Introduction

About us

Our company specialises in designing and manufacturing Medium and High Voltage electrical equipment for the following sectors: Railways, Infrastructure, Renewable Energy, Electricity Companies and Large Industry in general. MESA was founded in Mungia (Spain) in 1947 as a response to the growing energy demand at the time. MESA has been working closely with the main electricity companies in Spain ever since it started up, seeking out innovative products for the electricity market. As part of this constant search for innovation and design, MESA opened the first High Voltage laboratory in Spain in 1979. The first developments in GIS switchgear began here, in addition to our expansion into other new sectors such as railways, high speed trains and renewable energy. We are currently a strategic supplier for 55 kV High Speed substations and a benchmark for the main metro systems in Spain. MESA is undergoing major international expansion in preparation for future challenges: Smart Grids, Power Houses, Offshore and other renewable energy sources, and high speed travel on the international market.

A long history of R&D&i Here at MESA we believe that only by being at the vanguard of technology we can offer our customers the most innovative and smart solutions that respond to the challenges faced on every project. R&D&i has been part of MESA's DNA since it began, and this has led to us being leaders in our home market by setting the pace for designing Medium and High Voltage equipment that others have later followed. We have travelled a long road alongside the main electricity companies and players in the electricity sector, seeking out solutions that best suit their requirements. The high voltage laboratory at the R&D&i department has allowed us to perform the electrical, mechanical and climate tests needed to guarantee the quality and reliability that our customers expect from the equipment we design.

MESA introduced its quality policy over 30 years ago, creating the company's first quality manual, and since then it has been continually developed and updated to achieve total quality. The MESA quality management system is certified in accordance with the ISO 9000 standard and we continue to work every day to improve constantly every process, from designing the equipment we manufacture to our after-sales service, to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.

Field of Application

Traction substations provide power to the 25 kV overhead contact line system, as well as the other auxiliary services at different voltages.

Single-phase and two-phase GIS switchgear The medium voltage switchgear is located in the traction substation control building. MESA switchgears are CBGS type. 2 x 27.5 kV maximum service voltage two-phase switchgears are used, with SF6 insulation for control and protection of the power transformers, as well as protection for the catenary and feeder gantry. The catenary and feeder gantries are connected to the 55 kV substation by mean of cable rising to the gantry and connects to the traction system conductors through the disconnectors. The medium voltage units are located in the traction substation control building in the medium switchgear room. Two-phase switchgear with a maximum service voltage of 55 kV between phases is normally used with SF6 insulation for controlling and protecting the power transformers, as well as protecting the catenary. 36 kV single-phase switchgear is used to protect the auxiliary service transformers.

Modular substations

MESA offers a modular option for traction substations assembled in the factory and ready-to-use. The modular substation is adapted to customer requirements to offer flexible solutions and versatile configurations. The modular substation contains all integrated protection and control equipment; singleand two-phase LV switchgear up to 55 kV; equipment for auxiliary services; transformers; LV control, communication and protection assemblies; uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), as well as lighting, fire detection and extinction systems, and entry control systems. All equipment is designed, integrated and assembled in the factory to reduce final total costs of the investment and increase substation reliability. In turn, all equipment is subject to factory testing for high quality and reliability. The implementation and commissioning is more efficient, safer and quicker. MESA modular substations are exclusively designed and assembled by MESA meaning customers only need to deal with one supplier for the project. The MESA modular substation is a tailored solution with turnkey delivery to the end user. Substation maintenance is simple and the service life is 30 years. >>

They are a simple tool with text, animation, graphic material, phrases, instructions and guided explanations for better product knowledge. You can highlight and access the instruction manual, storage, transport and assembly sequences for the switchgear at the substation, switchgear linking, bar assembly, tests, etc. You can also carry out different operations such as connecting the line to bars, insulated busbars, install the line-to-earth and other operations for both the automatic switch and the switch disconnector.
