A Heart Larger than the World Brian Grogan SJ
9781788125871 Paperback 288pp 178x 128mm J5871 €19.95 £18.95 North America: Loyola Press
This book tells the life of Pedro Arrupe SJ, 1907-1991, whose cause for beatification was introduced in 2019. Arrupe played a central role in the Church of the twentieth century; a tiny man with a heart truly larger than the world, he lived like a church mouse, prayed for four hours daily, and spent sixteen years as superior general of the Jesuits. Working in Japan, he endured thirty-three days of solitary confinement on charges of espionage, and was a first responder at Hiroshima when the atom bomb fell there in 1945. He was elected superior general of the Jesuits in 1965 and led them fearlessly as the Church grappled with the decrees of the Vatican Council, 1962-1965. His renewal of Jesuit life and mission crystallised around the faith that does justice, and

in 1980 he founded the Jesuit Refugee Service which has now spread globally. Brian Grogan SJ is a former president of Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy, Dublin, and is Emeritus Associate Professor of Spirituality. A best-selling author, he has devoted most of a lifetime to mining and circulating the rich treasures of Ignatian spirituality.

Occasional Prayers for the School Year Gráinne Delaney
9781788125703 Paperback 80pp 210x 140mm J5703 €12.95 £11.95
This book is intended for busy teachers, chaplains or anyone who often reaches for a prayer or service, but finds themselves grabbing material from many different sources. Working in a Jesuit school for over 20 years, where school gatherings are common and always prefaced with prayer, the author often wished she had a book under her arm that she could trust would always have something to suit. Having written different prayers to suit certain moments in the school year, or a particular moment in time, she collated these as a “go to” for people who lead prayer, who provide calm and stillness for others but may have felt frantic in ‘finding the right piece.’
Grainne Delaney received a Bachelor of Religious Science with History from Mater Dei Institute of Education. Her role as Chaplain in Crescent College Comprehensive SJ has fostered her interest in Faith Formation.

Nature Praising God
Towards a Theology of the Natural World Dermot A. Lane Foreword by Margaret Daly-Denton
9781788125734 Paperback 120pp 210x 140mm J5734 €14.95 £12.95
This book was written during the lockdown caused by the Covid crisis: streets were emptied, churches closed down, and a relationship with nature developed in which new questions arose: is God present in nature? Is communion with God in nature possible? Is there a relationship between the God of creation, the God of history and the God we worship in Sunday liturgies? An awareness of nature praising God stands out as a rebuke of humanity’s self-absorption at the expense of other creatures, a critique of a man-centred view of liturgy, and an invitation to join the cosmic choir in giving glory to God. The overall result of these explorations is the outline of a new theology of nature praising God, with lessons for the way we worship God in our churches today.

Your Word is a Lamp on my Path
Reflections on the weekday readings for the liturgical year 2022/23 Martin Hogan
9781788125901 Paperback 280pp 210x 140mm J5901 €19.95 £18.95
‘the message is that though all else changes, the words of scripture do not stop shining light, like a morning star.’ The Irish Catholic The reflections in this book are based predominantly on the gospel readings for the weekdays of the coming liturgical year, 2022/23, with occasional references to the first reading. They follow the sequence of the weekdays of the liturgical year, beginning with the Monday of the first week of Advent. In the course of the liturgical year, the gospel readings present us with a significant selection of the words and deeds of Jesus from all four gospels. In and through these gospel readings we encounter the living word of the risen Lord to his
church. There is rich fare here to nourish our faith life and to help us to grow in our knowledge and love of the Lord. These short reflections attempt to listen to the gospel readings on their own terms while showing how they can continue to speak to our lives today. Martin Hogan is a priest of the Diocese of Dublin. He was a Scripture lecturer in Mater Dei Institute of Education for over thirty years. This is his seventh publication of reflections on the weekday readings. Messenger Publications I Autumn 2022 9

9781788125796 Paperback 192pp 210x 140mm J5796 €19.95 £18.95
We grow up saying The Lord’s Prayer in a hurried way, we continue to recite it in a rush, and we risk never waking up to its richness. This book slows things down, in order to help us recognize something of the richness of this great prayer. Each chapter approaches a particular phrase of the Our Father from multiple perspectives, in order to facilitate a deepening level of engagement with its richness. Moving stories throw a new spotlight on the marvellous riches concealed in this familiar prayer. The Parish as Oasis
An Introduction to Practical Environmental Care Kevin Hargaden and Ciara Murphy
9781788125765 Paperback 144pp 210x 140mm J5765 €14.95 £12.95
The Parish as Oasis is a practical and accessible introduction to how local churches can contribute to healing the environmental crisis. By focusing on practical and accessible “experiments” that any parish can explore according to their own context and capacities, this book seeks to equip people with a hands-on understanding of the ideas unpacked in Laudato Si’. It is a book that aspires to inspire congregations to get their hands dirty, but it also plants those initiatives within a coherent eco-theology. It consists of three parts: an introductory essay that situates the theological vision of the book, a practical array of experiments that congregations can undertake to care for our common home, and a conclusion pointing people to further resources. The practical experiments draw on real-world examples, including interviews, to give each of these sections an easy magazine-like feel.
Dr Kevin Hargaden is the Director and Social Theologian of the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice. He brings an expertise in Catholic Social teaching and eco-theology, along with a growing global reputation as a moral theologian of note. Dr Ciara Murphy is the Environmental Justice Advocate of the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice. She is an influential figure in Irish environmental activism through her work at JCFJ and Stop Climate Chaos and a published author on the particularities of how faith and social activism interact in Ireland. A Journey with the Sunday Gospels in the Year of Matthew Tríona Doherty and Jane Mellett Foreword by Jessie Rogers
9781788125642 Paperback 144pp 210x 140mm J5642 €14.95 £12.95 North America: Twenty-Third Publications
The Gospel of Matthew is written for a community at a turning point, reflecting on who they are and who Jesus is for them. Matthew is written to offer hope from Jesus, their Teacher. In Jesus’ most famous sermon, delivered from the mountain top, we hear the challenge of The Beatitudes, the core teachings of Christianity today. They set out before us the challenge to live like Jesus, and show us that God always sides with the poor, those who thirst for justice and peace, those who are persecuted and those who mourn. The book includes tips for prayer and meditation to nourish ourselves along the way, as well as practical suggestions for living out our faith in the modern world. As we navigate Matthew’s Gospel, we hope to address the question of how this Gospel is relevant for a world and a Church today that are also at a turning point.

In the modern world, the speed of life makes it necessary to pause often and to reflect. In this booklet, the author offers thoughts and phrases that have nourished his mind, as invitations to think, to reflect, to learn, and maybe to be fruitfully confused.
