Summer Academy
OPEN TO GIRLS ENTERING GRADE 8 FOUR WEEKS: June 17–July 12 (No class July 4) • 9:00 AM–2:00 PM TUITION: $1,425 This girls-only program is designed as an exciting academic enrichment and leadership experience for students entering grade eight. The Summer Academy helps students begin the transition from their elementary school environment to a single sex, college preparatory high school. The program is designed with classes each day that focus on empowering young women to build relationships in their communities while building their academic and social skills. Daily classes include a Skills for Success class, which covers topics such as organizational skills, time management, goal setting, public speaking, and test-taking strategies. Math and ELA classes provide an overview of the math and verbal skills needed for the High School Placement Test (preparation book is included in the price of the class). There is also a daily physical education class which includes athletics, dance, yoga, and more. There is no shortage of fun at Summer Academy – MMA style! Revolving around a special theme for the program, students participate in events including field day, pizza and ice cream parties, crazy hair and sock day, and a talent show, just to name a few! Students will leave Summer Academy prepared to conquer 8th grade

Rising 6th-7th Graders Junior Summer Academy
OPEN TO GIRLS ENTERING GRADES 6 & 7 TWO WEEKS: July 15–July 26 • 9:00 AM–1:00 PM TUITION: $600 This introductory program teaches young women entering grades sixth through seven the fundamentals of the sisterhood of Mercy, while engaging in cooperative learning and leadership activities. Classes include leadership, public speaking, service and a book discussion. Students will also meet MMA sports coaches and learn the fundamentals of each sport in daily mini camps. Our goal is for students to leave Junior Summer Academy with self-confidence in and outside of the classroom, and an understanding of self in order to best serve yourself, family and community.

Rising 9th Graders Accelerated Algebra Prep
OPEN TO GIRLS AND BOYS ENTERING GRADE 9 TWO WEEKS: July 8–July 19 • 1:00–3:00 PM TUITION: $300 This course is designed for incoming 9th graders who have had a full year of Algebra 1 but may need further review or reinforcement of the more difficult concepts that are taught at the conclusion of the course. Polynomials, factoring, quadratics, radicals, and rational expressions will be the topics of concentration. This course is intended for strong math students who are scheduled for Honors Algebra or Geometry in the fall and who can move at a vigorous pace.

MMA Ignite!
OPEN TO GIRLS ENTERING GRADE 9 ONE WEEK: June 17–June 21 • 9:00 AM–12:00 PM TUITION: $225 Jumpstart your MMA journey with MMA Ignite! Empowerment, Leadership, and Community is the theme of this one week experience for incoming 9th grade students. Working with our MMA staff, students will refine their academic “toolbox”, understanding the strategies and skills that will allow them to thrive in high school. Leadership training empowers students to make the most of their first year as they explore a broad range of co-curriculars, from student government to theater, the arts, service, and our many clubs. This immersion also allows students to forge new friendships that often last a lifetime.
TUITION: $465 This course offers a review of pre-algebra concepts and skills, and the initial concepts taught in Algebra 1. It is suggested for students wanting a mastery of basic math skills in order to be successful in Algebra 1. Choose one session.

Intro to High School Writing

OPEN TO GIRLS AND BOYS ENTERING GRADE 9 TWO WEEKS: July 8–July 19 • 1:00–3:00 PM TUITION: $300 The two-week Introduction to High School Writing course will prepare students for the academic writing that will be required in multiple subject areas. Faculty will review and reinforce foundational grammar concepts, introduce models of effective paragraph structure, and coach student writers through a variety of short writing tasks similar to the types of assignments they will be expected to complete during the school year. Teacher feedback will help students identify their writing strengths and target areas for improvement.
Algebra 2 Readiness
TWO WEEKS: June 17–June 28 • 9:00 AM–12:00 PM TUITION: $465 This prep course reviews key concepts from Algebra 1 needed to be successful in Algebra 2. Topics include solving equations, linear functions and graphs, systems of linear equations, and quadratrics. Students who are currently taking Geometry and those who wish to strengthen foundational algebra skills are encouraged to enroll.
The Art of World Languages: Experiential Learning in Philadelphia’s Art Museums OPEN TO GIRLS ENTERING 10-12
ONE WEEK AND A HALF: June 24–July 3 • 12:00–3:00PM TUITION $460 Calling all language, arts and culture aficionados! Language plays a crucial role in how we understand artistic expression. This course will focus on where world language, culture and art meet through the study of art from around the world. Students will learn the process for analyzing and interpreting art through the lens of world languages and will contextualize artists, works, and movements through interactive class activities. Students will then apply these skills in person with trips to various museums in the Philadelphia area. No art OR language experience is necessary to experience the beauty of Philadelphia’s art scene and learn how world languages and art interact!

