Meet CHRISSY & JANET Smithtown’s Pets of the Week
And with more than half of our class matching into Pennsylvania residency programs, we are confident our school will expand the number of our graduates who return to care for our neighbors.”

Dr. Byerley addressed the Class of 2023, saying, “We are so proud of you as you take this huge step from medical student to residency. As doctors, you will forever continue to learn, but your learning
Chrissy and Janet are a pair of six year-old Domestic Short Hair sisters who grew up in the Animal Shelter. They were both adopted into a new home for a year and a half, but their new parents sadly had to return them after they fell on hard times. Both of these loves are very sweet and enjoy snuggles and being petted. They are initially shy, timid, and low-key when first meeting someone, but will open up when given space and time to learn to trust. Chrissy and Janet have lived with other cats before, and would do best in a quiet home without any children or loud dogs. We would love for these sisters to be adopted together, but they can be separated for the right home.
All of the felines at the Shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board certified Veterinarian.

Foster Opportunity:
If you have no other pets or young children at home, and are looking for a way to serve your community, please consider signing up to be a foster. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens, and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for extended periods of time. Thinking About Adoption:
The Smithtown Animal Shelter’s primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to us. The Animal Control Officers and Kennel Attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another.
Residents who have other pets can arrange to bring your four-legged family member to the shelter or set up an at home meet & greet to see how your prospective family member does with other family, pets and the household itself. Please allow yourself an hour minimum to meet with your potential new family member.
Hours at the Smithtown Animal Shelter are currently Monday - Saturday 10AM - 3PM. (Sundays opportunities will fade into the shadow of your healing opportunities as you improve the lives of the people and populations you serve.” and Wednesday evenings: by appointment only). To inquire about the Pet of the Week or to meet your potential soulmate, please call the Smithtown Animal Shelter at 631-360-7575
More than half of the Class of 2023 chose a primary care field specialty. Dr. Byerley also observed that Geisinger Commonwealth applicants matched into some of the most competitive specialties in American medicine, including dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, neurosurgery and plastic surgery. In addition to the large number of Geisinger Commonwealth students who will train at leading community-based programs, many students will go to residencies at highly competitive teaching hospitals, including Yale, Johns Hopkins and Emory. In addition to the School of Medicine’s celebration in Scranton, Geisinger hospitals learned who will be arriving this summer to begin residencies across the system.
Dr. Byerley noted that Geisinger hospitals successfully matched 136 students into 26 residency programs in today’s Match. Sixteen of the newly matched Geisinger residents are members of GCSOM’s Class of 2023. In addition, Geisinger’s newest residency programs, Child Neurology and Integrated Vascular Surgery, both enjoyed successful matches.
