Twin brothers aged nine were murdered in a bloodbath by their older half-brother at their home yesterday, gardaí believe. Thomas and Patrick O’Driscoll, who were described by a neighbour as ‘a pair of rascals’, were stabbed to death at their home in Charleville, north Cork. The boys’ half brother, Jonathan O’Driscoll, 21, was found dead 15 km away in Buttevant. it’s understood he took his own life. Holding back tears, close relatives of the twins said they did not want to talk to reporters about the deaths.
by david raleigH A well-informed source said: ‘The place is like a butcher’s parlour, or an abattoir. Those poor little boys suffered a shocking death.’ A sibling of the twins, who are members of the settled Travelling community, discovered their bodies in separate bedrooms shortly before 5pm and contacted their parents. The victims’ mother and father were 8km away in Kilmallock, Co Limerick, when their twin boys were set upon and killed inside the family home in Deerpark.

The scene is located a short distance outside Charleville town near O’Rourke’s Cross on the main n20 Limerick-to-Cork road. it’s unclear why the horrific double murder happened, however sources said the boys’ killer must have ‘just snapped’. A HSE Air Corps air ambulance was dispatched to the area, however it was quickly stood down when it became clear the twins were dead at the scene. Gardaí in Charleville are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.
