A prayer letter of the Methodist Missions Society
You will seek me and find me Jeremiah 29:13
dear prayer partners
THE HEART OF PRAYER Prayer should be a regular part of every Christian’s life. Jesus modelled this through His own example. The Gospels frequently tell us that He withdrew to quiet places to pray, often rising early in the morning to spend time with His Father (Mark 1:35; 6:46; Luke 6:12). John Wesley likewise followed this discipline faithfully, recognising that prayer was essential to a life of discipleship. Yet both Jesus and Wesley understood that prayer is far more than a spiritual habit. At its heart, prayer flows from our love for God. Jesus’ prayer life reflected the profound relationship He shared with His heavenly Father. He longed to be in loving communion with the Father, and it was this deep relationship that shaped His ministry. Prayer was never merely preparation for His work. It was an expression of His love and delight in the Father. This is a truth we can easily overlook in today’s fast-paced and achievementdriven world. We may be tempted to treat prayer as a means of obtaining God’s blessings or securing success for our plans and ministries. While God graciously invites us to bring our requests before Him, prayer is first and foremost an invitation to draw near to Him. It is the place where we experience His love, listen to His voice, and respond with our love and worship. When prayer becomes the heartbeat of our lives, it transforms the way we serve, the way we relate to others, and the way we participate in God’s mission. As we spend unhurried time in His presence, we come to know Him more deeply and allow Him to shape our hearts according to His will. As you journey through this issue of PrayerConnect, may these prayer pointers become more than a list of needs. May they become opportunities to draw near to God, partner with Him in His mission, and uphold our missionaries and ministries in faithful prayer. It is our privilege to know Him, to be known by Him, and to join Him in His work among the nations.

Testimony
COME BACK AND SERVE ~ by Felix, Chaplain, Sundermeier Home, Timor-Leste. (This is an abridged version. For the full version: go to www.mms.org.sg/post/come-back-and-serve.)
When I first heard about Sundermeier Home in 2015, I was only interested in one thing: learning English. The classes were free, and I saw them as a good opportunity. Some of my friends warned me not to attend because the hostel was run by Christians. They feared I would become a Protestant. But I decided to continue. I became one of the first hostelites when Sundermeier Home opened in January 2016. Coming from a family of another faith, I resisted the gospel and often broke hostel rules. I did not want to listen during devotions and was frequently disciplined by Papa Joseph and Mama Grace. Looking back, I realise they never gave up on me. They continued to teach me God’s Word, encourage me, and pray for me. Gradually, God began to soften my heart. In 2017, I started reading the Bible, memorising Scripture, and learning to pray. Through the faithful love, patience,
and discipleship of Papa Joseph and Mama Grace, I came to know Jesus Christ personally. My life was transformed. After graduating from Sundermeier Home, God opened doors for me to study theology in Timor-Leste and through an online programme with Arrows College in Australia. I was also deeply encouraged and mentored by Pastor See Swee Fang during my time at Dunamis House. Today, by God’s grace, I have returned to Sundermeier Home as a full-time leader and chaplain, serving in the very place where I first encountered Christ. My prayer is that many more young people will experience the same transforming love of God. Thank you for praying for the ministries in Timor-Leste. Your prayers are changing lives. I am living proof that God hears and answers the prayers of His people. Note: This testimony was first featured in ‘Project Metamorphosis’. Check it out:
