Heuermann Receives 3 Life Sentences in Gilgo Beach Case By Matt Meduri The historic and revolting Gilgo Beach serial killing case that has gripped Long Island for over three decades has reached its denouement - at least for now. Rex Heuermann, 62, of Massapequa Park, was sentenced on Wednesday morning to three life sentences plus 100 years without the possibility of parole. He pleaded guilty to three counts of First Degree Murder and four counts of Second Degree Murder. The case started in July 2023, when District Attorney Ray Tierney (R) announced a suspect had been apprehended in the cold case, one in which former Police Chief James Burke and other Suffolk officials had prevented FBI cooperation in the mid-2010s. Avant garde DNA technology linked Heuermann’s DNA left on the bodies found on Gilgo Beach to discarded pizza crusts, and investigators had been tracking cell phone movements for years.

Middle Country Celebrates 250 By Madison Warren Communities across Suffolk are kicking off the 250 celebrations, and this weekend saw the Middle Country community hold their festivities. Suffolk County Legislator Nick Caracappa (C-Selden) hosted the “History Comes Alive at America’s 250th Celebration” event in the Fourth Legislative District, bringing history, patriotism, and family-friendly entertainment together for residents of all ages. The day was a tremendous success, drawing residents from across Suffolk County for an afternoon filled with sunshine, family-friendly activities, local vendors, food trucks, historical reenactors, live music, a pizza-eating contest sponsored by Cafe Amici, a car show sponsor by Middle Country Automotive, military vehicles, line dancing, educational exhibits, and appearances by numerous local elected officials and community leaders who gathered to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. According to Caracappa, the celebration was designed not only to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, but also to bring the community together. Caracappa said he wanted the event to recognize the nation’s historic milestone while involving residents, businesses, youth organizations, and veterans throughout the Fourth District.
