Situated on the Pohutukawa Coast, the $250 million project will provide highquality, design- and communityled retirement village living for people looking for independent coastal living, with the assurance of care into the future.
The first 32 villas are scheduled for completion in mid-2021, with strong interest already received from the local community and beyond. Once completed, Pohutukawa Landing will offer around 185 villas and apartments and the full continuum of care.

ENGAGING THE LOCALS
Building may have just begun, but the local community has already played an integral role in the development of Pohutukawa Landing, from choosing its name to inspiring the bountiful planting of grapes, olives and citrus trees in acknowledgement of the area’s rich agrarian history.
Beachlands and Maraetai residents have had a chance to have a say into everything from interior design and landscaping, to security and roading materials. The initiative is part of Metlifecare’s focus on building meaningful connections with the communities we’re part of. In August, 21 local seniors met with village architects Peddlethorp, interior designers, and Metlifecare representatives to share their vision and give feedback on the new development. The planned 90-minute session drew to a close two-and-a-half hours later.
“It was such a positive afternoon and really reinforced to us that we are doing the right thing by increasing our community engagement,” said development sales manager David Martin. “It was wonderful to start building relationships with the people who are actually going to live here, so they can play a key role in what the village will ultimately look like. It also gave them the opportunity to get to know others who may be moving in when stage one opens.”
It was the second community engagement event to be held for Pohutukawa Landing (the first helped choose the village name).
“We want to be more engaged in our local communities. The more we involve people in the journey, the better the design and connection to the wider community.”
