A wonderfully inspiring guide for anyone interested in Ignatian Spirituality. Sacred Space The Prayerbook remains our most popular title with sales increasing year on year. Comprised of interviews with Father General by journalist, Darío Menor, they engage in a spiritual conversation that covers such topics as the life of Ignatius, the life story of Sosa, the challenge of the unsettling twenty-first century, and the future of the Church. The book is published as part of the celebrations of ‘Ignatius 500’ : the 500th anniversary of the transformation in the life of Ignatius of Loyola that resulted in his conversion and led to the foundation of the Jesuit order.

Denis Tuohy worked as a broadcaster in news and current affairs for half a century, covering major stories around the world for BBC’s Panorama and Tonight, ITV’s This Week and ITN. When he was asked to contribute to BBC Radio Ulster’s Thought for the Day series, he moved into uncharted territory. This book is a collection of his Thought for the Day pieces over the past few years with a linking commentary about his professional and personal life. ‘Across my own wide landscape,’ he says, ’I’ve been free to make unprompted choices of subject and to communicate them, in little more than a couple of minutes, to listeners in cars, kitchens, care homes, as they face up to another day.’ The choices have been prompted by his travels, by meeting famous names and by personal history. He recalls a multi-faith gathering in New York after the killing of Martin Luther King, meeting an religiously integrated Belfast singing group in apartheid South Africa, and taking part as an actor in Over the Bridge, Sam Thompson’s play about prejudice in a Belfast shipyard.

Rekindling an Inner Fire
Joachim Hartmann SJ and Annette Clara Unkelhäußer Contemplative prayer and the contemplative way of life are the central themes of this book. Against the backdrop of their rich experience of accompanying those coming on retreat to House Gries, Germany, the authors talk about what happens in silence: healing and wholeness, suffering and consolation, forgiveness and reconciliation, gratitude and joy... This book originated from a desire to make more widely available the experiences that emerge through conversations between retreatants and guides. The individual chapters of the book, each based on a particular theme, have a clear and consistent structure. A short introduction to the theme is followed by a conversation. Scripture, the writings of St Ignatius, experiences from spiritual accompaniment as well as the authors’ own personal experiences form the basis for these conversations. Through using the questions, ‘Where was my heart burning?’ ‘Where were my eyes opened?’ the authors pick out aspects of the conversation which triggered a particular resonance within them. Finally, each chapter concludes with short exercises for the reader, relevant to the theme.

The Gospel of John (‘the Fourth Gospel’) is presented through the symbol of a diamond. Like light falling on a diamond and flowing from facet to facet, the themes of the Gospel of John are highlighted and held together. This creates a dynamic which is circular, drawing those who read and pray the Gospel into a deeper understanding of its spirituality and theology. Following an introduction, ten themes are chosen.
