Each leg is to be machined individually to clean up only, machined to suit the finished size of each individual leg.

Each leg is 3315mm high x 365mm diameter 1. Complete a full laser tracker survey of each press leg to establish the full extent of the wear.

2. Set up vertical orbital machining equipment to re-machine diameters of all 4 legs while still maintaining positional accuracy. We allowed for the removal of 0.80 mm per side from each leg to ensure a full clean up.

Machine in situ 4 x press support legs to remove all worn areas leaving each leg smaller in diameter but round and parallel to allow the fitting of new undersize bronze bushes in the moving crosshead. ​ The press legs measure 365mm diameter at the largest area where there is no wear x 3315mm high.​ ​ Each of the 4 legs must be machined individually to clean up only, because each of the 4 new split bushes will be machined to suit the finished size of each individual leg. ​

The first part of the job was to complete a full laser tracker survey on press (4) to establish the full extent of the wear and the proposed corr machining. ​

Then using the survey results set up the portable vertical orbital mach equipment to re-machine the worn diameters of all 4 legs while still m positional accuracy. ​

We allowed for the removal of 0.80mm on radius to ensure a full clean ​ The job took 2 men working dayshift and 2 men working nightshift usi 20 shifts (10 days) to complete this scope of works.
