Just a reminder: The El Paso County Health Department has provided additional guidance to the Rec Center regarding the Colorado Mask Mandate. Effective immediately, masks will be required inside the recreation center, even while exercising. Masks may be removed while swimming in the indoor pool, but must be worn as soon as you exit the pool. Children aged 10 years and younger are exempt from this order.

Raspberry Bars

It’s that time of year for the District to consider budgets and fees for 2021.

The District Board of Directors must balance the desires of residents who want limited or no fee increases against the requests of other residents who want additional services and improvements to public landscaping and Raspberry Bars facilities. Meanwhile, the District has to deal with increases in the state minimum wage, electricity and natural gas charges, regulatory requirements, and other normal costs.

INGREDIENTS

Opportunities for the public to watch the process and provide input will occur at several Board of Directors meetings this fall. First, in early October, the Board will receive the initial Draft 2021 Budgets. They typically make modifications before the second Draft 2021 Budget is presented in detail to the Board at their regular business meeting on Wednesday, November 4, at 10:00 a.m. An informal public Budget Workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, 7:00-9:00 p.m. This evening workshop is intended to give residents the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation with the Board and staff. Finally, the Board will conduct a formal public hearing during the Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, December 2 during their regular business meeting at 10:00 a.m. All meetings are held at the Meridian Ranch Recreation Center on Londonderry Drive at Angeles Rd. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, board meetings have been conducted by conference call. Watch the District’s website during these times for proposed 2021 budgets, proposed fee increases for 2021, and for scheduling updates including meeting locations, dates, and times.

INSTRUCTIONS Preheat oven to 350°. Grease 9x13 pan. In a large bowl add flour, sugar, eggs and butter, mix together. Press 2/3 of mixture into pan. Spread jam over the top. Sprinkle remaining dough on top. Bake 40-50 minutes.

The suckers on the bottom of the tree are its last life trying to survive.

When trees do this, all the energy is focused on the growth of the suckers, which diverts energy from the primary canopy. When the primary canopy is compromised, the tree should be removed, especially when this occurs in neighborhoods.

If we remove all the deadwood down to these secondary shoots (suckers), we are encouraging secondary growth. These suckers typically have a weak attachment to

the main stem and have very aggressive growth. As this secondary growth matures it can become a hazard because of the weak attachment. On top of weak attachment, they will also need corrective pruning for the years to come. It would be more effective at this point to remove and replace them. This information was provided to us by Tall Timbers, Arborist in Colorado Springs.
