Subject Specific Entry and Considerations

GCSE Entry Criteria

• 6 GCSEs at C or above, including C or higher in Maths and English and 3 GCSEs at B or above

• Pupil's must meet Subject Entry Criteria Pathway 1

• A total of 12 GCSE points score of 12 (new scoring system) with C's in English and Maths

• Pupils must meet the Subject Entry Criteria Pathway 2

• A 4th AS Level is permitted if 24 points or higher have been attained.

• *Please see admission criteria in Entry Booklet for official wording.

Points Totals Grade Points

• 10 A’s equates to 30 points

• 3B’s and 3C’s equates to 9 points

Subject Specific Entry Criteria

• Information can be found in the ‘What’s Next?’ booklet found on the website (Admissions → 6th Form)

• Majority of subjects ask for a B for entry at 6th Form.

• Based on evidence, a few subjects require higher attainment for entry. These are:

• Biology (A-with no foundation tier entries)

• Chemistry (A-with no foundation tier entries and A in Mathematics)

• Physics (A-with no foundation tier entries and A in Mathematics)

• English Literature (A in Literature and B in Language)

• Mathematics (A-M4 and M8)

• Further Mathematics (A* in Maths and A* Further Maths)

• Psychology (ABB in Mathematics, English and a Science –not Single Award)

• The Entry Criteria is the Entry Criteria

• If there is an issue that you believe may require Special Circumstances, please contact the College’s Examinations Team in a timely manner, ahead of the examination.

Careers

Careers Pathways and Guidance

• Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science (MSC and Informedchoices)

• Chemistry – primary pathway and essential for most institutions

• Biology - essential for most institutions

• Maths/Physics – preferred

• Depending upon the university, a third choice can be present, but rarely as a replacement for the Core Science – look at the specific school.

• Life Experience

• Engineering

• Lots of routes, but with Higher Level Apprenticeships becoming very popular, Maths and Physics are highly recommended.

• Life experience/skills are very important for HLA’s.

• Law

• An essay-based subject, for example History, English Literature or Politics.

• An analytical subject, for example, Maths, Science, Language, Economics or RE (non-exhaustive)

• A third that promotes rigour, growth and academic thought.

• Allied Health

• Pharmacy (Chemistry essential), Physiotherapy (Biology essential), others usually require a Science for example F&N/Chem/Bio/Physics/Psychology

• Finance/Accounting/Actuarial Science

• Further Mathematics for Actuarial Science is preferred

• Mathematics is preferred for Financial/Accounting style degrees.

• Others

• Do your research – we can guide.

• Entrance Tests apply to a range of these courses.

Pathways and Alternative Pathways

Delivery Style

• Three Types of courses available:

• Modular A Levels – majority of our courses. AS result produced in Summer 2027 based on Controlled Assessment and/or Examinations.

• Linear A Levels – Controlled Assessment (in some) and Examinations at the end of Upper 6th. These subject include Psychology, Classical Civilisation, Computer Science, Drama and Theatre, Latin, Russian.

• BTEC Course: Travel and Tourism and Sport. Generally these are more Controlled Assessment focussed with some examinations. (If applying to Russell Group Universities especially, it is advisable to only study one BTEC – however this is not a rule).

Results Day (Thursday 20th August 2026)

• Please confirm your intention to remain by submitting a choice form on the morning of. This will be done digitally.

• For voluntary subject changes, please see a Careers Tutor on the morning of Results Day.

• For enforced subject changes, you will receive a information in your envelope. It is important this is resolved on results morning. Being present is ideal.

• Those who do not meet the threshold for re-entry will meet with a Vice Principal.

6th Form at Methody

• Pupils receive 12 periods per fortnight of their chosen subject (18 if Further Maths is studied) or less if the subject is below the threshold number.

• Pupils are timetabled to Games or Enrichment (L6th only), a tutorial period, study periods and a small number of recreational periods.

• High expectations of participation, attendance and punctuality.

• Fantastic opportunities available with lots of extra-curricular and supra-curricular activities.

•Prepare by having informed conversations.

• Refer to the Tracking Data you have received.

• Research course requirements

• Review the Subject Choices Booklet on the website.

• Think about what you like, what interests you, what you are or can be good at?

Careers Interviews

• Scheduled on SchoolCloud

• Please ensure your child knows the time of their interview and who it is with.

• 15 minutes with a Careers Tutor or Senior Teacher.

• The aim is to ensure every pupil is coursed as well as possible.

• The purpose is not to confirm choices in the interview. A link will be sent out the evening of the interview with a Monday 2nd March deadline.
