Institution of Marriage Celebrated at Avery Chapel Couples Honored for more than 50 years of Bliss

Fifteen couples and surviving spouses were honored at a reception following August 13th morning services at Avery Chapel AME Church, 1425 N. Kelham in Oklahoma City. The reception ended a day of praise devoted to the institution o marriage. The morning speaker was Rev. Isaac N. Hudson Sr., pastor for Avery Chapel. The day of celebration was meant as a statement in lieu of recent controversies concerning the institution of marriage.

In his morning message Rev. Hudson was adamant about marriage as a Holy institution and "to the contrary of

what might be current trends," what he believed was not according to the Bible. Hudson, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas and long time pastor of Vernon Chapel AME Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma received a pastoral assignment to Avery Chapel last December.

Prior to his sermon Rev. Hudson presented plaques to the honorees of the day. Those honored were Mr. & Mrs. Herman Jackson, Albert Yarbro ugh, Sammie Davis, Lincoln House and. John Hayes.

Several members were honored as the surviving

spouses of marriages of 50 or more years. The spouses included Mrs. Lois Jones, Doris Gary, Donnie Mae Johnson, Loretta Love, Wilba Jones, Johnnie Kimbro, Electra Telford, Doris Wright, Mrs. Casey Childs and Mr. Hurlan Dulan.
