Talking Internet Safety, Vaping at Smithtown Schools
“When I am up here speaking, don’t think I’m making this up because I’m not.” Those are the words of Suffolk County Police Officer Karl Allison as he spoke to students on March 9 at Great Hollow Middle School.

Under the Big Top at Mills Pond Students at Mills Pond Elementary put on a show on Friday, March 17

Students K-5 sat and cheered the entire time as the performers stole the show.

High School Juniors Reese Coughlin, Avery Marchese, and Nick Sumwalt (pictured below left) are making a difference in the lives of many. They are showing their giving spirit by teaming up as “Hauppauge Strong” to raise money for the “Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.”
They are a part of the Long Island Chapter’s annual scholarship and fundraising campaign and were nominated for their amazing leadership and passion to find cures for cancers, and their involvement in the community. They have participated in this fundraiser for the past two years, raising $40,000 for each of the last two years.
This campaign is personal for Reese, as her mom and grandpa are survivors of Lymphoma. Cancer has touched the lives of each of these team members in some way and they want to be a part of this fight.
Reese, Avery and Nick are working very hard organizing and implementing many fundraisers. Some of their recent fundraisers have been through Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, selling Super Bowl boxes, bagels and bracelets.

Some of their upcoming fundraisers include selling raffles at the high school musical this past Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4, chocolate-covered Oreos for “National Oreo Day,” a Duck Donuts St. Patrick’s Day DIY decorating kit, a Clothing Drive, and a virtual raffle which features Islanders tickets and another which features a multitude of baskets!
Reaching out for the help of our elementary students in Bretton Woods, Forest Brook, and Pines, Reese, Avery and Nick have organized ribbon sales in each of the schools through their Student Councils. This has become a competition between the buildings to see which school can sell the most during their designated week. Good luck to the teams!
Reese, Avery, and Nick have a great team of students behind them who are helping with all of this hard work. We would like to recognize them.
