“My time at Merrimack College Police Academy were the greatest moments of my professional development. I got to see my progression from a Merrimack College student to now a Weston, Massachusetts police officer protecting the Commonwealth. The program prepared me mentally, physically, and academically to withstand the demanding needs of this career.”

Academy Sponsorship
A full-time police academy authorized by the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC), the Merrimack College Police Academy provides unique advantages over the traditional academy process. Traditionally, police recruits are first hired by a police department and then sponsored by that department throughout their academy training. The Merrimack Academy allows student officers to “self sponsor” through the support of the Merrimack College Police Department, receiving their academy certification prior to being employed by a municipality. When Merrimack College Police Academy graduates enter the job market, they will be state- certified, able to work immediately, and hold a Master’s degree, making them profoundly desirable candidates and more highly educated officers.
Career Opportunities
Upon graduating from the police academy, students will be a Massachusetts certified police officer ready to join the police force. Certification applies to all Massachusetts Municipal, UMass, and Environmental police agencies. The combination of a police academy certification with a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice will expand your future career options, including positions such as:

• Forensic Investigator
• Law Enforcement Supervision
• Sheriff
• Special Agent at a federal agency:
• FBI, DEA, ATF, ICE, Secret Service, U.S. Marshal