Chemistry [One credit] OPEN TO GIRLS AND BOYS ENTERING GRADES 10-12 FOUR WEEKS: June 17–July 12 (No class July 4) 8:00 AM–1:00 PM This class is hybrid with both in-person and virtual learning. The schedule will be given closer to the start date.
TUITION: $1,050 In this course, emphasis is placed on quantitative applications of concepts in both lecture and lab work. Topics include atomic structure, quantum mechanics, chemical bonding, equation writing, kinetics, and equilibrium. A research project is required for this class.
Effective Writing (One-half credit) OPEN TO GIRLS AND BOYS ENTERING GRADE 10 FIVE WEEKS: June 18–July 18 (No class July 4) • 8:30 AM–12:00 PM TUITION: $580 This course will emphasize descriptive, expository, and persuasive writing; the mechanics of writing, organizing, and revising written material; building a reader’s and writer’s vocabulary; composing a fiveparagraph essay; and completing a research paper. A workbook is included in the price of this class.
Fiction and Poetry Writing encourages student writers to develop an individual voice and cultivate their creative writing skills. Students will use handouts, assigned readings and class notes to analyze various styles in the genres of poetry and short fiction and will incorporate techniques they have learned in their own work. Class discussion and peer review will be crucial components of this course, and as this course blends traditional and online classes, some feedback will be given digitally. Students should expect assignments which will challenge them to experiment with different types of creative writing and will be expected to sustain a collaborative learning environment. Students should approach the class with an open mind, aiming to increase their own comfort with the genres we attempt and familiarity with different aspects of the writing process (e.g., brainstorming, outlining, providing constructive feedback). No previous creative writing experience is required.
Forensic Science (One-half credit)
OPEN TO GIRLS AND BOYS ENTERING GRADES 11-12 THREE WEEKS: June 10–June 28 • 8:30 AM–12:30 PM TUITION: $660 This course will provide students with a survey of various forensic science topics. Students will learn the fundamentals of forensic science as well as the ethical concerns regarding the scientific reporting in the criminal justice system. Through various laboratory procedures, mock crime scenes, and lectures, students will learn the basics of crime scene investigation, forensic biology, and forensic chemistry. This course will utilize project-based learning and will conclude with a final project presentation that encompasses learned crime scene analysis skills as well as evidence evaluation and analysis. This course is available to juniors and seniors who have successfully completed Biology and Chemistry.
Geometry (Honors) (One credit)
OPEN TO GIRLS AND BOYS ENTERING GRADES 10-11 FIVE WEEKS: June 17–July 19 (No class July 4) • 9:00 AM–1:00 PM TUITION: $1,050 This accelerated course will present the concepts of Euclidean geometry and the relationship between geometry and algebra with an emphasis on analysis, logical reasoning, and the observation of patterns. Topics will include polygons, parallel and perpendicular lines, congruence and similarity of triangles, quadrilaterals, right triangle trigonometry, transformations, circles, perimeter and area of two-dimensional figures, and the volume of solid is used to further enhance the study of geometric concepts. Merion Mercy students’ prerequisite for Honors Geometry: • B+ or above in Honors Algebra 1

Foundations of Dance
OPEN TO GIRLS AND BOYS ENTERING GRADES 6-10 July 29–August 1 • 9:00–11:30 AM TUITION: $105 Come explore the foundations of dance at MMA. This classical ballet centered program will include floor work, barre, stretching and moving across the floor. The instructor will teach the importance of movement for its physical fitness, expressive and therapeutic benefits. Whether you are new to dance or are a seasoned dancer, we invite you to come and expand your dance knowledge with us.

Build a foundation of creative and technical skills, and expand your perspective on artmaking! Experiment with different mediums for drawing, painting, and design. Build self-confidence within a dynamic modern studio environment. This class is led by experienced, enthusiastic art educators. No art experience is necessary.

Adventures in Science is designed to teach science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to students of all ages in a fun and engaging way. Students will learn how to extract DNA, engineer structures as a team, create slime and even create their own experiments. This camp has something for everyone!
Painting the Photograph is a 5-day intensive, summer enrichment course that aims to foster the joy of painting through simplified techniques in representation. Students will use images from their personal or family archives. They will combine various techniques in “seeing,” mark-making and expressing, to create artwork they can be proud of.

This hands-on class teaches the basics of making and designing projects with a Cricut™ cutting machine. We will make various projects, including t-shirts, cards, vinyl lettering, and stickers. Learn to manage the Design Space software to create beautiful masterpieces. No Cricut™ experience is necessary. You can bring your own Cricut™ if you have one or use the ones provided. Leave each day with your completed project.
Discover the world of STEM at MMA. This program will include hands on STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math) projects to enjoy throughout the week. Want to make a volcano? Solve a crime scene and figure out “who done it?” Make parachute egg drops? We’ll do that and more! Have fun while learning to problem solve and how to be a team player.

Daily games and a skills competition on the last day will round out the week. Join us in our air-conditioned gym for a week of learning and fun.
Introduction to Field Hockey OPEN TO GIRLS ENTERING GRADES 4-6 ONE WEEK: June 24–27 • 9:00–11:30 AM TUITION: $170 Field hockey is becoming increasingly more popular in the early grades. This clinic focuses on the basic fundamentals of the game using fun games and drills in order to help you understand the rules and become a more experienced player. Participants need not have previous experience with the game. Each player should bring her own stick, mouth guard, shin guards, a water bottle, cleats, and sneakers.

OPEN TO GIRLS ENTERING GRADES 6–9 ONE WEEK: July 15–18 • 4:00–6:30 PM TUITION: $170 Join Merion Mercy’s coach for this soccer clinic, which will focus on the fundamentals of the game such as basic one vs. one skills, small-sided possession skills, attacking and defensive concepts, and rules of the game. Students may enroll regardless of experience. Incoming 9th graders will benefit from this camp before preseason tryouts in August. Each player should bring shin guards, a water bottle, cleats, and sneakers.

OPEN TO GIRLS ENTERING GRADES 6-9 ONE WEEK: June 24–27 • 5:00–7:30 PM TUITION: $170 Merion Mercy’s softball coaching staff will run campers through the fundamentals of the game. The camp will cover offensive and defensive skills, along with live play. Sessions will be a balance of instruction, skill work and drills. Students may enroll regardless of experience. Incoming 9th graders will benefit from this camp. Players should supply their own glove, cleats, bat, batting gloves, helmet, and wear softball attire (softball pants recommended). Catchers should bring their own equipment (if they have it). All players should bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a water bottle.

Goalies - goalie stick, helmet, chest protector, shin guards, gloves, thigh pads, mouthguard, cleats, water bottle.
