Islip Honors Revolutionary War Patriots with Memorials The Town of Islip has completed a year-long research project to honor local Revolutionary War patriots by installing commemorative signs at their burial sites throughout the town. The initiative, conducted in partnership with the Sons of the American Revolution, recognizes sixteen patriots who risked everything to support the cause of American independence. Wayne Haddock of the Sons of the American Revolution led the extensive research effort, working alongside Islip Town Historian George Munkenbeck, to identify and verify the burial locations of Islip’s Revolutionary War veterans. The project culminated this summer with the installation of memorial signs at nine historic cemeteries and burial grounds where these patriots rest.

Sachem Building Comes Down to Make Way for Holbrook Park By Matt Meduri A long-awaited and fought-for project in Holbrook is finally underway. Tuesday morning saw the initial demolition of a former administrative building of the Sachem Central School District on the corner of Union Avenue and Smith Avenue, bounded by the cul-de-sac at the end of Coates Avenue. The building, long out of use, generally has been seen as an eyesore to the immediate community and a waste of four acres of otherwise open and green space.
