Congratulations to all the recipients of a Merritt Herald People’s Choice award. This marks the fourth year the Herald has asked our readers to pick the best of the best in Merritt — so this year’s recipients are the newest members of an exclusive club.

To be recognized with a People’s Choice award is an indication of excellence in our community.

The awards are voted on by the locals who shop, work and play in the Nicola Valley — the people who know this place as well as anyone.

To receive a vote is an indication that a business is making a connection in the community — and it is the sum of those connections that make our city a fantastic place to live.

Every dollar spent at a local business and every hour spent volunteering with a non-profit helps our community thrive. As the paper of record in the Nicola Valley since 1905, the Merritt Herald is proud to play a role in our local economy, by promoting the businesses, organizations and people who call this place home.

We’ve been honoured for the last few years to be able to hand out People’s Choice awards to local businesses and organizations. We continue to listen to our readers and have gone from sixty-two certificates in the first year to eighty-one this year, many of them now proudly on display in offices and stores around town. Since the first year public interest in the program has only continued to

grow, with Merrittonians eager to cast a ballot for their favourite mechanic, salesperson or volunteer organization.

And we must commend Herald readers — not only for their excellent selections — but for taking the time to vote, online or through our print edition. Without their participation, this program would not be possible.

We look forward to toasting the best of the best in Merritt for years to come.
