MINISTRY OF SCHOOLS IN MMS MISSION FIELDS
by Rev Derrick Lau, Executive Director of MMS. He enjoys DIY projects.
Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Psalm 34:11

The establishment of schools has been an integral part of the strategic focus of the development of the Methodist mission in Singapore since its founding in 1885. Countless lives have been nurtured and shaped by its Christian values found in the schools’ curriculum and practicum.

In the same spirit, Methodist Missions Society, Singapore is continuing its rich heritage and tradition of establishing schools wherever feasible and practical in the mission fields. It provides an excellent platform and opportunity for the sharing the Gospel, touching, and transforming the lives of the students, staff and families associated with the schools.

We praise God for the setting up of schools such as Methodist School of Cambodia in Phnom Penh (https://www.facebook.com/methschcam); Vineyard Methodist School in Chiang Mai, Thailand (https://www.vms.ac.th); Little Candles Methodist School in Phrao, Thailand (https://littlecandles.org); Singapore Mission School in Vientiane, Laos (https://singaporemissionschool.com); and St Paul Methodist School in Metinaro, Timor-Leste (https://www.spmstl.org). Currently, we have the privilege of addressing the educational needs of more than 2,000 students. Our Student Sponsorship Scheme provides financial subsidies to students from lower income families. We are immensely thankful to the dedicated teams of Delighters i.e. church leaders and members who provide leadership in terms of their service on the School Boards, and educators who conduct courses, seminars, and workshops to further equip the teachers and staff on school operations. We covet your prayers for:
School Board members who provide strategic directionand resources for the respective schools.Continued Christo-centric elements within the school curriculum.Holistic support for the students, especially those with special learning needs and those from lower income families.Opportunities to share the Gospel via Chapel, Christian Fellowship, Vacation Bible School, etc.Openness of the government/authorities in providing licences and permits to operate schools particularly in Creative Access Nations.Laying the foundation and framework for the setting up of a second Methodist School in the Kandal District, Cambodia.

We invite you to pray and provide your expertise in terms of enriching the ministry of our schools in the mission fields. Contact us at mms@methodist.org.sg to find out more.
