A prayer letter of the Methodist Missions Society
1 Thessalonians 5:17

dear prayer partners
LET US NOT CEASE TO PRAY!
Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you, and I will instruct you in the good and the right way. 1 Samuel 12:23
This verse highlights the vital ministry of prayer. Those who walk in the presence of the Lord understand the value and discipline of consistent prayer. The key pillars of intercessory prayer are as follows:
1.God our Father delights in listening to His children. He listens to our hearts as we worship Him, and He responds when we cry out for help. This is like a parent or grandparent who delights in listening to their children or grandchildren. God takes joy in our prayers.
2.God knows our hearts and desires to minister to us deeply. When the prophet Samuel prayed, he was aware of his priestly role in presenting the people’s needs before God. Confident that the Lord would answer, he committed never to cease praying for them. Likewise, our staff, missionaries, and those whom God have enabled to minister, covet your prayers.
3.God shapes us through prayer to be more like His Son. God is love. He demonstrated this by giving His only Son to die for us. When we engage in prayer, we follow Christ’s example. Through prayer, God moulds us into Christlikeness, and in doing so, He is honoured.
4.God calls us to proclaim His saving grace to the nations. As we pray, we learn to recognise God’s voice. Like the prophets of old, we are moved to respond to His call to share His love with the nations. Prayer is not only about our personal needs. The deeper we engage in prayer, the greater the impact we will have on the mission field.
Keep on praying...
Rev Derrick Lau Executive Director Methodist Missions Society

TJOURNEY BACK TO gOD’S CALLINg
~ by Chen Soksen, former volunteer serving at The Third Place, Cambodia. (This is an abridged version. For the full version: go to www.mms.org.sg/post/journey-back-to-god-scalling.)
I graduated from the Cambodian Methodist Bible School in 2016 and got married the following year. From 2016 to 2019, I served as pastor in two churches, first at Prey Veng and later Setbo.
In 2019, I faced a difficult period. My health declined, and my parents urged me to find a stable job with better pay. After much struggle, I stepped away from ministry and became an English teacher. Over five years, I was promoted up to Head of Department, earning a steady income.
Yet, even while working in the secular world, I felt God’s persistent call. He called me back three times, but I hesitated, torn between His call and my parents’ wishes. Then in November 2024, during a conversation with Rev Pyo, a Korean missionary, he asked me, “Do you want to serve God?” and told me about a church needing a pastor.
My family and I prayed and sought God’s guidance. After much reflection, we decided to obey. Although I had a respectable job and a good salary, I felt empty. Nothing gave me true joy. I was reminded of Isaiah’s response to God: “Here am I. Send me!” I chose to surrender and follow His call once more.
In January 2025, my wife, son, and I began serving at Green Bethel Church, located near a rubbish dump. Many in the community survive by collecting waste. The church also runs a school for their children, who often face discrimination and are excluded from state schools. Today, many of them join us in worship.
We are grateful that God still chooses to use us. Please pray for our family, our church, and the village, that many may come to know Christ and that this place may become “Jesus’ Village.”
