Artist: Kay McCormack

Gain a solid grounding in the calligraphic arts. In this class, you’ll learn how to use a pointed pen and bottle ink, as well as how to set up a page properly. As you master these basic skills, you’ll also have a chance to explore variations and alterations. By the end of the course, you’ll have all the knowledge you need to execute foundational strokes and letters.

Jewellery Making for Beginners: Basic Wire Wrapping Create beautiful and unique jewellery using the ancient technique of wire wrapping. You’ll learn three beginner-level styles of wire wrapping, creating a different piece of jewellery with each. In the first class, we’ll discuss tools and wires, as well as how to wrap both rough and tumbled stones—a basic technique essential to every wire artist. In the second class, you’ll learn to handle different sizes of beads to create a twist pendant. Finally, you’ll try your hand at slightly more complicated techniques: a three-strand braid and a five-strand wire braid on a cabochon (polished gem). Current president of the Edmonton City Dart League Association and chairman of YEG Darts, a group that promotes all dart leagues in and around Edmonton, Cory has been playing in dart leagues since 1998. Currently, he plays in three leagues—the City League, the Pub League and the Tactics or TAME League. Cory is also the tournament director for the Klondike Open Dart Tournament, which is the oldest shoot in North America at 60 continuous years. Low photo quality, failure to record photos, poor composition and blurred images are all common pitfalls. Some problems are complex, but others can be easy to fix if you know what to do. Following a formal presentation about the most common problems, you’ll be invited to share some of your specific concerns. We’ll discuss these as a group and work through practical hands-on solutions. Bring your camera to class.

In this class, we’ll discuss the fundamentals of how to guide your subjects into positions that are most flattering and comfortable. You will explore the differences between male and female poses and the advantages of both full-length and close-up portraits, and uncover tips on posing hands. You’ll leave with confidence that you can capture relaxed and natural expressions from your subjects.

Who can take a Metro class?

Adult continuing education classes are designed for adults age 18-years and over. With special permission, a 16- or 17-year old may be admitted to a class.

What is the refund policy?

Full refunds will be issued for any cancelled classes and may take up to four weeks to process. You may withdraw or transfer at least two business days prior to the start date of your class for a full refund. If you cannot attend a class, a friend or family member can take your place. Classes are not cancelled due to severe weather.
