OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD 2013 Outdoor activities are very popular with people all around the world – and that doesn’t mean only the athletes among us. An increasing number of people of all ages, from new adventurers to active older people, are out and about in the great outdoors to refill their energy tanks: After all, enjoying the outdoors is a great alternative that counterbalances the stress we often otherwise experience on a daily basis.

The “sustainability” factor plays a particularly essential role in an industry that focuses on nature and the environment.

Taking part in outdoor activities that are environmentally compatible is just as important as supporting a sustainable product lifecycle for outdoor products and equipment. This is where innovations with respect to materials and manufac­turing, application and recycling are in great demand. At the same time, the requirements are becoming increasingly complex because function, weight, breathability and wear resistance will continue to be decisive criteria for users in the future as well.

The growing mechanization of our world also doesn’t stop when it comes to the outdoor industry: electronic components and portable applications – from navigation systems to cameras and lights and right on up to outdoor smartphones and applications – make outdoor adventures even more relaxing, safe and communicative.

The OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD 2013, which will be staged for the eighth time this year during the world’s leading OutDoor Show and organized by iF, provides consumers with important orientation on a widely diverse market. It provides information on which products are functional and innovative or durable and sustainable. This seal of quality has established a solid reputation for itself as an outstanding marketing instrument for the retail trade. And once again for the eighth time, a personality who has made an outstanding contribution to the outdoor industry will be chosen this year and honored with the title of “OutDoor Celebrity of the Year”. Last year, the recipient of this award was Josef “Sepp” Wagner, senior partner at HANWAG in Vierkirchen near Munich, a manufacturer of outdoor footwear.

We, Messe Friedrichshafen, as the host of this innovative award for the outdoor industry, and iF, as the organizer, look forward to receiving your entries. On the next pages, we have put together the Conditions of Participation in this year’s award for you.

PARTICIPATION All exhibitors AT OutDoor Friedrichshafen, as well as non-exhibitors, are eligible to compete for the OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD 2013.

This includes manufacturers, designers, sales representatives, importers and specialist retailers. Entries should reflect a particularly high level of innovation and quality, point to new trends, and have been on the market for less than two years prior to the date of the trade fair. There is no limit to the number of entries per contestant. The products submitted must not violate the patent and protective rights of other parties.

The organizers assume no liability.

N. June 25 + 26, 2013 The selection of prize winners will be made by a panel of experts within the framework of a nonpublic judging session.

Manufacturers are not entitled to act as a juror. The jury will decide by a simple majority. There is no recourse to legal action, and no individual correspondence will be entered into. Out of the pool of the award winners, an additional group will be selected as the GOLD award winners. These awards are reserved for the most outstanding winners of the OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD 2013. Contestants will be advised of the results of the judging session by June 28, 2013.

AWARD + CEREMONY The OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD 2013 seal of design quality will be presented to the exhibitor and/or manufacturer as well as the responsible designers. As a prize winner, you will receive two certificates and advertising materials to support you in marketing your winning product (repro of logo, product hang tags and stickers). For as long as the product is on the market, you can advertise it as a winner of an OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD 2013 seal.

The award ceremony takes place in Foyer East on the fashion show stage, in the grounds of the OutDoor trade fair in Friedrichshafen at 5:30 p.m. on July 11, 2013. This will also be when the prize for the OutDoor Celebrity of the Year 2013 will be presented.

EXHIBITION Excellent design deserves its own special forum: all prizewin­ning products will be presented during OutDoor Friedrichshafen, from July 11 – 14, 2013 in the Foyer.

All award-winning products will be sent automatically to the Messe Friedrichshafen. Winning contestants will receive detailed information on how to deliver their entries when they are advised of the judging results. Products should be delivered as originals. All deliveries and return shippings must be without any charges to the organizers.

If you have set up your products yourself, you will also have to disassemble them on the stated days and you will have to set them up again yourself for the design exhibition at the Messe Friedrichshafen.

Registration Registration deadline: June 6, 2013 Registration fee EUR 125 per entry for exhibitors EUR 300 per entry for non-exhibitors Prices do not include VAT, which may have to be added, depending on the nature of the service and the country where the service recipients have their registered office.

The registrant will receive an invoice for the total amount from Messe Friedrichshafen. Should Messe Friedrichshafen not receive the participation fee by June 20, 2013 at the very latest, Messe Friedrichshafen shall reserve the right to dis­allow the entry. Should your entry not be received by us in time for adjudi­cation, you will still be charged the full registration fee. Cancellation is possible till June 17, 2013 in written form.

Easy registration We look forward to receiving your online registration at www.ifdesign.de After registering generally at the iF awards area of the website (my iF), please fill out one registration form per item entered. For each item we require a brief description of your product and its features in English and German. Your automatic confirmation will contain an entry-ID which you will need to quote when submitting your product and for any correspondence – thanks!

Assuming your entry receives an award, your text and photos will be used for the iF online exhibition as well as for the press CD at the awards ceremony. All information will be taken from the online registration form. The organizers assume no liability for any incorrect or false information supplied.

Large items should be presented as scale models or in the form of large-format, illustrative photos consisting of different detail shots. Please ensure that there are no delivery charges payable by iF, and that transport packaging is reusable. Defective or disposable packaging will not be used to return exhibits. The cost of any new packaging will be charged to the participant.

Your entries must arrive at Kuehne + Nagel clear of any customs or tax charges. The registrant and/or submitter will be required to cover any return shipping charges as well as any applicable customs duties on the import or export side.

All entries, as well as all product- and transport packaging, must be clearly labelled with entry-ID and category. If your consignment contains more than one entry, all entry-ID’s must be listed on the packaging.

Products that have to be mounted, are extremely large, difficult to handle, very heavy, complicated or delicate can be registered for self-assembly. The decision as to whether a contribution can be set up by the participant or whether it will be set up by iF rests with iF. If you set up your product yourself, you must supply all the necessary material and tools. Please inform your forwarding company if this applies to you, since any additional costs concerning delivery and collection will be charged to you. If you decide to set up your contribution yourself, you are also responsible for the disposal of any packaging material, dismantling and collecting your contribution after it has been evaluated by the jury. This also applies to products that have received an award. The awardwinning products must be dismantled by 3 p.m. the day after the jury session because all these products are scheduled to be shipped to Friedrichshafen in the late afternoon.

Please note: there will be no return shipment for large-format photos. You will have to pay all fees and expenses related to the return of your products or to their disposal.

If you also need any non-award-winning products at the OutDoor in Friedrichshafen, we would like to remind you that iF will not organize or assume the costs for the transportation of such items. Please consult your own logistics supplier and make the appropriate arrangements, if necessary, to have such items delivered to the show.

Dismantling exhibition On Sunday, July 14, 2013, at 5 p.m. you have to pick up your award-winning products at the special display area in the Foyer. If you are not going to be able to do so, the organizer Messe Friedrichshafen will arrange the reshipment of your product. The costs for packaging material and reshipment will be charged to the participant. The participant is financially responsible in case of any damages that might occur during the dismantling processes.

TRANSPORT LIABILITY INSURANCE The contestant bears the charges for the delivery and return shipping of products to and from the judging and exhibition site. Products must be delivered in reusable packaging. The contestant is liable for any damage or additional charges.

The organizers will not purchase any insurance coverage for submitted products. We recommend that you take out a transport and exhibition insurance policy, particularly to cover breakage, damage and theft.
