as tieing for the best happy hour.
Morgan Hill, featuring seasonal cuisine, cocktails and weekend brunch. Its menu is chock full of greens, flatbread varieties, substantial entree plates and rows of desserts.
The restaurant, owned by South Valley hospitality trendsetter Frank Leal, bills itself as “bringing a little bit of Vegas” to downtown

BEST URGENT CARE CENTER: DEPAUL The newly renovated De Paul Health Center opened for patient admissions in December, and the facility has played a big part in helping Santa Clara County manage the surges of Covid-19 illnesses, according to county health officials.
Drive in northeast Morgan Hill has not been completely renovated, but construction crews and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center staff were able to open a “non-acute care” wing that contains 36 private patient care rooms.
The former hospital building on De Paul
The De Paul facility was decommissioned
as a hospital in 1999. It sat mostly unused and deteriorating until the county—which purchased the site when it bought SLRH in 2018—decided in 2020 to dedicate at least $37 million to repair and upgrade the building for additional space as the coronavirus pandemic dug its heels into the region.

Best shopping MORGAN HILL FARMERS MARKET The weekly Morgan Hill Farmers Market, located on Depot Street downtown, features dozens of vendors every Saturday, selling fresh produce and flowers from farms throughout northern California, as well as homemade treats. The market takes place 9am to 1pm. It never experienced a major disruption of business or operations during the Covid19 pandemic. Because vendors are selling basic food necessities, the market was deemed an essential service early on. Juan Reyes

BEST SMALL THEATER COMPANY: SOUTH VALLEY CIVIC THEATRE South Valley Civic Theatre may not have had a regular performance in almost two years due to the pandemic, but the local favorite continues to enjoy strong support, voted the Best Small Theater
Company in Morgan Hill, while its online teen production held earlier this year, “Clue,” was voted Best Virtual Event. The theater company plans to be back in 2022, with a season of shows lined up.
“Cabaret” will kick off the 2021-22 season in March. For those who need their local theater fix as soon as possible, SVCT’s Limelight theater will perform its holiday show, “A Nice Family Christmas,” on select dates from Nov. 26-Dec. 18 in Gilroy. Limelight returned to the stage with the showing of “Ripcord” in September.For information, visit svct.org.

If you’ve eaten anywhere in Southern Santa Clara County, chances are you’ve had one of these fruits in its many forms. Terra Amico Farms operates a farmstand, supplies some local restaurants, and its tomatoes are used for jelly and other canned products.

The property is filled with 2,000 heirloom tomato plants, totaling 60 varieties, as well as countless zucchini, artichoke, basil, pepper and other plants that make up the edible landscaping.
